Retrofit - Front/rear splash guard BMW 7 Series (E 65 / E 66) Facelift 3/25 Retrofit kit no.: , Installation time The installation time of approx..5 hours per axle can vary depending on the condition and equipment of the vehicle. Important information These installation instructions are mainly intended for use in the BMW dealership network as well as by authorised BMW Service Centres. The target group of these installation instructions are technical personnel trained on BMW vehicles with corresponding technical know-how. All work is to be carried out with the aid of currently valid BMW repair instructions, schematic diagrams, maintenance manuals and working instructions in rational order with the specified tools (special tools) while paying particular attention to valid safety regulations. In order to avoid unnecessary additional expenditure/costs, if any problems regarding installation, assembly or operation are encountered, after spending a little time on attempting to finding the problem (approx..5 hour), an enquiry, including the vehicle identification number, part number of the installed retrofit kit and a detailed description of the problem, should be sent without delay to Technical Support via the Aftersales Assistance Portal (ASAP). Do not archive the printout of these Installation Instructions as daily updates are conducted through ASAP! Refer to ASAP for explanations of the pictographs. All illustrations show LHD vehicles. Carry out the same procedure analogously on RHD vehicles. 2 Installation information The plastic and metal parts on the vehicle adhered to the splash guards must be at a minimum temperature of 5 C when fitting the splash guards. The adhesive joint of the splash guards is carwashproof after 48 hours. The aids necessary for the adhesive joint are workshop material used for window repairs. The adhesion areas are to be cleaned with Sika cleaner. Painting instructions The painting instructions are to be handed over to the paintshop. The splash guards are supplied primer-coated (transparent primer) and it is necessary to paint the outer side in the car colour. Comply with the BMW painting instructions when painting the components. Procedure: The splash guards are made from EPDM. BMW acrylic paint +4% Softface additive. Maximum stove enamelling temperature 6 C. Maximum stove enamelling time: 45 minutes The illustration shows the front left and rear left splash guards. The areas marked in grey on the front and rear splash guards are to be painted in the car colour. The components all feature a clearly identifiable masking line." 65 B BMW AG, München (B/S) 2

5 3. Installing front splash guard Clean the area (3) marked in grey on the side panel () with Sika bonding agent 25/5 and allow to air for 5 minutes. Remove rivets (33) - no longer required. Remove expanding rivet (34) at sill panel - to be reused (replace if necessary) B The side panel (3) and the side sill () must be aligned flush (check with steel straightedge ())." Fold back wheel arch panel (33) if necessary to adjust side panel (3) and undo Torx screw (34). Slide sill () until it is aligned flush with side panel (3) B The side sill panel (3) must be pulled fully outwards when tightening the wheel arch panel () B Carefully pull back cover film (3) of adhesive tape by approx. 3 mm from the painted front splash guard () as illustrated B BMW AG, München (B/S) 5

6 3. Installing front splash guard 3 3 Carefully position painted splash guard () and secure with three expanding rivets (3). Secure the painted splash guard () to the car body with expanding rivet (3) as shown in the magnified view. Fit painted splash guard () against side panel () and carefully pull out cover film () of adhesive tape B 2 3 Max. drilling depth mm to ensure the parts behind the drilling point are not damaged. " Drill Ø 6 mm hole through the opening (3) in the wheel arch panel. Secure painted splash guard () with expanding rivet (2) to wheel arch panel () B After installing the splash guard, once again firmly press down all outer contours and corners. 7 4. Installing rear splash guard 3 Clean the area (3) marked in grey on the rear apron () with Sika bonding agent 25/5 and allow to air for 5 minutes. Remove both hexagon head screws () B Precisely position splash guard () at installation location. Screw down with two recessed cross head screws 4.8x22 mm (3). Transfer openings () and () from splash guard () to the rear apron B Drill 5 mm Ø hole at marked point () in rear apron and debur. Drill 6 mm Ø hole at marked point () in rear apron and debur. Carefully pull back cover film (3) of adhesive tape by approx. 3 mm from the painted rear splash guard () as illustrated B B Carefully position painted splash guard () and screw down with two recessed cross head screws (3). Secure painted splash guard () with expanding rivet (2) and blind rivet () to rear apron. Press painted splash guard () against vehicle and carefully pull out cover film () of adhesive tape. After installing the splash guard, once again firmly press down all outer contours and corners. " BMW AG, München (B/S) 7
