5 CONTROLS CONTROLS This chapter shows the bagger cart contro ocations and it tes you how the bagger contros work. It ony covers contros reating to the bagger cart. Have your Honda tractor owner s manua handy for reference whie reading this chapter. Rubber Strap This rubber strap hods the cover open or cosed. The strap connects to the frame washer to hod the cover cosed, or the grommet strap to hod it open. FRAME WASHER RUBBER STRAP GROMMET STRAP Dump Coth Use the dump coth to empty the cart without titing it. The dump coth ets you pu the cippings out easiy. DUMP CLOTH Latch Hande The atch hande is used to reease the cart bed from the frame, so the cart bed can be tited. Lift Hande Use the ift hande to tit the cart bed after the atch hande has been reeased. / LATCH HANDLE HANDLE BCIOOO BAGGER CART 3

6 BEFORE OPERATION For your safety, and to proong the service ife of your equipment, aways inspect the bagger cart before each use. Refer to the MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE on page 12. Perform the Before Operation checks isted in the tractor s manua. CHECK MOWING AREA For your safety and the safety of others, aways inspect the area before mowing. Objects Anything which can be picked up by the mower deck is a potentia hazard to you and others. Aways remove any arge debris from the mowing area. Remove motor vehices or other objects from the mowing area to prevent them from getting damaged. Peope and Pets Peope and animas near the mowing area can move into your path. Cear the area of pets, peope, and especiay chidren. Their safety is your responsibiity. PROTECTIVE CLOTHING Be sure to wear protective cothing such as ong pants and eye protection which can ower your risk of injury. Wear footwear that protects your feet. Wear ear protection to protect your hearing. Do not wear oose fitting cothing, jewery, scarves, ties, etc., which may get caught in moving parts. Tie up or restrain ong hair. Wear a dust mask when mowing in dusty conditions. INSPECT THE BAGGER CART Check the mounting bracket on the tractor, the cevis pins, spring cips and rubber straps and make sure they are a secure. Do not operate the bagger cart with any missing parts Check the atch hande and make sure it has propery ocked the cart bed to the frame. Be sure the cover is secured down and the upper chute is propery attached before mowing. 4 BCOOO BAGGER CART

7 IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION Before operating the awn tractor with the bagger cart instaed for the first time, pease review the safety information in the awn tractor owner s manua, and the previous chapter of this book, BEFORE OPERATION. For your safety, avoid starting or operating the tractor s engine in an encosed area such as a garage, Your tractor s engine exhaust contains poisonous carbon monoxide gas which can coect rapidy in an encosed area and cause iness or death. The foowing precautions are suggested to hep prevent accidents. Most accidents can be avoided by observing certain precautions. Read the foowing precautions before operating the bagger cart to hep prevent accidents. Equipment shoud be operated ony by those who are responsibe and instructed to do so. Operator Responsibiity Do not aow anyone to ride on the bagger cart. Aways move the PTO ever/knob,to OFF, shut the engine OFF, remove the ignition key, and wait for a moving parts to stop before eaving the operator s position, eaving the bagger cart unattended or inspecting the bagger cart. Be sure the area is cear of other peope before operation. Stop the machine if anyone enters the area. Do not operate the bagger cart with chidren, pets or others nearby. Watch out for traffic when operating near or crossing roadways. Sow down before turning and approach bind corners cautiousy. Aways observe the area ahead. Avoid obstaces and stay away from hoes, ditches, soft or steep embankments and other potentiay dangerous areas. Wet surfaces reduce traction and stabiity. Aways maintain proper traction. Stop the tractor s engine, then set the parking brake ON before connecting, disconnecting, or unoading the bagger cart. Chidren Accidents can occur if the operator is not aert to the presence of chidren. Chidren are often attracted to the machine and the tractor s activity. Never assume that chidren wi remain where you ast saw them. Keep chidren out of the work area and under the watchfu eye of another responsibe adut. Be aert and turn off the machine if chidren enter the area. Operation Read the tractor owner s manua carefuy. Be thoroughy famiiar with the contros and proper use of the tractor. Know how to stop the tractor and disengage the contros quicky. Refer to the tractor owner s manua for detaied instructions on starting the engine and parking. Aways remain in the operator s seat of the tractor when operating the awn tractor. If you strike a foreign object, move the PTO knob to OFF, shut the engine OFF, and remove the ignition key. Inspect for and repair any damage before operating the awn tractor and bagger cart again. BCOOO BAGGER CART 5

