Precutions It should be kept in mind, while working on the product, tht the electricl nd ignition systems re cpble of violent nd dmging short circuits or severe electricl shocks. When performing ny work where electricl terminls could possibly be grounded or touched by the mechnic, the bttery cbles should be disconnected t the bttery. Any time the intke or exhust openings re exposed during service they should be covered to protect ginst ccidentl entrnce of foreign mteril into the cylinders which could cuse extensive internl dmge when the engine is strted. During ny mintennce procedure, replcement fsteners must hve the sme mesurements nd strength s those removed. Numbers on the heds of the metric bolts nd on the surfces of metric nuts indicte their strength. Americn bolts use rdil lines for this purpose, while most Americn nuts do not hve strength mrkings. Mismtched or incorrect fsteners cn result in dmge or mlfunction, or possibly personl injury. Therefore, fsteners removed should be sved for reuse in the sme loctions whenever possible. Where the fsteners re not stisfctory for reuse, cre should be tken to select replcement tht mtches the originl. Replcement Prts Use of prts other thn the recommended service replcement prts will void the wrrnty on those prts tht re dmged s result.! WARNING Avoid fire or explosion hzrd. Electricl, ignition, nd fuel system components on Mercury Mrine products comply with U.S. Cost Gurd rules to minimize risk of fire or explosion. Do not use replcement electricl or fuel system components tht do not comply with these rules. When servicing the electricl nd fuel systems, properly instll nd tighten ll components. Clenliness nd Cre of Product A Mercury Mrine Power Product is combintion of mny mchined, honed, polished, nd lpped surfces with tolernces mesured in the ten thousnds of n inch/mm. When ny product component is serviced, cre nd clenliness re importnt. It should be understood tht proper clening nd protection of mchined surfces nd friction res is prt of the repir procedure. This is considered stndrd shop prctice even if not specificlly stted. Whenever components re removed for service, they should be retined in order. At the time of instlltion, they should be instlled in the sme loctions nd with the sme mting surfces s when removed.

3 Personnel should not work on or under n engine tht is suspended. Engines should be ttched to work stnds, or lowered to ground s soon s possible.

10 Section 1 - Getting Strted Overview The SmrtCrft VesselView is comprehensive bot informtion center. VesselView displys vitl informtion for up to three engines t one time. It continuously monitors nd reports bsic operting dt, s well s detiled informtion such s se wter temperture nd depth, trim sttus, bot speed nd steering ngle, nd the sttus of fuel, oil, wter, nd wste tnks. VesselView cn be fully integrted with bot s globl positioning system (GPS) to provide up to the minute nvigtion, speed, nd fuel to destintion informtion Pge MARCH 2007

VesselView enters suspend mode for 48 hours when the key switches for ll engines connected to VesselView re turned to the "OFF" position. When ny key switch is turned to the "RUN" position gin, VesselView quickly displys the lst ctive screen. To shut down the VesselView completely for storge, press the cncel button while turning the key switches to the "OFF" position. When ny key switch is turned to the "RUN" position gin, VesselView displys the lst ctive screen fter it completes the boot up cycle. NOTE: Replce the VesselView sun cover when the unit is not is use to protect the screen. During the initil strtup sequence for VesselView, setup wizrd screen ppers, prompting you to enter the initil setup for the unit. If this hppens, follow the procedures in Section 2 - Setup nd Clibrtion. Clening the VesselView Screen The VesselView screen will need to be clened s prt of proper mintennce. Use soft cloth with sop nd wter to clen the screen. Avoid using more brsive cloth s this my scrtch nd dmge the screen lens. Pge MARCH 2007

14 Section 2 - Setup nd Clibrtion Initil Setup Turning the key switch to the "RUN" position ctivtes ll VesselView units connected to the system. Complete the following initil setup process when strting up ny VesselView unit for the first time, or fter selecting "RESET SETTINGS DIRECTORY" on the fctory reset screen. This process clibrtes ech VesselView unit to the vessel's engine, sensor, nd instrument configurtion. Initil setup procedures include: Following the steps of the setup wizrd Clibrting the tnks Using the Setup Wizrd Configuring trim settings, if pplicble Repet the following procedures for ech VesselView unit instlled on the vessel. The setup wizrd guides you through the first steps of configuring the VesselView. The setup wizrd utomticlly begins when the VesselView unit is turned on the first time, or when fctory reset is performed. 1. Turn on ll engines. The first screen is the "WELCOME" screen. 2. Press the right rrow button on the rrow trckpd to proceed to "IMPORT CONFIG". Import Configurtion (optionl) The import configurtion menu is used to import selected configurtion settings using USB memory stick. This will import configurtions tht were sved to USB memory stick from nother VesselView unit Pge MARCH 2007

