7 i. Roll the baler through by hand checking the feeder finger-to-plunger timing and, needle-to-plunger timing Balers a. Be sure the crankshaft is positioned through the pickup drive gear chain and the R.H. bearing locking collar has - been slid on the crankshaft before the crank is positioned through the R.H. bearing. b. Install the washers and packer drive gear before the gear box is aligned with the mounting holes. 1. Washers c. Install and torque the gear box mounting bolts. Tighten the R.H. bearing locking collar in the direction of crankshaft rotation. Swing the hitch strap in position and install the bolts. d. Install the lower pinion gear washers, spacer, and gear. e. Pull the lower pinion out of mesh with the drive gear, turn the gear to line up the keyways and push in the gib key. f. Keeping the pinion out of mesh, turn the crank until the marked teeth on the gear line up. Secure the lower bearing to the bracket. 1. Bearing retainer 2. Washers 3. Spacer 4. Gear 5. Key g. Check backlash and tooth contact pattern between the lower pinions and the drive gear. The specified backlash is.olo-.070-inches. Check in three places around the gear. Adjustment of the backlash is made by changing spacers behind the drive gear. Adjustment of approximate toe-to-toe alignment is made by changing washers behind the pinion. 3-21

The needle "V" must line up with the last set of wire guides. Generally speaking, ~y grooves over half the depth of the wire will cause trouble. The wire should be covered with a coating of oil and be free from rust and corrosion. Waste drain oil is satisfactory. Dry wire or rusty wire wears grooves quickly even in the stellite parts. 1.
