2 ASSEMBLY Yur new Re Lawn Skiff cmes cmpletely assembled except fr installatin f the steering wheel. A_ Remve unit frm cartn. B. Install steering wheel n steering shft and secure with ne Rll Pin, Part N. 9. BEFORE YOU START There is NO OIL in the crankcase f the engine when shipped frm the factry. OIL... Use a gd grde f regular il. The engine il weights listed belw are recmmended by the engine manufacturer and must be fllwed fr best perfrmance and lng life. Abve Use S.A.E. 0W Belw Use S.A.E. low Check il level every 5 hurs f perating time r each time equipment is used. Change il every 5 perating hurs r sner if equipment is perated in extremely dusty r dirty cnditins. Read engine manual and fllw all instructins pertaining t prper maintenance specified. The engine is the heart f yur riding mwer and it is very imprtant that yu keep it in gd cnditin. Befre draining il frm the engine push dwn n the clutch pedal. This will allw the clutch idler bar t extend thrugh the slt in the rear f the unit. A blt r screwdriver shuld be put thrugh the hle in the bar t keep it frm ging back. This will allw il t flw unrestricted int a can r pail. Befre mwing, the mwer shuld be perated at a slw speed t check all mving parts fr any damage r lseness caused in shipping. Lubricate all grease fittings with a regular pressure gun lubricant every eight r ten hurs f peratin. Refer t Figure VIII fr lcatin f grease fittings. A light machine il shuld be used n all mving parts. The transmissin has been packed at the factry with special lubricant and shuld need n further attentin. The mwer gear bxes have been lubricated at the factry. The spindles are munted in precisin needle bearings and will run fr lng perids, withut relubricatin. Under average cnditins, seasnal lubricatin at the beginning f the mwing seasn is all that is required. T relubricate, lwer mwer and place the frnt end f the rider n a bx fr greater clearance. Use a regular Wheel Hrse grease gun t lubricate the grease fittings an the tp f spindles after remving access plug. A small amunt f grease shuld be added with the gun lifted ff the spindle fitting t lubricate the gears. BATTERY The battery installed in the Mdel - (Electric) Lawn Skiff is a dry charge battery. It is imprtant that yu prperly prepare this battery t insure gd service and lng life.. Remve vent caps. Remve r destry any sealing device which may have been used t clse r restrict the vent penings_. Fill each cell f the battery t tp f ring with battery electrlyte. NOTE: Temperature f battery and electrlyte at time f filling shuld be abve 0 0 F. Remve battery t fill, as the acid electrlyte may damage the surface f the Lawn Skiff if spilled.. Bst charge: 5 amps. fr 0 minutes r 7 amps. fr 0 minutes. Adjust electrlyte level, if necessary, after charge. -. Install battery with battery pst tward the engine. After battery has been in service, add nly distilled water. Nte: D Nt Add Acid. 5. If battery requires recharging after initial bst charge, slw charge at t amps. TIRES The tires are pneumatic and shuld be inflted t 8 t 0 punds f ir pressure. STARTING ENGINE I. Befre starting the engine fill gas tnk (lcated n the engine) with a gd grade f regular gas. See Figure VIII.. Engage parking brke.. Make sure mwer clutch is disengaged.. Mve thrttle lever t chke psitin. 5. A. The electric mdel has a key starter-switch. Turn key all the way t the right t start engine.. B. The recil mdel has a recil starter with a chke psitin n the thrttle cntrl. (NOTE: Keep feet clear f mwer while pulling recil starter.) Mve t chke psitin - pull recil ul. 7. When engine starts, mve thrttle cntrl ff chke and t the desired engine speed. CLUTCHING AND REVERSING The pedal at the left hand side f the steering clumn serves as bth the clutch and reverse cntrl. fhe transmissin is disengaged frm the engine by depressing the pedal slightly ver halfway dwn. At this pint the transmissin can be shifted int the high r lw range. With the transmissin in either range the directin f travel can be reversed when the pedal is firmly depressed. The travel speed in reverse is ne-half the travel speed frward in either range. BRAKES T set the brake fr parking, step n brke and flip the parking brake lever up lill it engages the brake arm (see Figure ). Shift cntrl must be in gear fr brake t functin. Figure I CARE OF THE LAWN SKIFF I. Keep Lawn Skiff greased and iled regularly. Refer t Figure VIII fr lcatin f grease fittings.. Keep engine air cleaner clean. This will add t engine life.. Keep tires prperly inflated. See instructins n tires.