8 OPERATION CONNECTING THE BAGGER CART Park the tractor on a fat, eve surface. Set the parking brake and remove the ignition key to prevent accidenta starting. The foowing instructions are for the HA411 8 and HA4120 tractors ony. Refer to the hitch kit instaation instructions for other tractor modes. CLEVIS PI 1, Lift the bagger cart frame towards therear hitch. Insta the two cevis pins and spring cips as shown. SPRING CLIP (2) \ 2. HA4120 with the 48 Deck: Lift the midde chute and insta it on the ower chute on the side bower. Connect the rubber strap to the tension reease ever. 3. HA4118 with the 38 Deck: Lift the discharge guard, and insta the ower chute onto the rear edge of the mower deck first, then turn the chute toward the front. Insta the connector bracket and cip onto the mower deck. Side the midde chute onto the ower chute, then connect the S-hook on the rubber strap to the eyeet on the ower chute. 9 OPERATION STARTING AND STOPPING The bagger cart adds weight (especiay when fied) that can change the way the tractor handes. Operate the tractor at a sower speed when using the bagger cart. This wi make the tractor and bagger cart easier to operate and contro. Start in a ower gear (or speed) and pan stops further in advance when using the bagger cart. MOWING The bagger cart hods a arge amount of cippings that can change the way the tractor handes. The bagger cart works best when the tractor is driven at sower speed which wi maximize the finished appearance of your awn. Sopes Avoid operation on sopes, his, ditches or other uneven terrain. Do not operate the tractor and bagger cart on a sope greater than 15 degrees. If you must mow on sopes, do it first, when the bagger cart is empty and dump the cippings before the cart becomes haf-fu. Refer to the owner s manua for your tractor for more specific operationa techniques when you must operate on a soped surface. Operation in Reverse As a genera rue, do not operate the bagger cart in reverse. If it is absoutey necessary to back up: 1. Move the PTO cutch ever/knob to OFF. 2. Check the area on the ground directy behind the bagger cart. 3. Continue to observe area behind the bagger cart whie backing up. Tips Avoid using the bagger cart (or even mowing at a) when the grass is wet. Wet cippings can quicky cog the mower deck, and the ower, midde and upper chutes of the bagger cart. Watch the window on the midde chute. If cippings aren t fowing past the window, the chute or mower deck may be cogged. See the next section on how to cear a cogged chute. Make sure the mower deck bades are sharp. For sharpening guideines, your tractor. refer to the owner s manua for Aways keep the throtte in the FAST position when mowing. This cuts the grass better, and heps bow the cippings out of the mower deck. Cearing a Cog At times, it is possibe the chute may become cogged. If this happens, stop the awn tractor, move the PTO knob/ever to OFF, set the parking brake ON, and remove the ignition key before attempting to cear a cog. 1. Disconnect the upper or ower rubber strap (as needed) from the midde chute. Use a stick (never your hands) to cear the cogged grass out of the chute(s). 2. Be sure to reattach a straps and chute parts before operating the tractor or bagger cart. I BCIOOO BAGGER CART 7

10 OPERATION Emptying the Bagger Cart Use the inspection window in the top cover to check the cipping eve. When you see grass coecting at the window eve, the cart must be emptied. Make sure the PTO cutch ever/knob is OFF. Back the tractor up to the ocation where you want to empty the cippings. Stop the tractor, set the parking brake ON, and remove the ignition key. Unhook the rubber strap from the cover on the rear of the bagger cart. Pu the cover over the top of the frame, and hook the rubber strap to the grommet strap near the inspection window. This wi hod the cover in pace and out of your way when emptying the bagger cart. Empty the cippings by using the dump coth (if instaed) or by tipping the cart bed: USING THE DUMP CLOTH: 1. Unhook the four pastic cips from the frame. 2. Pu the dump coth away from the bagger cart using the fabric handes. 3. Hook the pastic cips back to the frame. HANDLE (2) 8 BCIOOO BAGGER CART

11 OPERATION TIPPING THE CART BED: RELEASE LOCK 1. Disconnect the midde chute (with the inspection window) from the ower chute. LATCH HANDLE 2. Move the atch hande down to unock the bagger cart bed. Grasp one of the ift handes, then tip the cart bed to dump the cippings. LIFT HANDLE USE AS A UTILITY CART The bagger cart can aso serve as a ight-duty utiity cart for your tractor. For many appications, a you need do is ro up the cover and fasten it to the grommet strap (page 8). If the cover and /or dump coth are in the way, refer to the Assemby section (page 17) and remove the cover and dump coth as needed. Using the Utiity Cart In genera, foow the same operationa guideines for utiity cart use as you woud for the bagger cart. Make sure the oad is secure and does not shift during use. Pay attention to the foowing weight and height imits, and never overoad the utiity cart. MAXIMUM LOAD WEIGHT 400 Ibs. (181 kg) MAXIMUM LOAD HEIGHT 48 inches (1.2 m) BCOOO BAGGER CART 9

