2 Moulded Case Circuit Breaker Chassis systems XB 800 2U chassis MCCB chassis Overview MCCBs are often required to be mounted singly, in the case of a motor control centre, or in groups, as part of a larger power distribution system. To help assist with grouped MCCB power distribution requirements, NHP manufacture standardised busbar systems, simply called chassis. NHP stock a range of basic chassis which can be purchased off the shelf, while more complex, or higher current chassis, are produced on a custom basis to a suit a customer specification. Common features A new mounting channel common to all chassis to make installation quicker & easier All chassis suitable for use up to 690 V AC TemWay XA, XB, XC chassis 36 and 40 ka ratings on standard TemWay XA and XB chassis 50 and 65 ka ratings on TemWay XC chassis XC 000 A chassis are stocked with 400 A and 250 A tee off combinations A range of TemWay 4 pole XA and XB chassis, suitable for earth leakage MCCBs Heavy current HC chassis HC heavy current chassis for MCCBs, A HC heavy current chassis, compact single sided version, or double sided box sizes more economical sizing to suit applications. Saves cost Common configurations of HC chassis now stocked - fully assembled for quick delivery Testing Both TemWay and HC Chassis have been unconditionally type tested (no MCCBs fitted) in Australia, at the short time ratings shown in the table below. 34 TemBreak 2 MCCB Accessories Connection and mounting options and accessories Overview TemBreak 2 MCCB connection and mounting accessories facilitate easy installation in any arrangement. Breakers and accessories are easy to fit. They are designed to provide safe and secure termination and mounting points. The 25 A and 60/250 A frame models have a choice of 45 mm front cut-out patterns, making them compatible in appearance when used in DIN style panel or switchboard applications. 45 mm 45 mm DIN Cut-out pattern Connection and mounting options DIN rail adaptor 25 AF MCCB (T2 DA) Rear connect terminals (T2 RP) Extension busbars (T2 FB) Tunnel clamp terminals (T2 FW) Line and loadside plug-in MCCB (T2 PM) TemPlug (T2 UP) 6-34

43 Application data TemBreak and 2 MCCB clearance requirements at 440 V Clearance requirements for MCCBs (phase to phase and earth). When MCCBs are called upon to interrupt large short circuits, ionised gas and arcing material is expelled from the vents at the top of the MCCB. This ionised gas is highly conductive and is also at an elevated temperature when it exits the MCCB via the arc vents. Care must be taken therefore to avoid an arcing fault occurring due to the presence of the ionised gas. Therefore, incoming conductors must be insulated right up to the terminal opening of the MCCB. This also applies to the attached busbars supplied as a proprietory part with the MCCB. Proprietary type interpole barriers may be used to achieve creepage and clearance requirements. Conductors must not impede the flow of ionised gas. Insulating distance from Line-End for 380/45 V When earth metal is installed within proximity of the breakers, the correct insulating distance must be maintained, (refer to Table ). This distance is necessary to allow the exhausted arc gases to disperse. This could include the mounting plate or side panel within a switchboard. Table below, illustrates the minimum clearance that must be maintained A Distance from lower breaker to open charging part of terminal on upper breaker (front connection) or the distance from lower breaker to upper breaker end (rear connection and plug-in type) B Distance from breaker end to ceiling (earthed metal) B2 Distance from breaker end to insulator C Clearance between breakers D Distance from breaker side to side plate (earthed metal) Insulator Ceiling (earth metal) Side plate B B B B2 B2 B2 WARNING: EXPOSED CONDUCTORS INCLUDING TERMINALS AT ATTACHED BUSBARS MUST BE INSULATED TO AVOID POSSIBLE SHORT CIRCUITING OR EARTHING DUE TO FOREIGN MATTER COMING INTO CONTACT WITH THE CONDUCTORS. 46 Application data Clearance for mining MCCBs (000 V) and incoming connections The arc chamber in Terasaki TemBreak circuit breakers is located adjacent to the LINE side terminals. The chamber is vented through holes located just above each line terminal. The holes are covered by a flap which deflects when arc gases are being expelled. Even at low fault levels the arc gases that are released are very hot and reduce the dielectric strength of the air in the vicinity of the terminals. If care is not taken when installing the MCCB this gas can cause arcing faults on the incoming bars or cables. Significant voltage transients may also be produced as inductive circuits are switched and contribute to an arcing fault. These problems affect all circuit breaker installations to varying degrees. To ensure that problems are not created by the installation please observe the following recommendations. More detailed installation instructions can be obtained on request. Insulate conductors. No exposed conductors to be in circuit breaker zone (see note 4). Do not restrict this area Insulation Fit terminal cover or install interpole barriers (Interpole Barriers and terminal covers supplied with V breakers) (see note 6) Interpole barrier for V style breakers Fit terminal bolt insulation kit - V400 only. (Terminal bolt cap and cover - supplied with breaker) Two piece rear insulating screens (supplied with XV breaker) Insulate this area if using interpole barrier Metal cover ) Always observe LINE/LOAD markings. 2 ) Ensure insulation on incoming conductors is adequate. Do not use low grade heat shrink (some grades split at operating temperatures). 3 ) Minimum clearance to earth metal, above and below breaker - 20 mm (XV250NE - 50 mm). To sides of breaker - 40 mm. 4 ) Switchboard construction to be a minimum Form 2 to AS/NZS with IP 3X protection between busbar and circuit breaker zones. 5 ) Actual construction can vary to the above but in all cases it is the responsibility of the switchboard manufacturer to ensure compliance to the relevant standard i.e. AS/NZS ) TL00EM MCCBs must use a TL00EMTLC LINE side terminal cover. V400 can use either a terminal cover or interpole barriers. 6-48