3 . Keep Lawn Skiff cvered and in dry place when nt in use. S. Keep grss and dirt ut f engine cwling as this will stp the flw f air and decrease engine life.. When replacing belts make sure all pulleys are in line. 7. BaHery: Check liquid after every 0 hurs f use. If Lawn Skiff has been in strage it may be necessary t recharge. Remve fr winter strage. 8. Yur Lawn Skiff is nly as gd as the serv ice yu give it. See yur Re Dealer fr a thrugh check up after each seasn f use. 9. When replacing belts be sure t purchase genuine Wheel Hrse belts, as these belts are specifically designed fr each applicatin. (NOTE: Make sure all pulleys are prperly aligned.) 0. The seat has three () pssible seat psitins prvided by the five hles in the seat supprt. MOWER HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT Different cutting heights can be btained by pulling the heights adjusting lever and maving it up r dwn t the desired ntch. (See Figure II.) Nte: The mwer must be in the "up" psitin befre any adjustments can be made.. With the pedals in neutral as in step N., check the adjustment f the clutch cntrl rd and Figure III trunnin (Fig. III) t make sure the transmissin is in neutral. Prper adjustment is btained when bth the frward and reverse belts are free frm the idler pulley. Adjustment is made at the trunnin and rd. (Fig. III). Adjust brke rd and trunnin at brke pedal end s return spring is nearly cmpressed slid. (See Figure IV.) Figure IV Figure II MOWER BELT ADJUSTMENT If mwer blades slw dwn r stp and engine cntinues t run when mwing heavy grass, check tensin f lng twisted belt. This belt is tensined by ad justing the nut at the frnt end f the bar adjacent and parallel t the belt. D nt put mre tensin n belt than necessary as excess tensin will lead t premature belt and bearing failure. Make sure that the wire fingers retaining the belt n the engine reverse pulley are as clse t the belt as permissible withut rubbing with idler in the engaged psitin. The mwer will perate mst efficiently when the frnt f the mwer is tipped dwn slightly. The tips f the blades at the frnt shuld be abut )/a" belw the tips f the blades at the rear. The height can be adjusted by first remving the hairpin ctter Part N and clevis pin, Part N then turning the yke with the blt enclsed in r ut f the threaded trunnin. See Mwer Explded View Drawing Items N. and 50. FORWARD-REVERSE AND BRAKE PEDAL ADJUSTMENT The pedal is adjusted at the factry but shuld yu need t readjust, prceed as fllws:. Put parking brke n with catch in place (see Figure I).. Adjust screw in tractin pedal extensin t dimensin shwn. (See Figure I.) - Figure V S. Adjust the rear nut n the brake rd (Fig. V) until the brke band is tight n the brake drum. Adjust the frnt lck nut fr clearance as shawn (Y." t %") in Fig. V.. Release parking brake lever and try the brakes while in mtin. When the brke pedal is depressed it in turn pushes the frward reverse pedal t neutral. MOWER GEAR CLEARANCE ADJUSTMENT The prper gear clearance has been pre-set at the factry, and it shuld nt require any adjusting. When replacing a gear r verhauling the unit, the fllwing prcedure shauld be fllwed fr prper gear clearance:

Adjust nut with.00" shim placed between the lck nut and cupling until clearance between face gears and spur gears has been remved. (See Figure VI and VII.) If a feeler gage is nt available the.00 clear. ance can be btained by lining up a flat r crner f the nut with the spirl pin and back ff three cr. ners r three flats, this will equal apprximately.00.. Remve the.00" shim and prvide equal tth clearance at bth set f gears by tapping n each face gear until the adjusting nut is flush with the cupling. There shuld be n clearance between the adjusting nut and the cupling.. Check fr prper amunt f grease and re place gear cvers. Use apprximately y, lb. American Oil C. "Super Permalube" grease r equivalent fr each gear set. MOWER REMOVAL T remve the mwer frm the rider pro'=ccd as fllws: I. Pull the lift rd pin (Item N. 5 n mwer drawing).. Remve the clevis pin (Item N. 50) frm the yke.. Lsen the mwer belt, remve belt, and be lt tightener.. Preparatin fr peratin and perating hints listed belw are recmmended fr all mwers and apprved by the Outdr Pwer Institute fr safe peratin f yur mw er.. Befre mwing, clear the entire lawn area t be mwed f all debris that culd catch n r be thrwn by the blades.. When yu mw n rugh terrain r in high grass r weeds. the mwer shuld be set at the high. est cutting pint. In tall grass r weeds, a secnd cut ting may be made t bring the grass dwn t the de sired height. Adiust cutting height by raising and lw ering wheels n mwer.. Mwers d nt perate well in wet grss. Wet grss has a tendency t build up n mwer husing and give nn unifrm discharge.. Fill gas tank utdrs. Avid spilling gas line and D Nt fill the tank while engine is running r while yu are smking. S. While mwing, give undivided attentin t the ib at hand. keep the cutting path in area f FOR SAFE OPERATION peratin clear f all persns, particularly small chil dren.. If yur lawn Skiff is t be used fr purpses ther than mwing place mwer clutch in disengaged psitin, stp engine. and remve the belt in the bt tm grve f the engine pulley.