15 Section 2 - Setup nd Clibrtion 1. The "IMPORT CONFIG" screen instructs you to insert memory stick nd wit for instructions. To skip this step nd mnully configure the VesselView, press the right rrow button. IMPORT CONFIG TO IMPORT CONFIGURATION, INSERT MEMORY STICK AND WAIT FOR INSTRUCTIONS On the bck of the VesselView unit there is USB port. Insert USB memory stick with sved configurtion into the USB port. b c Ethernet port (future use) b - USB Port c - USB memory stick IMPORTANT: Do not remove the USB memory stick until the import process is complete. 3. When the memory stick is detected, the "IMPORT CONFIG" screen will disply "MEMORY STICK READY" MARCH 2007 Pge 7

16 Section 2 - Setup nd Clibrtion 4. Press the enter button to import the configurtion. IMPORT CONFIG TO IMPORT CONFIGURATION, INSERT MEMORY STICK AND WAIT FOR INSTRUCTIONS. MEMORY STICK READY TO IMPORT Engine Setup 5. VesselView will restrt nd import the configurtion. You will not need to go through the rest of the setup wizrd. VesselView utomticlly detects the vessel's power pckge. On the "ENGINE SETUP" screen, VesselView llows you to chnge the type nd number of engines. 17 Section 2 - Setup nd Clibrtion "Diesel Inbord No Troll" b - Engine type b - Number of engines IMPORTANT: The "ENGINE TYPE" box my be blnk when the "ENGINE SETUP" screen initilly ppers. Before beginning this procedure, wit until n engine type ppers in the "ENGINE TYPE" box. If n engine type does not pper, check tht ll engines re on nd tht the VesselView is properly connected. For instlltion informtion, refer to Section 9 Instlltion nd Wiring. 1. Wit until n engine type ppers in the "ENGINE TYPE" box. The "ENGINE TYPE" box my tke severl seconds to detect the engine. 2. If the engine type is correct, proceed to step 5; otherwise, press the enter button to ccess the "ENGINE TYPE" box. 3. Press the left or right rrow button to scroll through the vilble engine types. 4. Confirm your selection by pressing the enter button. 5. If the number of engines is correct, proceed to step 8; otherwise, press the enter button, then the down rrow button to ccess the "NUMBER OF ENGINES" box. 6. Press the right rrow button to increse the number of engines or the left rrow button to decrese the number of engines. The mximum number of engines is four. IMPORTANT: Select the totl number of engines instlled, regrdless of how mny you wish to disply on the VesselView. 7. Confirm your selection by pressing the enter button. 8. Press the right rrow button to proceed to the "DISPLAY SETUP" screen. NOTE: VesselView displys dt from one engine by defult. NOTE: Although you my select up to four engines, VesselView only displys dt for mximum of two diesel engines or three gsoline engines. Choosing four engines llows you to dd two more tnks; nd to view the totl fuel flow, fuel rnge, nd drive link guges for ll engines. All other dt is displyed for the mximum number of engines llowed. Disply Setup The "DISPLAY SETUP" screen llows you to choose where the dt for ech engine is displyed on the VesselView. Typiclly, the engines re displyed left to right in the sme order s their physicl loctions port to strbord. Some helm configurtions my require different disply settings. If you choose to disply only one engine in multi engine ppliction, VesselView displys ggregte dt such s totl fuel flow nd rnge for ll engines, but displys engine specific dt for only the engine selected for tht disply MARCH 2007 Pge 9

18 Section 2 - Setup nd Clibrtion IMPORTANT: Do not choose the sme screen loction for more thn one engine. 1. If the screen loctions re correct, proceed to step 7; otherwise, press the enter button to ccess the "RIGHT SIDE" box. NOTE: The "DISPLAY SETUP" screen shown is for dul engines. Triple nd qud pplictions will show three boxes. The third box will be listed s "CENTER" loction. b - Right side loction b - Left side loction Device Setup 2. Press the left or right rrow button to scroll through the vilble loction types. You my select ny of the following, depending on the number of engines: "NONE" "STBD" "PORT" "CENTER" (triples only) "STBDCNTR" (quds only) "PORTCNTR" (quds only) 3. If there re multiple engines, press the down rrow to proceed to the "LEFT SIDE" box. 4. Press the left or right rrow button to scroll through the vilble loction types. 5. For three or four engine pplictions, press the down rrow to proceed to the "CENTER" box. 6. Confirm your selections by pressing the enter button. 7. Press the right rrow button to proceed to the "DEVICE SETUP" screen. The unique VesselView ID differentites the VesselView unit from ll other instlled SmrtCrft devices, such s other VesselView units or SmrtCrft guges. The "DEVICE SETUP" screen llows you to ssign unique identifier to ech VesselView unit nd to designte whether the VesselView is instlled t the primry or secondry helm. IMPORTANT: Do not choose the sme Unique VesselView ID for more thn one VesselView unit. Pge MARCH 2007

