3 SUMMARY OF OIL AND GAS INDUSTRY ACTIVITIES FOR THE MONTH OF JANUARY, EXPLORATORY/DRILLING ACTIVITIES: In January, 2007, a total number of twenty five (25) wells were explored and drilled by eight (8) Oil Producing Companies namely: Shell, Mobil, Chevron, NAOC, Elf, Pan Ocean, Addax and NPDC. Out of these, fourteen (14) were Development wells, four (4) were Appraisal wells, six (6) Exploratory wells and one (1) Work-over well. Of the development wells, two (2) were completed, eleven (11) were in drilling progress and one (1) was suspended. Of the four appraisal wells, two (2) were in drilling progress and two (2) were abandoned. Four of the six exploratory wells were in drilling progress, one (1) was completed and the remaining one (1) was suspended. The only work over well during the month was in drilling progress. (See table1). 2.0 CRUDE OIL AND CONDENSATE 2.1 Production: Total Crude Oil and Condensate produced in January 2007 was 71,957,080 barrels, averaging million barrels per day (mbd). This showed a decrease of 1,203,338 barrels or 1.64% over December, 2006 production figure of 73,160,418 barrels. Bonny Light had the highest production figure of 13,125,505 barrels averaging 423,403 barrels per day (b/d). Qua-Iboe Light followed with 12, barrels averaging 409,272 b/d. Production of Escravos Light, ERHA and Bonga was 9,101,517 barrels (293,597 b/d); 6,940,706 barrels (223,894 b/d) and 6,193,250 barrels (199,782 b/d) respectively. The total Alternative Funding crude oil production during the month was 8,665,197 barrels or12.04 % of the total production. The table below shows production of crude oil by stream with corresponding average daily production and percentages in descending order. 4 2.2 Lifting (Domestic and Export): In January 2007, a total of 73,078,383 barrels of crude oil and condensates were lifted for both export and domestic purposes by NNPC and Oil Producing Companies. The Oil Producing Companies lifted 45,131,933 barrels or 61.76%, while NNPC lifted 27,946,450 barrels or 38.24%. Out of the 45,131,933 barrels lifted for export by the Oil Producing Companies; JVC exported 29,283,060 barrels, PSC/SC companies exported 13,529,478 barrels, while Independent and Sole Risk Company exported 2,319,395 barrels. NNPC lifting was made up of 17,123,651 barrels, exported on behalf of Federal Government for Federation Account and 10,822,799 barrels for domestic use distributed as follows: 2,685,066 barrels supplied to the local refineries; and 8,137,733 barrels exported on behalf of PPMC. 2.3 Alternative Funding Joint Venture Crude Oil Lifting: In January 2007, 8,455,390 barrels of AF crude oil were lifted by both NNPC and three (3) Joint Venture Companies, namely: Mobil, Elf & Chevron. Of this, NNPC lifted 1,380,554 barrels (34.86%), while the three (3) companies lifted 7,074,836 barrels (65.14%). The total lifting of 7,074,839 barrels was part of total JVC export of 29,283,060 barrels, while the 1,380,554 barrels lifted by NNPC, was part of 17,122,651 barrels lifted for export into Federation Accounts. The balance of 7,625,564 barrels or 10.81% was exported to some countries in South America (See Table 5 and Figure 2), 2.5 Federation Account Crude Oil Export Receipts: A total of 17,123,651 barrels of Crude Oil and Oso Condensates was exported with a value of US$934,577, by NNPC for Federation Account during the month under review. The export sales indicate an average price of US$ per barrel (See Table 6a and Figure 3a). 4

