The hitch rod "F," Figure 18, on the Nos. 44 and 44H Plows is provided so that the rear end of the plow will be lifted when transporting. The hitch rod spring "J," is provided to maintain,constant pressure on the rear bottom to prevent the rear end of the plow from raising up when hard plowing conditions are encountered. The amount of pressure that is applied on the rear of the plow is determined by the setting of the collar "K." NOTE: In normal plowing, the two hexagon nuts should be adjusted so that.there is about one inch space between the nuts "H" and the hitch rod guide "I," Figure 18. This assembly is also available for the Nos. 44A and 44AH as extra equipment. NOTE: When used on the Nos. 44A and 44AH, the two hexagon nuts on the rear end of the hitch rod must be removed. Fifure 19-Leuera and Ratchet Levers for 44 and 44A. The master lever and leveling lever are provided for controlling the depth and leveling the plow bottoms when in working position. The leveling lever regulates the depth of the front bottom in relation to the rear. The master lever controls the working depth of both bottoms together. Therefore, when opening up a new land it is usually necessary to raise the leveling lever to get sufficient depth on the front bottom and then using it only for releveling the frame. The levers can be adjusted for length. NOTE: If the levers are too long, when crossing deep furrows or ditches, they may interfere with the operator or damage the seat.

5 SETTING-UP 33 Bolt upper pulley bearing assembly to tractor as shown at "B," Figure 4 7. Screw stud brace adjuster to stud brace and attach to outside of upper pulley bearing assembly as shown in Figure 47 for "A" or "G" Tractors, and on inside for "B" Tractor. Attach spring and chain as shown in Figure 47, leaving enough slack in chain so clutch will not release in ordinary plowing conditions. CAUTION: It may be necessary to lengthen clutch lever connecting rod on tractor by adjustment at "A," Figure 48, so that when clutch is released, the clutch lever will not strike tractor operator on the knee, see Figure 48. For the most efficient operation of the tractor clutch release, check the tractor clutch to make certain it is functioning properly.
