WARNING: The EP12M248 charger is designed t charge 12V lead-acid batteries frm 6Ah t 160Ah and maintain batteries up t 200Ah.. Check battery manufacturer specificatins befre using this charger. When wrking with a lead-acid battery, remve persnal metal items such as rings, bracelets, necklaces, watch D nt smke r allw a spark r flame while charging. MAINTENANCE: The case shuld be cleaned ccasinally. Discnnect frm the pwer while cleaning. In the event it is wired t recharge a larger than recmmended battery, charger will stp charging after maximum stage recmmended time and the RED LED will be FLASH slwly. Input pwer draw in ECO mde is less than 1.5W (0.04kWh per day). Pwer cnsumptin in maintenance mde is 0.05kWh per day. CHARGING INSTRUCTIONS: STEP 1 - Pre Charge: Battery & Electrlyte Level Check Check the battery electrlyte level (Only fr Flded r WET battery). If necessary, remve the vent caps and add distilled water s the levels are halfway between the upper and lwer fill lines. STEP 2 - Cnnect Charger t Battery If the battery is ut f the vehicle: Cnnect the Red lead frm the charger t the psitive (+) battery terminal. Cnnect the Black lead frm the charger t the negative (-) battery terminal. If battery is still in the vehicle, determine if the vehicle is psitively r negatively earthed. If Negatively earthed (Mst Cmmn) First cnnect the Red (+) battery charger lead t the Psitive (+) battery pst and then cnnect the Black (-) battery charger lead t the vehicle s chassis and away frm the fuel line. If Psitively earthed First cnnect the Black (-) battery charger lead t the Negative (-) battery pst and then cnnect the Red (+) battery charger lead t the Vehicle s chassis and far away frm the fuel line. STEP 3 Cnnect Charger t Pwer (115Vac / 230Vac) Cnnect the battery charger t AC mains pwered scket. The Charger will autmatically start when AC pwer is cnnected and switched n. (Nte: If the Fault Indicatr LED illuminates Red, please check yur cnnectins as it s likely that the Psitive and Negative leads are reversed. Refer t Truble Shting page fr further infrmatin) 5

6 STEP 4 Discnnect Charger frm Battery If the battery is ut f the vehicle: Switch OFF and remve the AC pwer scket frm the utlet. Remve the black lead and then the red lead. Check electrlyte levels if pssible. (As they may need tpping up with distilled water after charging) If the battery is in the vehicle: Switch OFF and remve the AC pwer scket frm the utlet. Remve the lead frm the vehicle chassis. Remve the lead frm the battery. Check electrlyte levels if pssible. (As they may need tpping up with distilled water after charging) THE CHARGING PROCESS: The charging stages and perfrmance are as fllws: Battery initial cnditin check After all cnnectins are made, the charger will autmatically diagnse battery cnditin. If battery vltage is abve 9V, charger will g int sft start stage. Otherwise, charger will g int desulphatin mde. If the battery vltage des nt exceed 9V after 6 hurs f rejuvenatin, yu will need t discnnect the battery and check its cnditin, vltage rating r if it is cnnected t a lad while charging. Smart Charging Stages Desulphatin: 20% charging LED: ON. Engage high peak pulse fr deep-discharge r sulphated battery disslve the lead sulphated crystal bring the electrlyte fluid t well-distributed state The battery vltage will increase slwly. Sft start: 20% charging LED: ON. The battery vltage will increase slwly. Bulk : 80% charging LED: ON. The battery can be charged abut 80%. The charger delivers an almst cnstant current 2000mA until the battery vltage reaches the set value. Absrptin : 80% charging LED: ON. The battery can charge up t almst 95%. The charging current tapers and the charging vltage are kept cnstant at the set value. Test Mde The charging is interrupted fr a shrt perid while battery vltage is measured. If the battery vltage falls t quickly, the battery culd be faulty. 6

7 FULL LED: Flashing. Recnditin charging Charger will g int this stage if battery fails Test Mde due t its cnditin, age r being under charged. This stage can recver batteries frm deeply discharged state increasing perfrmance and battery life. FULL LED: Flashing. Flat mde Full LED: ON. The flat mde allws the charger t effectively be left cnnected t yur batteries; it wrks at a safe level and ready fr use. Maintenance mde Full LED: ON. The prgram engages a special charging wavefrm and mnitrs the battery vltage variety, if the battery vltage sinks, the special pulses will keep the battery in ptimal state, if the battery vltage drps even lwer, the battery charger will switch int bulk charging. The maintenance mde allws the charger t be cnnected t the battery ver the curse f a seasn; If pssible, check the electrlyte liquid level in the battery. LED status indicatin table: 7