12 MAINTENANCE THE IMPORTANCE OF MAINTENANCE Good maintenance is essentia for safe, economica, and troube-free operation. Improper maintenance, or faiure to correct a probem before operation, can cause a mafunction in which you can be seriousy hurt or kied. Aways foow the inspection and maintenance recommendations and schedues in this operator s manua and the owner s manua incuded with the tractor. To hep you propery care for your bagger cart, the foowing pages incude a maintenance schedue, routine inspection procedures, and simpe maintenance procedures using basic hand toos. Other service tasks that are more difficut, or require specia toos, are best handed by professionas and are normay performed by a Honda technician or other quaified mechanic. 13 MAINTENANCE MAINTENANCE SAFETY Some of the most important safety precautions foow. However, we cannot warn you of every conceivabe. hazard that can arise in performing maintenance. Ony you can decide whether or not you shoud perform a given task. Safety Precautions precautions can cause you to be seriousy hurt or kied Aways foow the procedures and precautions in this operator s manua and the owner s manua incuded with the tractor. Make sure the engine is off, ignition key is removed, PTO contro ever/knob is in the OFF position and a moving parts have stopped before you begin any maintenance or repairs. This wi eiminate severa potentia hazards: - Carbon monoxide poisoning from engine exhaust. Be sure there is adequate ventiation whenever you operate the engine. - Burns from hot parts. Let the engine and exhaust system coo before touching. - Injury from moving parts. Do not run the engine uness the instruction tes you to do so. Even then, keep your hands, fingers, and cothing away. Do not run the engine when any protective guard or shied is removed. Read the instructions before you begin, and make sure you have the toos and skis required. To reduce the possibiity of fire or exposion, be carefu when working around gasoine. Use ony a nonfammabe sovent, not gasoine, to cean parts. Keep cigarettes, sparks, and fames away from a fue-reated parts. Remember that an authorized Honda servicing deaer knows your bagger cart best and is fuy equipped to maintain and repair it. To ensure the best quaity and reiabiity, use ony new, genuine Honda parts or their equivaents and repacement. for repair Do not ateror modify the bagger cart. 14 MAINTENANCE MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE Use the foowing maintenance schedue and the maintenance schedue shown in the tractor owner s manua. If the cover is torn, worn or otherwise damaged, repace it before using the bagger cart. Make sure the cover is not cogged with dirt or debris. The cover must be abe to vent air for the best possibe performance. Dirt and debris can aso cause mod and rot which wi cause premature wear of the cover fabric. Cean the cover with a standard garden hose. Pu out the dump coth, and wash it at the same time. Aow the cover and dump coth to fuy dry before use. A wet cover or dump coth wi cog quicky and promote mod and rot. The cover is subject to deterioration and wear under norma use and it wi eventuay need to be repaced. Repace the cover with a genuine Honda bagger cart cover or equivaent. The cover must meet ANSI Standard Tires Check the tire air pressure before each use. TIRE AIR PRESSURE: 30 psi (207 kpa). Whees Lubricate the whees every 25 hours of use. There are grease fittings on each axe and swive. One or two pumps of grease is usuay sufficient. 19 ASSEMBLY ASSEMBLY 1. Insta the whee assembies on the frame, using eight 3/8 x -inch hex bots, eight 318 inch ock washers, and eight 3/8-inch ock nuts. Take care not to et the washers pinch the pivot sea on the whee assemby. Torque the ock nuts to 15 ft-b (3.5 kg-m, 34 Nom). +- 3/B HEX NUT (8) 3/8 LOCK WASHER (8) 2. Appy grease to the grease fittings on the axes and swives. GREASE: NLGI #2 muti-purpose grease. 3. Infate the tires TIRE PRESSURE: 30 psi (207 kpa) 3/8 x 1 HEX BOLT (8) 4. Insta the U-bracket on the cart bed, using three 5/ 6 x 3/4-inch pan-head screws, three 5/ 6-inch fat washers, three 5/ 6 ock washers, and three 5/ 16 sef-ocking nuts. Torque the ock nuts to 14 ft-b (1.9 kg-m, 19 Nom). LOCK WASHER (3) \ 5/16 FLAT WASHER (3) 5116 x 314 PAN HEAD SCREW (3) 5. Turn the cart bed upside down. Insta the frame on the U-bracket, using two /2 x 1-/4-inch hex bots and two /2-inch ock nuts. Torque the ock nuts to 60 ft-b (8.3 kg-m, 81 Nom). HEX BOLT (2) Overtightening the /2-inch ock nuts wi bend the frame brackets. LOCKING NUT BCOOQ BAGGER CART 17

