This manual contains important information about the installation, operation and maintenance of your Cabinet Door and Frame Clamp. Installation 1. When positioning the machine, allow a ceiling height of 106 inches. When opened, the guards will extend higher than the main frame tubes.

Remove the machine from the shipping skid by lifting underneath the cross tubes of the frame. 3. Remove the bracing holding the motor during shipping. 4.

5 Installation 1. When positioning the machine, allow a ceiling height of 106 inches. When opened, the guards will extend higher than the main frame tubes. The machine weighs 1450 pounds when skidded, so handle accordingly. When moving the machine, lift underneath the cross tubes of the frame. 2. Remove the machine from the shipping skid by lifting underneath the cross tubes of the frame. 3. Remove the bracing holding the motor during shipping. 4. Depending on the shipping of your machine, the motor may already be installed. If not, mount the motor to the gearbox using the screws supplied. Make sure the key is in place on the motor shaft before attaching it to the gearbox. 5. Attach a 1/4 or larger airline to the regulator that is located on the side of the control box. 6. Plug the power cord into a 120V outlet that is rated for 20 amps. 3/11/03 VJL (5 of 16) MAN78B.M7

6 Coating the Jaws: Operation A 16-oz. spray bottle is supplied with your machine for coating the jaws with Bates Boothcoating. Pour the Boothcoating directly from the 1-quart can into the spray bottle and adjust the nozzle. Spray a light mist of Boothcoating over all areas that will come in contact with the glue. Additional quantities of Boothcoating can be purchased from: U.C. Chemical Corp. P.O. Box Fillmore Avenue Buffalo, NY Tel: Setting up the Machine: 1. This machine is designed to be run safely by only one operator. 2. There is an on/off switch located on the front of the control box. A few seconds after this switch is turned on, the indicator light on the control box will light, indicating that the machine is ready to use. 3. Set the air regulator to 40 psi and adjust when necessary for the desired clamping force: Vertical Clamping Force vs. Air Pressure Regulator Setting: The graph below shows the vertical clamping force for air pressures between 0 and 100 psi: Vertical Clamping Force (lbs.) Per Cylinder The total side force is 2X the figure shown Air Pressure (psi) Regulator Setting Standard Operation: 1. On the right hand side of the control box are three buttons labeled Up, Close, and Down. For any of these buttons to function, the button on the left hand side of the control box must be pressed at the same time. 2. To energize the air cylinders, press the left hand button and the Close button at the same time. After you hold the buttons down for two seconds, the indicator light will begin to flash, indicating that the cylinders are latched in the energized state. Once the light begins to flash, the buttons can be released and the cylinders will remain energized. To de-energize the cylinders, press the Open button on the front of the control box. 3. To adjust the rear jaw of the machine up and down, press the left hand button and either the Up button or the Down button. Use this Power Setup feature for positioning the jaws only and NOT clamping. The machine has mechanical limits at the top and bottom of its stroke, but powering the rear jaw into a workpiece may blow the circuit breaker. 3/11/03 VJL (7 of 16) MAN78B.M7

8 Operation 4. The rear jaw can be adjusted with either the cylinders activated or de-activated. When clamping mitered doors, it is usually desirable to energize the cylinders first, then adjust the rear jaw to the finished dimension of the door. 5. The side cylinders are adjusted by removing the push pins, sliding the cylinder assembly, and reinserting the pins. Fine adjustment is made by adjusting the large nuts on the threaded ends of the cylinder rods. Always adjust both the left hand stops and the right hand cylinders together in order to keep the workpiece centered in the machine. 3/11/03 VJL (8 of 16) MAN78B.M7

9 Maintenance Weekly: 1. Grease the main nut with axle grease. 2. Do NOT lubricate the plastic bearings or tubing. General: 1. If the wheel bearing in the main cylinder yoke is replaced, pack it with automotive wheel bearing grease. 3/11/03 VJL (9 of 16) MAN78B.M7

The Indicator Light on the Control Box Never Comes on: Reset the circuit breaker (located on the right hand side of the control box).

The Cylinders Don't Extend at the Same Speed: Shims Adjust the flow controls on each cylinder.

The Machine Keeps Getting Out of Square: Make sure the two tie rods that extend from the top of the machine to the outer ends of the lower jaw are tight.

10 The Indicator Light on the Control Box Never Comes on: Reset the circuit breaker (located on the right hand side of the control box). Troubleshooting The Machine is Out of Square: Shim the front and rear jaws so that they are straight and parallel. The Cylinders Don't Extend at the Same Speed: Shims Adjust the flow controls on each cylinder. For safe operation, all cylinders should completely extend within two seconds of pressing the buttons. The Machine Keeps Getting Out of Square: Make sure the two tie rods that extend from the top of the machine to the outer ends of the lower jaw are tight. Also see the next item. Tie Rod The Rear Jaw is too Loose: Tighten each of the plastic bearings by loosening the jam nut and then turning the bearing mount adjusting screw slightly clockwise. The bearings should be adjusted so that the plastic just lightly contacts the tubes. If these bearings are adjusted too tight, the rear jaw adjusting motor will hesitate or trip the circuit breaker.
