1 Camry 3vz-fe engine removal guide PLEASE READ THE DISCLAIMER AT THE END OF THIS DOCUMENT. Jiff thought it would be a good idea if I detailed the removal proceedure so the man at home would have an easier time removing the engine,so hopefully this quickly thrown together guide will answer many questions and make the whole process less knuckle scraping. Preparation and tools needed A good trolley jack and axle stands is a must,don t even attempt this without them,you will die. The engine can be removed with basic spanners and socket set,the only specialist tool I would advise is an 8mm allen socket for undoing the driveshaft bolts,or if you have a grinder (silly question!) you can cut through them.a hacksaw and bolt croppers are also good tools for quickly cutting through crap we don t need or don t care about. Make sure the car is on a level surface and all oil from both gearbox and engine have been drained along with emptying the power steering fluid,if you don t it ends up in your hair,trust me its not a good look. Here we go! This is the engine bay before touching a thing. Hopefully it resembles what you have in front of you,if not you have probably bought a mondeo by mistake,like goldy :0) Very first thing you need to do is remove the battery terminals Then remove the battery retaining clamp and remove the battery

2 Next job is to remove the cruise control actuator,start by ripping off the plastic cover to the left of the battery in the pic above Circled above is the cruise control,you need to cut or remove everything that goes to this unit,we don t need any of it so chop away all cables and electrics

3 Once the cables and electrics are off remove the bolts holding the actuator in place,once that s done it will remove. Now remove the three battery tray bolts and the earth strap as above,remove the tray.

4 Next,remove the air filter assembly and AFM with all induction pipework,unclip the airbox (red) and remove the clips (green) Remove the airbox base by undoing the bolts above

5 Next remove the coilpack/ignitor unit,two bolts (red) and all of the electrical connections (green)

6 Now cut or remove the heater pipes (red line) Remove the fuel pipe feed and return (green) Remove the charcoal cannister line (blue) Cut through or remove the gear selector cable (yellow line)

7 Remove the two 10mm nuts holding the engine harness onto the bulkhead (red) Unplug the diagnostic port from its bracket (blue) Unbolt this fusebox from the inner wing and turn it upside down,remove its bottom cover to expose the engine harness plugs

8 Remove every plug from the back of the fusebox Unplug this connector

9 Remove the two vac pipes from the vac canister (red) Cut through these two lines marked in blue Cut through this line (red) or undo the union (blue),choice is yours,we have bolt croppers and its loads quicker to cut.

10 Cut or remove top radiator hose (red) Cut expansion line (blue) Remove radiator top bolts (red) Pull the radiator up and cut the hoses and bottom rad pipe,when everythings off the rad pull it clear.

11 Cut through the AC pipes at the red line if you intend to keep AC on your conversion,cut through the blue line if you aren t or unbolt the pipes at the AC pump,either way. Cut through or remove power steering pipes (red) Unbolt top engine steady bar (blue) Remove earth strap bolt (green)

12 Unplug harness here (red) Cut through or remove brake servo hose (blue) Cut through or remove these cables/lines

13 Remove shock absorber bolts (red) Remove front engine mount bolts (red) Remove engine mount bolt in blue from underneath the car

14 Remove rubber grommets from NS engine mount subframe and undo the 14mm nuts There are four similar nuts on the rear of the subframe right beside the exhaust,sorry no pic,undo these to release the rear engine mount from the subframe Undo the six allen bolts holding each driveshaft onto the gearbox output flanges,or cut through the driveshafts.

15 Rip the glovebox out,it smashes in seconds,pointless trying to remove it properly,this will give you access to the ecu and harness plugs Unplug 3 ecu plugs (red) Unplug connector (green) Unplug row of body plugs (blue) Leave the 4 th ecu plug in and cut the harness at the red line

16 Unbolt the ecu and remove Pull the harness through the firewall and lay it on top of the engine Exhaust,you can either undo the 4 bolts holding the downpipes onto the manifolds or chop through the flexi just before the subframe The engine is now ready to remove,attach a chain to the engine lifting hooks,and lift it clear of the engine bay with a block and tackle or engine hoist You should be left with this
