2 INTRODUCTION 2 nd Quarter, Paper and board deliveries by CEPI countries were 45.9 million tonnes in the first half of, a small tonnage decrease on the same period of. Highlights of January June (compared with January June ): Production by CEPI countries down by 0.5% (-243,000 tonnes) Deliveries by CEPI countries virtually unchanged at 0.0% (-18,000 tonnes) Exports outside CEPI countries down by 0.9% (-84,000 tonnes) Imports into CEPI countries up by 1.1% (+28,000 tonnes) Consumption of paper and board in CEPI countries down by 0.3% (-131,000 tonnes) Comparison January June with January June Total paper and board consumption for the first half of was 39.4 million tonnes, which represents a decrease of 0.3% (-131,000 tonnes) over the 39.6 million tonnes recorded in the same period of. Consumption of graphic papers fell by 4.0% (-605,000 tonnes) to 14.6 million tonnes, whilst consumption of packaging grades increased by 2.3% (+442,000 tonnes) to 19.5 million tonnes. Consumption of sanitary and household papers rose by 0.7% (+23,000 tonnes) compared with the first half of and usage of all other paper and board increased by 0.5% (+9,000 tonnes). Deliveries to countries other than CEPI countries fell by 0.9% (-84,000 tonnes) compared to the first half of. There was a decrease of 3.6% (-118,000 tonnes) in deliveries to non-cepi European countries whilst exports to North America increased by 7.5% (+67,000 tonnes). Deliveries to Asian countries fell by 0.1% (-2,000 tonnes) whilst exports to Latin America increased by 0.8% (+6,000 tonnes). Exports to all other regions fell by 2.3% (-37,000 tonnes). Exports of graphic grades fell by 3.2% (-138,000 tonnes) to 4.2 million tonnes whilst deliveries to other countries of packaging grades increased by 0.8% (+34,000 tonnes) to 4.0 million tonnes. Exports of sanitary and household papers rose by 9.7% (+26,000 tonnes) compared with January - June and exports of all other paper and board decreased by 2.2% (-6,000 tonnes). The main markets for exports by CEPI countries were non-cepi European countries, which took 35.9% of all exports in January - June (36.9% in ), with deliveries to Asian countries taking 27.1% (26.9% in ). At a more detailed level in January-June, exports to other European countries not in either the EU or CEPI took 21.1% of exports, EU countries not in CEPI took 14.8%, Asia (not including China and Japan) took 21.1%, a further 12.9% went to Africa and 10.0% went to the United States Imports into CEPI countries rose by 1.1% (+28,000 tonnes) when compared to January - June. Imports of graphic grades fell by 1.0% (-9,000 tonnes) and imports of packaging grades increased by 2.4% (+33,000 tonnes) when compared to the first half of. Imports of sanitary and household papers rose by 8.1% (+14,000 tonnes) whilst imports of all other paper and board fell by 10.8% (-10,000 tonnes). Imports from Other Europe increased by 6.0% (+67,000 tonnes) and imports from North America rose by 1.3% (+10,000 tonnes) and imports from Asia rose by 6.3% (+17,000 tonnes). Imports from Latin America fell by 2.0% (-4,000 tonnes) and from all other regions decreased by 25.8% (-62,000 tonnes). Imports from Non-CEPI countries represented 44.9% of all imports in the year to the end of June (42.8% in ) and imports from North America 29.9% (29.8% in ).
