If you are not comfortable performing the steps detailed here then do not attempt this install, take your car to a professional. We take no responsibility for any damage that may come from following these instructions. It is important to understand that there are two versions of OEM Recaros. One uses a 4pin plug and the other uses a 3pin plug. If you bought your Recaros from BoraBrazil you most likely have a 4pin plug. In the US 4pin plugs were used until 2001, from then on the 3pin versions were used. Check your seat and your car before beginning the install. There is a picture of the style plug at the end of these instructions. // WARNING // We take no responsibility for any damage that may occur to you, your car, or anyone performing/ assisting/watching, during this procedure. You do this at your own risk. Please take every safety precaution. If your are uncomfortable with anything in these instructions please take your car to a professional. 1. Here are the tools you will need: (1)Phillips head screw driver (1)3/8th driver, (1)13mm deep socket, (1)3inch extension (1)10mm socket A Piece of duct tape, (1)Torque wrench UPDATE! You need a 6mm 12 point spline tool to remove your seat belt latch and some lock tight to secure that bolt. You will also need a soldering iron or quick connects to do the wiring for the airbag harness. Also if your seats were not shipped with three yellow wires you will need to contact your local VW dealer and order part number: A (You need three of these).

2 Page 2 of First use the driver with the 3-inch extension and the 10mm socket to disconnect the negative lead on the battery. 3. Slide the seat all the way to the front of the car. Now rip off a piece of duct tape.

3 Page 3 of Place the duct tape over the screw cover on the back rail of the seat you are going to remove. Best to do this from the back seat 5. Push it down tight over the screw cover leaving enough tape exposed so that you can pull it off easily.

4 Page 4 of Pull it off from the front of the rail pulling it back towards you and the screw cover will come right out. 7. Do the same on the other rail shown here.

5 Page 5 of Take the screws out of the rail cover on both sides. 9. Gently move the rail cover up and push it forward until the tab unlocks at the front of the rail cover. Go slow and it will just lift out when you have it right. the inside rail is not as easy but go slow and you'll get it. It helps to have the seat raised up a bit for this part.

6 Page 6 of Move to the front seat area and slide the seat all the way back. 11. At the front of the seat near the bottom you will see to nuts.

7 Page 7 of Use a 13mm deep socket to remove the nuts. Then slide the seat all the way forward. With one large push slide the seat all the way back and it should pop right out of the front mount and slide all the way back on the rail tracks. (this is tough but it works) 13. Tip the seat back towards the rear of the car and undo all of the wire plugs on the bottom of the seat. MAKE SURE TO GROUND YOURSELF BEFORE REMOVING THE YELLOW PLUG!!!!!!!!!! this is your airbag and static can set if off.

8 Page 8 of Tip the seat forward and get it out of the car with out messing up your plastics and your all done... Easy right :-) 15. You will need to remove your drivers (And passengers if you have a 2002 or newer) seat belt latches. The cable highlighted in yellow must be removed from the seat. In my case it was held in place by zip ties but yours may be different. ONLY removed the zip ties or clips below the metal strip as shown, DO NOT try to remove the clips on the metal strip. ***Credit where credit is due. Without Rave'nGTi's hard work we would not have known the importance of swapping the seat belt latch. For any of you with 2002 or newer this is part of your airbag system. Thx!!!

9 Page 9 of Clip the zip ties being careful not to cut the wires. 17. There may be more zip-ties on the bottom of the seat. Just follow the wire and remove them.

10 Page 10 of The wire will go under the white clip at the bottom of the seat. Just open the clip and remove the wire. 19. At the end of the wire is a black (or yellow if your car is newer than 2002) plug. To remove the plug find the clip, in this case there is a small tab at the top high-lighted in yellow, and move it over. Then slide the entire plug up.

11 Page 11 of Now that the wire is free put it up out of the way. See the bolt at the bottom with the yellow triangle on it? That is what is holding on the strap. 21. To remove the bolt use the 6mm spline tool, try to get it as deep as possible into the bolt and go slow to prevent any stripping of the bolt.

12 Page 12 of Once you get the bolt out you should see some red residue on it. That is lock tight. Make sure you put lock tight back on the bolt when you put it on the new seat... Grab the strap and wiggle it until it comes out of the rubber pad at the bottom. This whole assembly goes on your new seats. Remove the ones on the new seats and use those bolts to attach your originals. (Don't forget the washer.) Once you have them on your new seats just zip tie or clip the wire back into place. 23. Now onto the wiring. The yellow connector is your airbag harness, the Recaro's have a different connector than our US cars so you need to modify the harness from the car to plug into the seats. You will need three wires to do this the PN is : A Cut off the yellow plug leaving enough wire to replace your original harness just in case.

13 Page 13 of Now that the wires are clipped cut the new wires in half so you have 6 ends with clips on them. Splice the ends on to the original harness wires and plug them into the Euro plug so that when the plug goes into the seats the colors match up to the diagram to the right. Drivers Side: Brown = Brown, White = Blue, Green = Black. Passenger Side: Brown = Brown, Light Blue = Blue, White = Black Match the seat! 25. Now install your new seats and plug them in. The front two nuts get torqued down to 23nm. That's it, you're all done... Reconnect your battery and turn your ignition on but not over. Make sure that the Airbag warning light does not come on. If you did everything right then you should have no warning lights.