If there is only one VesselView or SmrtCrft device instlled in the vessel, proceed to step 6; otherwise, press the enter button to ccess the "UNIQUE VESSELVIEW ID" box. b - VesselView ID b - Helm ID Complete 2. Press the right rrow button to increse the number of the ID. Choose number tht is different from the number ssigned to ny other VesselView unit instlled. 3. Press the down rrow to proceed to the "HELM ID" box. 4. Press the left or right rrow button to choose helm 1 or helm Confirm your selections by pressing the enter button. 6. Press the right rrow button to proceed to the "COMPLETE" screen. The Setup Wizrd displys the "COMPLETE" screen fter you hve completed ll the steps of the wizrd. To review your choices or to go bck to screen to mke corrections, use the left rrow button. When you re sure tht your selections re correct, press the enter button to sve your configurtion nd restrt the VesselView unit. VesselView displys sving settings messge, then restrts. 20 Section 2 - Setup nd Clibrtion NOTE: If you wnt to chnge the vessel configurtion fter exiting the Setup Wizrd, you my either restrt the wizrd by choosing Reset Settings Directory on the "Fctory Reset" screen in the "Clibrtion" menu or reconfigure the vessel using the "Vessel Config" menu. Clibrtion Menu Options The "Clibrte" menu will llow you to setup your VesselView to your specific bot. The "Clibrte" menu items include the following: "Tnk" "Trim" "Vessel Config" "Fctory Reset" "Sve Configs" "Lod Configs" Setup Setup Clibrte Settings Clibrte Alrms Settings System Alrms Info System Info Clibrte Tnk Trim Vessel Config Fctory Reset Sve Configs Lod Configs Clibrting the Tnks Open the tnk config screen by pressing the menu button until the "Setup" menu ppers. Use the down rrow button to select the "Clibrte" option. Press the enter button to open the "Clibrte" menu, then the enter button to select "Tnk". Tnk nd Loction Selection 1. Open the "TANK CONFIG" screen. The engine loction box is highlighted. 2. Use the left or right rrow button to choose which engine to configure. NOTE: You my configure up to two tnks for ech engine on the bot if these engines re so equipped. For exmple, on triple engine ppliction, six tnks re vilble. 3. Press the down rrow to proceed to the tnk selection box. Pge MARCH 2007

21 4. Use the right rrow button to choose which tnk number to configure. Section 2 - Setup nd Clibrtion b - Engine loction b - Tnk selection Press the enter button to confirm your choice. The "TYPE", "SIZE", nd "LOCATION" boxes will pper. b c - Type of tnk b - Size of tnk c - Loction of tnk Use the left or right rrow button to scroll through the vilble tnk types in the "TYPE" box. You my select ny of the following: "NOT USED" "FUEL" "OIL" "WATER" "WASTE" 7. Press the down rrow to proceed to the "SIZE" box. 8. Use the right rrow button to scroll to the cpcity of the tnk. Holding the button down cuses the scroll to speed up MARCH 2007 Pge 13

22 Section 2 - Setup nd Clibrtion IMPORTANT: The defult unit for mesuring tnk cpcity is U.S. gllons. To choose different unit of mesurement, refer to Section 7 Settings. 9. Press the down rrow to proceed to the "LOCATION" box. You my select ny of the following: "S1" (strbord 1), "S2" (strbord 2), "S3" (strbord 3), "SF" (strbord forwrd), or "SA" (strbord ft) "P1" (port 1), "P2" (port 2), "P3" (port 3), "PF" (port forwrd), or "PA" (port ft) "C1" (center 1), "C2" (center 2), "C3" (center 3), "CF" (center forwrd), or "CA" (center ft) 10. To chnge the vlues lredy entered, press the cncel button to return to the previous screen. Otherwise, press the enter button to confirm your selections. VesselView will then disply two methods of clibrtion. Tnk Clibrtion VesselView offers two tnk clibrtion methods. For liner shped fuel tnks, choose "METHOD 1: DEFAULT". Using method 1, VesselView ssumes tht the tnk is uniformly shped nd tht ech qurter of the tnk holds qurter of its totl cpcity. For irregulrly shped fuel tnks, choose "METHOD 2: MANUAL". You will be required to fill the tnk for the mnul method. b - Method 1 Defult b - Method 2 Mnul METHOD 1: DEFAULT 1. On the tnk clibrtion screen, press the enter button to choose the "DEFAULT" clibrtion method. VesselView displys sving settings messge. 2. Repet the tnk clibrtion process for ny dditionl tnks. METHOD 2: MANUAL 1. On the tnk clibrtion screen, press the cncel button to choose the "MANUAL" clibrtion method. 2. Ensure the tnk is empty. Press the enter button to confirm. 3. Following the direction on the screen, fill the tnk to 25% of its cpcity. Press the enter button to confirm or the bck button to go bck one step. 4. Following the direction on the screen, fill the tnk to 50% of its cpcity. Press the enter button to confirm or the bck button to go bck one step. Pge MARCH 2007