3 INTRODUCTION 2 nd Quarter, At a more detailed level in January-June, 36.6% of imports came from other European countries not in either the EU or CEPI, and 24.3% came from the United States. Brazil sent 5.8% and a further 5.3% came from Asia (not including China and Japan). Comparison with 2nd Quarter Total paper and board consumption in this quarter was 19.7 million tonnes which represents a decrease of 0.3% (-131,000 tonnes) over the same quarter of. Graphic paper consumption decreased by 4.4% (-328,000 tonnes), whilst consumption of packaging grades rose by 2.7% (+262,000 tonnes). Consumption of sanitary and household papers rose by 2.0% (+34,000 tonnes) compared with the same quarter of. Usage of all other paper and board fell by 0.5% (-5,000 tonnes). Deliveries to countries other than CEPI countries increased by 0.7% (+31,000 tonnes) compared to the 2nd quarter of. Deliveries to non-cepi European countries decreased by 1.7% (-27,000 tonnes), to reach 1.6 million tonnes whilst exports to North America rose by 5.1% (+23,000 tonnes). Exports to Asian countries rose by 3.2% (+38,000 tonnes) to 1.2 million tonnes. Deliveries to Latin America decreased by 2.8% (-11,000 tonnes) whilst exports to all other countries rose by 1.0% (+8,000 tonnes). The main market for exports by CEPI countries is non-cepi European countries, which took 35.6% of all exports in the 2 nd quarter of (36.5% in Q2 ), with deliveries to Asian countries taking 27.6% (27.0% in Q2 ). Exports of graphic grades rose by 0.9% (+19,000 tonnes), whilst deliveries to other countries of packaging grades stayed virtually unchanged (-1,000 tonnes). Exports of sanitary grades rose by 12.8% (+16,000 tonnes) and exports of all other paper and board decreased by 2.2% (-3,000 tonnes). Imports into CEPI countries rose by 0.8% (+10,000 tonnes) when compared to the same quarter of. Imports from Other Europe increased by 9.1% (+49,000 tonnes) whilst imports from North America decreased by 0.7% (-3,000 tonnes). Imports from Latin America rose by 2.1% (+2,000 tonnes) whilst imports from Asia decreased by 4.1% (-6,000 tonnes). Imports from all other countries fell by 27.8% (- 32,000 tonnes). Imports from other European countries represented 44.6% of all imports in the first quarter (41.2% in Q2 ) and imports from North America took 31.2% of all imports (31.7% in Q2 ). Imports of graphic grades fell by 3.4% (-16,000 tonnes) whilst imports of packaging grades rose by 3.2% (+23,000 tonnes) when compared to the second quarter of. Imports of sanitary grades increased by 13.1% (+11,000 tonnes) whilst imports of all other paper and board fell by 17.4% (-8,000 tonnes). Comparison with 1st Quarter Consumption of paper and board in the second quarter of fell by 0.6% (-109,000 tonnes) compared to the first quarter of. Consumption for the period April June, totalled 19.7 million tonnes. Exports to countries other than CEPI countries rose by 3.4% and imports from outside CEPI increased by 2.1% when compared to the previous quarter. Consumption of packaging grades increased by 1.4% (+138,000 tonnes) and reached 9.8 million tonnes and graphic papers consumption was 7.2 million tonnes, showing a decrease of 3.7% (-275,000 tonnes) over the first quarter of. Consumption of sanitary and household grades increased by 2.1% (+36,000 tonnes) whilst usage of all other paper and board fell by 0.9% (-8,000 tonnes).
4 INTRODUCTION 2 nd Quarter, Exports delivered to countries other than CEPI countries rose by 3.4% (+148,000 tonnes) when compared to the previous quarter. Deliveries to Other European countries rose by 2.0% (+31,000 tonnes) whilst exports North America decreased by 1.5% (-7,000 tonnes). Exports to Latin America fell by 0.3% (-1,000 tonnes) when compared to the previous quarter of. Exports to Asia increased by 7.6% (+88,000 tonnes) and deliveries to all other countries rose by 4.9% (+37,000 tonnes). Exports of graphic grades increased of 7.3% (+148,000 tonnes) and exports of packaging grades rose by 0.4% (+9,000 tonnes) when compared to the first quarter of. Deliveries to non-cepi countries of sanitary grades decreased by 7.8% (-12,000 tonnes) whilst exports all other paper and board rose by 2.35% (+3,000 tonnes). Imports into CEPI countries rose by 2.1% (+27,000 tonnes) when compared to the previous quarter of. There was a rise in imports from other European countries of 0.3% (+2,000 tonnes) and imports from North America rose by 11.6% (+43,000 tonnes). Imports from Latin America increased by 2.1% (+2,000 tonnes), imports from Asia fell by 5.4% (-8,000 tonnes) and imports from all other regions fell by 12.6% (-12,000 tonnes). Imports of graphic grades fell by 2.8% (-13,000 tonnes) when compared to the first quarter of whilst imports of packaging grades rose by 6.3% (+44,000 tonnes). Imports of sanitary grades increased by 3.3% (+3,000 tonnes) and imports of all other paper and board fell by 15.6% (-7,000 tonnes). Notes: 1.