5 3.0 NATURAL GAS 3.1 Natural Gas Production and Utilization: In January, 2007, nine (9) Oil Producing Companies produced billion Standard Cubic Feet (Bscf) of natural gas. Compared with the December, 2006, figure of Billion Standard Cubic Feet (Bscf), there was a decrease of 7.51Bscf or 3.72%. Out of the quantity produced, Bscf or % was flared, while Bscf or 64.70% was utilized. Of the total quantity utilized, Bscf was re-injected, Bscf was for NLNG as LNG feedstock and Bscf was sold to third parties. The Oil Producing Companies used Bscf as fuel gas and Bscf as gas lift to enhance condensate production. EPCL took Bscf and Bscf for LPG/NGL feedstock and fuel gas respectively. (See Table 7). 3.2 Federal Government Receipts from Gas Export: The sum of US$ million was earned from export sales of 69,647 metric tons of NGL/LPG by NNPC on behalf of the Federal Government. Similarly the sum of US$ million was earned from export sales of million BTU of LNG Feedstock in January The sale represents Federal Government Equity Shares in Mobil & Chevron for NGL/LPG and Shell, Elf and Agip Joint Ventureship for LNG. (See table 6b). 3.3 Nigeria Gas Company (NGC) Gas Sales and Transmission: A total of Billion Standard Cubic Feet (BSCF) of natural gas was sold to some companies locally by NGC in January 2007 for N 1, million. However, actual revenue received by NGC within the month was N 1, million which includes part payment of previous months outstanding debts. The Company also transmitted Billion Standard Cubic Feet of natural gas for N million. The revenue received during the month from gas transmission was N million (See Table 8a & 8b). 3.4 Joint Venture Domestic Gas Sales: Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) sold about 15, Billion Standard Cubic Feet (Bscf) of natural gas for N 346,072, on behalf of Joint Venture. (NNPC 55%, Shell 30%, Elf 10% and Agip 5%). (See Table 9a). 3.5 Joint Venture Export Gas Sales: Shell sold a total of Billion Standard Cubic Feet (Bscf) of natural gas as feedstock to NLNG at a total sum of US$ million in January, 2007 (See Table 9b). 5

6 4.0 REFINERY OPERATIONS 4.1 Crude Oil Balance: In January 2007, the three local refineries (KRPC, WRPC and PHRC) had 296,263 mt of crude oil as opening stock and received 364,749 mt of crude oil into their systems. Total available crude oil meant for processing, therefore, stood at 661,012 mt. Out of this, 379,590 mt of crude oil was processed into petroleum products. Closing stock at the end of the month was 281,422 mt of crude oil. Average throughput for each refinery in metric tons per day was: KRPC 0.00, WRPC and PHRC 12,245; (see Table 10); thus leaving their respective capacity utilization for the month as 0.00%, 0.00% and 43.18%. (See figure 5). The zero capacity utilization for KRPC and WRPC was as a result of vandalized crude oil pipeline at Escravos. 4.2 Production Returns: The refineries KRPC, WRPC and PHRC produced 369,701mt of intermediate and finished products while 390,106 mt was evacuated by PPMC (See Table 13) 4.3 Refinery Fuel and Loss: The refineries recorded 17,601 mt of products as refinery fuel and loss, which was 4.64% of the total crude processed. Of this refinery fuel and loss statistics, 13,189mt (3.47%) was used as fuel, while 410mt (0.11%) was flared and a loss of 4100mt (1.06%) was recorded (See Table 14). 5.0 DOMESTIC PETROLEUM PRODUCTS DISTRIBUTION: The Major and Independent Petroleum Products Marketing Companies distributed a total of million litres of different petroleum products in January This showed an increase of million litres or 6.44% when compared with the total volume distributed in December, 2006 ( million litres). The Major Petroleum Products Marketing Companies sold million litres (71.54% of the total sales) of petroleum products, while the Independent Petroleum Products Marketing Companies sold the remaining million litres (28.46% of the total sales). In the petroleum products distribution slate, Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) had the highest figure of million litres (71.63% of the total) reflecting average daily sales of million litres. Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) was second with total sales figure of million litres (13.12%) averaging 3.63 million litres per day while Dual Purpose Kerosine (DPK) came third with total of million litres (7.40%) giving an average daily sales of 2.04 million litres. (Tables 15, 16 and 17 refer). 6