25 Section 2 - Setup nd Clibrtion Clibrting Trim For power pckges with trim, configure the trim settings on the "TRIM CALIBRATION" screen. VesselView does not disply the "TRIM CALIBRATION" screen for power pckges without trim. To open the "TRIM CALIBRATION" screen, press the menu button until the "Setup" menu ppers, then use the down rrow button to select the "Clibrte" option. Press the enter button to open the "Clibrte" menu. Press the down rrow button, then the enter button to select "Trim". NOTE: Trim clibrtion does not set the mximum engine trim nd triler limits. Refer to the engine instlltion mnul for more informtion on your specific engine. Trim Clibrtion 1. Open the "TRIM CALIBRATION" screen. 2. The "TRIM ENGINE" box prompts you to trim ll engines or drives "DOWN". 3. Press the enter button to confirm tht you hve trimmed ll engines or drives to the full down position, or press the escpe button to go bck one step. This sets the "0.0" trim setting. 4. When the "TRIM ENGINE" box prompts you to trim "UP", trim ll engines or drives up, but not to the triler position. Press the enter button to open the "Clibrte" menu, then use the down rrow to select "Vessel Config". Use the right nd left rrow buttons to select the number of engines. 6. Press the down rrow button to proceed to "RIGHT SCREEN". 7. Press the left or right rrow button to scroll through the vilble loction types. For three or four engine pplictions, press the down rrow to proceed to "CENTER SCREEN". 11. Confirm your selections by pressing the enter button. 12. VesselView will disply the sving setting screen nd restrt. The fctory reset menu is used to reset ll VesselView settings to fctory defult or to perform sensor detection. To perform fctory reset, press the menu button until the "Setup" menu ppers, then use the down rrow button to select the "Clibrte" menu. Press the enter button to open the "Clibrte" menu, then use the down rrow to select "Fctory Reset". Press enter to open the fctory reset screen. IMPORTANT: By selecting "RESET SETTINGS DIRECTORY" ll vessel dt settings will be lost. 1. The fctory reset screen will sk you to "CHOOSE RESET TYPE". The two types of resets re: "RESET SETTINGS DIRECTORY" This will reset VesselView to fctory defults "RESET SENSOR DETECTION" This will scn the VesselView network for ny recently removed or instlled sensors 2. Press enter to continue or cncel to go bck. By pressing enter, the VesselView will reset nd restrt. You will not go through the setup wizrd nd will be directed to the engine sttus screen. All sensors connected before the reset hve been detected nd dt will disply in their menu screens. Sve Configurtion b The "SAVE CONFIGURATION" menu is used to export selected configurtion settings to USB memory stick for use with other VesselView units. This sves time by importing configurtion without hving to complete the entire setup wizrd nd other clibrtions. To "Sve Configs", press the menu button until the "Setup" menu ppers, then use the down rrow button to select the "Clibrte" menu. Press the enter button to open the "Clibrte" menu, then use the down rrow to select "Sve Configs". Press enter to open the "Sve Configs" screen. 1. Once in the "SAVE CONFIGURATION" screen, blue pop up window tells you to "PLEASE INSERT USB MEMORY STICK". TANK CONFIG SAVE CONFIGURATION EXPORT TRIM CONFIG EXPORT STEERING PLEASE INSERT USB MEMORY STICK EXPORT DEPTH CONFIGS UNITS/APP PREF EXPORT EXPORT 2. There re two wys to view the pges in ctegory: 1. Use the propulsion, vessel, or environment nd nvigtion button to view screens in ech screen ctegory.. Press the button tht corresponds to the screen ctegory you wish to view. Refer to Keypd Functions. b. Use the right rrow button or the propulsion, vessel, or environment nd nvigtion button to dvnce to the next pge in the ctegory. Use the left button to move bck pge. 2. 