20 ASSEMBLY 6. Turn the cart bed right side up. Insta the atch hande, using a 5/16 x 1-/4-inch hex bot, two 5/ 6 inch friction washers, two 5/ 6 inch fat washers, and a 5/ 6 inch sef-ocking nut (nyon insert) x -114 HEX BOLT When instaing the hardware, position the friction washers with the cupped side toward the atch hande. Torque the sef-ocking nut enough so the atch hande wi turn easiy, but not.move when reeased. 5/ 6 FLAT WASI N 5118 FLAT WASHER - LATCH HANDLE 5/16 FRICTION WASHER \ 5116 SELF-LOCKING NUT 7. Insta the ift handes using four /4 x /2-inch pan-head screws, four 1/4&ch ock washers, and four /4 inch nuts. Torque the ock nuts to 7 ft-b (1.0 kg-m, 10 Nom). 114 x /2 PAN LIFT HANDLE (2 CK WASHER (4) \ 114 HEX NUT (4) 8. Insta the support tube, using four 5/ 6 x 1 -/2-inch hex bots, four 5/ 6-inch fat washers, two 5/ 6-inch pastic spacers, and four 5/ 6-inch ock nuts. Be sure the pastic spacers are instaed on the top bots ony. Torque the ock nuts to 14 ft-b (1.9 kg-m, 19 Nom). PLASTIC $PACER (2) 5/ 6 FLAT w WASHER (4) 5116; -112 HEX BOLT (4) 18 BCOOO BAGGER CART

21 ASSEMBLY 9. Thread the three rods through the cover as WASHER ON shown. It is easiest to insta the frame rod FRAME ROD first. When you do, make sure it is with the weded washer facing as shown. THIS SIDE OF SUPPORT ROD 10. Hook the ends of the frame rod through the eyes in the ends of the support rod. 11. Insert the ends of the cover s frame rod through the hoes in the carts support tube. 22 ASSEMBLY 12. Secure each end of the frame rod with a 3/8-inch fat washer and circe cip. 13. Attach the cover to the top of the support tube, using the grommet strap that is ocated next to the pastic window. Pu the strap over the top of the support tube, around and under the support tube, then through the sot. in the front of the cover. 14. Attach the cover to the front corners of the cart by puing the eastic oops through the eyes of the straight rod and hooking the oops over the cart bots and onto the pastic spacers. 23 ASSEMBLY 15. At this point, you need to insta the upper fex tube suppied with the hitch kit for your tractor mode. Push the fex tube through the gathered opening in the cover. There shoud be about ribs in the fex tube pushed through the opening. Pay attention to the inspection window on the center section of the tube, so it remains facing the tractor operator. 16. Raise the cover and tube up toward the frame. Insta the rubber strap and S-hook as shown. the S-hook bends the fex tube sighty toward the cart s center, ensuring the cippings are eveny distributed. 9 HOOK I BCOOO BAGGER CART 21

24 ASSEMBLY 17. Position the dump coth with the fex tube cut-out at the right side of the cart. Thread the dump coth rod through the cart, dump coth seeve and out the other side of the cart as shown. Secure each end of the rod by instaing a circe cip outside of the cart bed. 18. Spread out the dump coth in the cart bed, and hook the four pastic cips onto the support tube. 25 ASSEMBLY 19. Insta the rubber strap on the washer at the center of the cover frame rod. The open end of the hook must face the cart bed. Secure the upper hook to the frame rod by cosing the hook oop with piers. To hod the cover cosed, hook the ower end to the cart bed as shown. 20. Insta the HTA/Honda Power Equipment deca on the eft side of the cart. 26 TRANSPORTING / STORAGE TRANSPORTING Shoud you need to transport the bagger cart, remove the cover assemby if the cart is put on an open traier or truck bed. The cover may bow off the cart or be damaged at highway speeds. Use at east four tie-down straps to secure the cart to the transport vehice. Do not connect straps to the cart bed, but use the frame, whees and hitch instead. STORAGE Thoroughy cean and dry the entire bagger cart before storage. Dirt, cippings and other debris can trap moisture and promote rusting. Sand away any rust spots and appy some touch-up paint to prevent additiona rusting. Verify the tires are fuy infated, and the whees and swives have been ubricated. Pay cose attention to the cover and dump coth. Be sure they are competey cean and dry, or they may decay and midew when stored. Avoid storing the cover or dump coth in direct sunight, which can cause the fabric to wear prematurey. Store the bagger cart in a dry ocation. Do not cover the bagger cart with a pastic sheet or other materia than can trap moisture. This wi promote rust. 24 BCIOOO BAGGER CART
