Three individual coils replace the original single coil. The distributor, rotor arm, king lead and distributor cap can all be removed. This aims to improve reliability and eliminates these service replacement items. RWHP. Measurements taken at AET Turbos Motorsport 9 th June UK spec. Porsche 911 Carrera 3.2 engine. Factory ECU versus DRH Performance ECU, DIS ignition and custom maps. All modifications are easily reversible and can be completed in two hours with experience.

2 Start by disconnecting the wiring loom from the ECU. This picture is taken with the seat removed for clarity. Undo the screw (arrowed) in the end of the harness connector. This will give access to the individual wiring loom pins. Slide off the harness back shell, to expose the individual wires and pins within the wiring loom. The grey loom extension harness provides a switched earth for the extra two ignition coils that we re adding to the system. Remove the slotted plastic piece (arrowed), and push the brown wire into ECU position 31. Push the blue wire into ECU position 32. Reassemble the harness connector assembly and connect it to the ECU. Use cable ties so that the loom extension harness follows the main wiring loom.

3 Follow the main wiring harness to the rear bulkhead (you will need to peel back carpeting carefully). The loom extension is passed through the existing bulkhead grommet. It does make things easier if you can access the underside of the vehicle. This picture shows the new extension wiring loom underneath the car, after passing through the bulkhead grommet. Use existing clips and/or cable ties to secure the extension wiring loom. Follow the path of the existing wiring harness and bring the new wiring into the engine bay near the left-hand suspension mounting turret. The original single coil can now be removed from the car. To do this, unplug the king lead, disconnect the two low tension harness wires and undo the mounting nuts. This exposes two M8 studs on the inner wing area. Slide the M8x5 nylon spacers onto these.

4 Now fit the terminal block, using the original coil mounting nuts and washers. Two terminals are longer than the other six. Position the terminal block so that these are at the top. Connect the coil wiring harness to the terminal block. Use the lower terminals. From left to right; green, blue, brown, black. Now cut the grey extension harness to length, and crimp/solder the M4 ring terminals onto the blue and brown wires. Use heat shrink tube for a neat appearance. Connect the blue and brown wires from the extension harness onto the terminal block as pictured. To complete the coil wiring, connect the green and black wires from the original wiring loom onto the terminal block. Use the provided washers on either side of these ring terminals to ensure a secure grip. The distributor can now be removed. Unplug and remove the distributor cap and the ignition leads. Undo the nut (arrowed) and withdraw the distributor from the engine block.

5 The DIS pack mounting bracket and distributor bung is now positioned in place of the distributor. Add some grease on the Viton O-ring before fitment. Secure the bracket using the distributor mounting nut. The DIS pack can now mounted to the bracket using the four hex head bolts and spring washers. Connect the four pin harness connector, and plug in the new HT leads as follows the HT leads match the cylinder layout of the Porsche engine. Be very certain that the HT leads make a secure contact with the spark plugs. Due to their recessed location this can be tricky, but you will notice a positive click when they are positioned correctly. The new HT leads follow the same layout as the original Porsche items. Use the original mounting brackets on the fan housing to secure them. This picture shows a DRH DIS ignition kit installed alongside a DRH MAP conversion kit. Software Upgrades If you purchased your DIS ignition conversion kit at the same time as your DRH Performance ECU, all necessary software is already preloaded into the ECU. If you purchased the DIS ignition conversion kit separately, you MUST upgrade the software in your ECU before attempting to start the engine. There are two alternative methods, depending on whether you have a programmable ECU or a locked ECU. Locked ECU - Your DIS conversion kit contains a firmware upgrade CD. Follow the instructions on the CD to perform the upgrade. Alternatively you can return the unit to Canems for reprogramming. Programmable ECU - As your ECU is programmable, there is no need to upgrade the firmware. Instead, you can simply load a new map into the ECU. Your conversion kit contains a CD with this map installed. Follow the instructions on the CD to perform the upgrade, or alternatively consult your ECU manual and the section entitled Loading and Saving Files.