92 Section 8 - Alrms VesselView Wrning Horn Strtegy Active Alrms The VesselView is equipped with its own wrning horn on the VesselView hrness. This horn my sound lrms for engine fults, low wter depth, or low tnk level. The VesselView wrning horn cn be turned on or off in the "Wrnings" screen of the "Settings" menu. Refer to Section 7 - Settings. All engine lrms will be herd through the engine key switch hrness horn regrdless of the VesselView wrning horn setting. From the fctory, the VesselView horn will be turned off. If the horn is turned on in the "Wrnings" screen of the "Settings" menu, engine lrms will lso be herd through the VesselView horn. The VesselView horn will sound solid tone for ll fults nd the engine wrning horn will sound its specific wrning tone. Check the engine owners mnul for possible wrning horns for your engine. NOTE: The wrning horn strtegy of the VesselView my not be the sme horn strtegy s the engine. If the wrning horn is turned on in the "Settings" menu nd you re experiencing VesselView lrm, press the cncel or enter button to cknowledge the fult nd turn off the udible lrm. The low wter depth lrm is set in the "Depth screen of the "Environment nd Nvigtion" menu. This menu llows you to turn the horn on or off. Low wter depth lrms sound udibly even if the wrning horn is turned off in the "Wrnings" screen of the "Settings" menu. The low tnk level lrm is not ble to be turned off. The tnk level t which the lrm will sound cn be djusted down to 10% in the "Wrnings" screen of the "Settings" menu. Refer to Section 7 - Settings. 108 Section 9 - Instlltion nd Wiring Cutting the Instrument Pnel Prepring the Mounting Loction 1. Select suitble loction for the VesselView on the bot's instrument pnel. NOTE: The re behind the pnel should be cler of ny cbles, wiring, or other hrdwre tht my interfere with instlltion. The mounting loction should lso provide good visibility from the bot opertor's position. 2. Disconnect the btteries powering the guges or SmrtCrft components. 3. Cut out the templte locted on the lst pge of the instlltion instructions. NOTE: Alwys check the templte cutout to the mounting holes on the VesselView before drilling. 4. Use the templte to determine the spce required for mounting. 5. Prepre the mounting loction surfce s follows: Fiberglss pnels: Apply msking tpe to the re being cut to prevent crcking the fiberglss. Vinyl-covered pnels: Use rzor blde to crefully remove the vinyl from the re being cut to void tering the vinyl. Cutting the Pnel 1. After prepring the re to be cut, tpe the mounting templte to the pnel. 2. Drill four 5.5 mm (7/32 in.) holes t the loctions shown on the templte for the mounting screws. 3. Drill four 19 mm (3/4 in.) holes t the loctions shown on the templte nd cut out the shded portion of the templte. NOTE: The following digrm is n exmple only. Secure the VesselView with the four mounting screws, wshers, nd wing nuts. Do not overtighten the wing nuts. 3. The bck of the bezel is lbeled "TOP" nd "BOTTOM". Ensure the bezel is ligned correctly to void dmging the bezel or VesselView. 4. Snp the bezel onto the VesselView. VesselView Bezel Removl 1. DTS Wiring Guidelines Move to the next ccess slot nd proceed to pry the bezel off. 4. When the bottom of the bezel is loose, pry up the sides of the bezel with the screwdriver until the bezel releses.! WARNING Splicing or probing will dmge the wire insultion llowing wter to enter the wiring. Wter intrusion my led to wiring filure nd loss of throttle nd shift control. To void the possibility of serious injury or deth from loss of bot control, do not splice or probe into ny wire insultion of the DTS system. Never ttempt to connect, network, tie into, switch, sink source voltge or current from the DTS wiring hrnesses. Never ttempt to connect ny type of communiction or nvigtion equipment into the DTS wiring hrnessing other thn t the designted connection point. Alwys instll bot ccessory equipment using n pproprite power source connection, such s fuse pnel or junction box. Never ttempt to tp directly into ny of the DTS electricl wiring hrnesses for source of power. Wiring Guidelines for Electricl Bot Accessories! WARNING Excessive voltge drop my compromise the DTS system, leding to serious injury or deth from loss of throttle nd shift control. Do not wire ny electricl ccessory into the 12 volt ignition key switch circuits of the DTS system. IMPORTANT: Do not connect bot ccessories to the ignition key switch. Use seprte, switched 12 volt source for wiring bot ccessories. IMPORTANT: The DTS system requires consistent 12 volt power source. Splicing or connecting ccessories to the 12 volt or ignition key switch DTS circuits (purple, purple/ white, or red wires) could blow fuse or overlod circuits, cusing intermittent or complete loss of opertion.
