2 Example 1: Avoidance

3 During the growing season (June 1 October 1) do a visual survey of the proposed project footprint and a 25-foot zone around it in the Lower Shore Zone (LSZ). PROPERTY LINE 25 ft

4 If no SAV in 25-foot zone, document with photographs, vegetation scenario is 0 If SAV is present in 25-foot zone, go to next step.

15 Step 4: Look at Table 1 in RGP-6 to identify which Vegetation Scenario exists in LSZ based on calculated percent cover in previous Step. Native Eelgrass and/or Kelp (including Laminaria sp.) Use this column for areas where native (Zostera marina) and/or kelp occur within 25 feet of proposed project. For example: 5% of area covered by native and 15% by other SAV Vegetation Scenario 1. Does not apply if any native or kelp present. All other Vegetation Use this column to determine vegetation scenario for areas where no native and/or kelp occur. 16 Step 5: Look at Table 2 in RGP-6 for the Mitigation Calculation for floats in LSZ. Insert the area of float in the LSZ into the formula to determine the required Mitigation Points the the portion of the float in the LSZ. Floats and Floating Watercraft Lifts Insert the square feet of float(s) (outside dimensions including open and grated areas) into the formula, including access float and piles, located in the LSZ where the float is at least 50% grated with 60% open space and there are 8 or less piles. Upon completion of your survey/delineation, see Table 1 for the Vegetation Scenario Table and choose appropriate option. 19 If no SAV in 25-foot zone, document with photographs, vegetation scenario is 0 If SAV is present in 25-foot zone, re-locate buoy placement to avoid SAV. If SAV is throughout site and impacts are unavoidable, contact Corps to discuss measures needed to minimize impacts (i.e., move to deeper water, use a helical screw anchor, etc)
