REASON FOR THIS SUPPLEMENT August 15, 2018 Repair instructins, warranty claiming infrmatin, and parts rdering infrmatin have been added fr Edge and Fusin and Milan. Parts t repair these vehicles are anticipated t be available during the mnth f September. REASON FOR THIS SAFETY RECALL NHTSA and Takata have determined that the prpellant in certain Takata airbag inflatrs can experience an alteratin ver time with expsure t certain climate cnditins. A cmbinatin f time, high temperature fluctuatins, and humidity cntribute t the degradatin f the prpellant in the inflatrs. This degradatin can cause the prpellant t burn t quickly, creating high pressure inside the inflatr, and in extreme cases causing the inflatr t rupture in the event f a crash necessitating airbag deplyment. A ruptured inflatr can send inflatr parts tward vehicle ccupants resulting in serius injury r death. The dealer bulletin will als be updated as repair-infrmatin becmes available fr ther affected vehicles. NOTE: Parts are nt interchangeable between different vehicle mdels s a repair shuld nt be attempted n vehicles that repairs are nt currently published fr. Due t wner relcatins and vehicle resale activity, dealers in Znes B and C may have sme vehicles assigned t their FSA VIN list. All vehicles affected by this safety recall must be repaired, regardless f the vehicle s current lcatin. Always use OASIS t identify affected vehicles. The Takata airbag recall znes have been defined by the NHTSA, based n temperature and humidity. FIGURE 1 SERVICE ACTION Dealers are t replace the passenger airbag inflatr r passenger airbag mdule as directed in the Technical Infrmatin attachments. This service must be perfrmed n all affected vehicles at n charge t the vehicle wner. Fr Mustang and Frd GT vehicles, dealers shuld check OASIS t determine if safety recall 15S21 is pen fr the driver side airbag. If safety recall 15S21 is pen, then it shuld be cmpleted in additin t safety recall 16S26. Parts are readily available t cmplete safety recall 15S21. NOTE: This is a final / permanent repair. DEALER-OPERATED RENTAL VEHICLES The Fixing America s Surface Transprtatin (FAST) Act law effective June 2016 prhibits a rental cmpany frm selling, renting r leasing vehicles subject t a safety r cmpliance recall. RENTAL VEHICLES Fr MKX, MKZ, and Fusin and Milan vehicles, if the custmer requires the use f their vehicle s passenger seat and requests a rental vehicle while waiting fr parts t becme available, refer t the Takata Airbag Recall Rental Vehicle Reimbursement Prcess fr rental reimbursement guidelines and the prcess fr requesting rental vehicle reimbursement. Fr Ranger, Mustang, Frd GT, and MKZ/Zephyr, parts are readily available t cmplete the recall n these vehicles. With prper dealer parts rdering and service appintment scheduling, rental vehicles shuld nt be required. Fr Edge and Fusin and Milan vehicles, parts will be available sn. Dealers shuld cntact vehicle wners that are currently in rental vehicles t schedule a repair as sn as parts are available t repair their vehicle. FORD GT SPECIAL HANDLING Dealers are authrized t claim up t a maximum cmbined value f $200 t prvide unique services t Frd GT wners under this recall. Examples f ptential services include: Technician travel t vehicle lcatin fr remte repair Vehicle transprtatin (twing/flatbed) t dealership Vehicle re-delivery t the wners lcatin after repairs have been cmpleted Frd and Lincln Dealerships are authrized t claim the special handling allwance. In sme cases, $200 may nt be sufficient t tw the vehicle t the dealership and redeliver t the custmer. Dealers are encuraged t cnsider remte repairs at the vehicles lcatin in these cases. Fr related damage and access time requirements, refer t the Warranty and Plicy Manual Sectin 6 Frd/Lincln Prgram Plicies Field Service Actins (FSA) Related Damage. Submit an Apprval Request t the SSSC Web Cntact Site prir t cmpleting the repair. CLAIMS PREPARATION AND SUBMISSION Enter claims using Dealer Management System (DMS) r One Warranty Slutin (OWS) nline. When entering claims, select claim type 31: Field Service Actin. The FSA number (16S26) is the sub cde. Fr additinal claims preparatin and submissin infrmatin, refer t the Recall and Custmer Satisfactin Prgram (CSP) Repairs in the OWS User Guide. The Technical Infrmatin in this bulletin advises technicians t dcument the serial number frm the new airbag inflatr n the repair rder. The passenger airbag inflatr serial number is 11 characters fr Ranger, Mustang, and GT and 13 characters fr Edge, MKZ/Zephyr, Fusin and Milan. Enter the serial number f the new airbag inflatr r mdule in the claim as fllws: Fr claims submitted using DMS r OWS n-line, enter the serial numbers in the Test Results Sectin. Select DTC REQUIRED MEASUREMENT OR RESULTS frm the drp dwn list. Enter the serial number in the CODE field. The serial number must entered withut spaces r dashes. Fr Frd GT Special Handling claim up t a maximum f $200. All Special Handling must be n the same repair line the FSA is claimed. Claim Special Handling under Misc. Expense Cde OTHER. Rental Vehicle Reimbursement: Claim shuld be submitted under lng-term rental prgram 18A01. A new apprval cde is required frm the SSSC every 30 days. Dealers are eligible t claim a $25 administrative fee fr any lng-term rental claims that are submitted after June 13, This includes lng-term rental claims that were riginally apprved by the SSSC after May 12, 2018 but prcessed fr warranty payment after June 13, Claim the rental reimbursement administrative fee f $25 per claim n a separate RO line under Misc. Expense cde FSAEXP. Custmers that were placed int a lng-term rental vehicle prir t June 13, 2018 are eligible fr the increased dllar per day rental reimbursement rates back t the date the mst recent lngterm rental apprval cde was apprved frm the SSSC. T request the increased rates n a pre-existing apprval cde, update the existing apprved cntact and attach the rental invice shwing the dllar per day amunts. If the custmer has paid fr a rental vehicle fr the purpse f this recall, they are eligible fr reimbursement within the guidelines utlined in the Takata Airbag Recall Rental Vehicle Reimbursement Prcess. Dealers shuld fllw the same prcess fr claiming rental vehicle reimbursement and then refund the custmer. Therefre, all passenger airbag inflatrs under this safety recall have been assigned a $100 cre charge t ensure they will be prperly returned. The Reginal Cre Recver Center (RCRC), including dealers in Alaska and Hawaii, will pick up these airbag inflatrs alng with all ther cre returns during yur nrmal cre retrieval visit. Fr additinal infrmatin, refer t the Reginal Cre Recvery Center Airbag Inflatr Return Prcess. IMPORTANT: Old part number 5G7Z-63044A74-A fr Frd GT vehicles used under 14S28 must n lnger be installed in vehicles, and can be returned via the FSA parts return prcess.
