1 Alpha 87A Blwer Replacement Prcedure Unplug amplifier frm mains pwer and remve tp cver and pwer transfrmer. 1.0 Remve AC Mdule (AHX-X517) l.l Unplug range 3-pin cnnectr at frnt f AC Mdule. 1.2 Remve #6-32 nut and washer at frnt f AC Mdule, and tw #6-32x5/16 screws and lck washers frm back f chassis immediatelv abve and belw fuses. Pull AC Mdule clear f chassis center partitin. 1.3 Remve tw {16-32 screws and lck washers frm frnt and left side edges f T/R Mdule cver, lift perfrated cver ff. Remve tw *f4-40x1l2 screws and lck washers frm back f chassis. Screws are lcated t right frf OUTPUT cnnectr (viewed frm rear f amp). 1.4 Remve tw tl6-32x5/16 screws with lck washers n back f panel near 20Al250v fuse hlders. 1.5 Unscrew #10-32x318 screw frm inside T/R Mdule that munts hrizntal sectin f plate chke t mdule. 1.6 Remve #10-32x3/8 screw frm ther end f hrizntal sectin f plate chke. 1.7 Remve #10-32x3/8 screw frm white Delrin pst that cnnectslder lug t end f tank cil tubing. Remve tubes at this time. 1.8 Unplug 5 cnnectrs frm circuit bard inside T/R Mdule. Remve tw #6-32x318 screws with lck washers and flat washers frm left side f center chassis partitin that secure T/R Mdule. Remve ne lt6-32x3l8 screw with lck washer and flat washer frm back panel f chassis that secures c( clamp. The T/R Mdule is nw free f the chassis and can be lifted ut f the way t remve blwer assembly after step 3.3.

4 2.0 Remve Tube deck 2.1 Remve fur #6-32x5l16 screws with lck washers frm tp f tube deck. Remve tw #6-32x5l16 screws with lck washers frm left 'lip' f tube deck. 2.2 Remve ne #G32x5l16 screw with lck washer frm frnt left-side f tube deck. 2.3 Remve ne #6-32x5/16 screw with lck washer and flat washer frm nyln cable clamp n frnt left-side f tube deck. 2.4 Remve tw #6-32x5l16 screws with lck washers n back f panel near RELAY and RF INPUT cnnectrs. 2.5Lift up n left side f 87A and stand it n right side f chassis. Remve fur #6-32x5/16 screws with lck washers frm bttm f tube deck. Remve tube deck bttm plate. 2.6Inside tube dech unslder small white wire frm feed thrugh capacitr lead that passes thrugh hle in INPUT MATCH bard. This is in the upper-right crner fthe tube deck as viewed with amplifier standing n its right side. 2.7 Remve tw #6-32x5/16 scrervs with lck washers and flat washers that are INSIDE the tube declg near the lwer edge f the INP{-ff MATCH bard. A right-angle screwdriver may be necessary. 2.8 Remve tfuee#6-32x5l16 screws with lck washers frm inside ftube deck inside. These are alng the edge f the tube deck n the same side as the previus tw screws. Lift tube deck up and remve metal plate arund blwer husing.

7 3.0 Remve Blwer 3.1 Cut the range 3-pin cnnectr that was previus$ remved frm AC Mdule (step 1.1) frm black blwer wires. This will make remval f wires easier. 3.2 If blwer shipping screws are installed, remve them (tw #l-32x318 screws with fiber washers) frm back panel f chassis. 3.3 Remve six #6-32x5/16 screws with lck washers frm bttm f chassis. This will lsen blwer assembly and allw it t be lifted ut f the amplifier. 3.4 Lwer 87A chassis nt benctr, lift TiR Mdule ut. Carefully lift the tube deck up ut f its nrmal psitin, grasp the blwer and remve it thrugh the area where the tube deck was lcated. D nt scrape r nick windings f plate chke. 4.0 Replace Blwer 4.1 Place new blwer assembly in chassis, ruting black wires the same way the riginal blwer wires were ruted in amplifier. D nt nick r scrape windings f plate chke! 4.2 Fllw steps 3.3 t l.l in reverse rder, being careful nt t pinch wires when replacing the T/R Mdule ver the blwer and tightening the munting hardware. 30-JAN-04
