The installation time does not include any time for programming/encoding, as this depends on the age of the car and the equipment in it. Important information These installation instructions are primarily designed for use within the BMW dealership organisation and by authorised BMW service companies. These installation instructions are intended for use by qualified specialist staff trained on BMW vehicles with the relevant expert knowledge. All work must be completed using the latest BMW repair manuals, wiring diagrams, servicing manuals and work instructions, in a rational order, using the prescribed tools (special tools) and observing current health and safety regulations. 2 If you experience installation or function problems, restrict troubleshooting to approx. 0.5 hours for mechanical work and.0 hour for electrical work. To avoid unnecessary extra work and/or costs, send an inquiry straight away to the technical parts support team via the Aftersales Assistance Portal (ASAP). Quote the following information: - Chassis number, - Retrofit kit part number, - A detailed description of the problem, - Any work already carried out. Do not archive the hard copy of these installation instructions since daily updates are provided via ASAP. Pictograms Denotes instructions that draw your attention to dangers.! Installation information - All contact/bonding surfaces on the components being installed must be absolutely dry, clean, and free of wax, silicon and grease. These surfaces must be treated with suitable BMW cleaner of BMW primer (see EPC for details), as set out in the appropriate product application instructions - If you use adhesive tape, it must be applied using a contact pressure of between 0 N/cm2 and 50 N/cm2 - Take care not to damage the parts when opening the packaging - Check that all the parts fit accurately on the car before fitting them - All affected components and their bonding surfaces must be at room temperature for installation. The ideal relative humidity is 50%. Different values will change the specified times - After completing the gluing And installation work, the car must remain stationary at room temperature for at least 2 hours - If adhesives are used the car may be driven after 24 hours, and may be taken through a car wash after 48 hours. The car must not be driven above a speed of v max < 00 km/h for hours - The installed parts may become loose and fly off the car if you fail to wait for the full reaction time of the primer/adhesive. Danger of accidents! - Some of the installation steps are shown only on one side of the car. Proceed in the same way on the other side of the car. - All pictures show LHD cars; proceed accordingly on RHD cars - When the Performance Aerodynamics Package is retrofitted, the fog lights become obsolete - When the Performance Aerodynamics Package is retrofitted to cars with SA 328 aluminium running boards, these become obsolete - Depending on the engine and country version, the arrangement of the air guides must be observed exactly; depending on the arrangement of the existing air guides in the car, certain parts may become superfluous and will no longer be required. - PDC ultrasonic converters must not be painted since this may cause them to fail. 3 Ordering instructions The material such as liquid adhesive, cleaner and activators are assigned to the relevant products in the EPC (see EPC for instructions and part numbers). If the EPC does not explicitly specify the materials, always use cleaner, adhesive and activator from the BMW product range. - On cars with SA 328 aluminium running board section of the left and right side skirt is also required (for part numbers and instructions see EPC). - On cars with SA 54 Adaptive Cruise Control (C), the centre front bumper grille J from the retrofit kit cannot be used. A new centre front bumper grille with C protection must be ordered separately (part number and instructions, see EPC and Performance Aerodynamic Package table). - On cars with SA 508 Park Distance Control, the PDC ultrasonic converters in the car colour must be ordered separately (part numbers and instructions, see EPC and PDC table). 4 Painting instructions PDC ultrasonic converters must not be painted since this may cause them to fail. Check that all the parts fit accurately on the car before painting them. Primed parts must be pre-treated accordingly before painting. 12 7. Installing the front bumper trim M A Primed design only Place sheet metal nut M on left wheel house trim adapter C and screw into place using sheet metal screw L on front bumper trim A. C L V A Place sheet metal nuts M over the holes provided. Push left bumper lower section D laterally into the latching hook () on front bumper trim A. M Place the sheet metal nut (2) removed from the standard part onto the hole provided on front bumper trim A. 2 D V A N Check the part before and after installation to ensure it fits properly. Position left bumper lower section D from the underneath so it fits neatly into the guide () and secure with ovalheaded screw N. D L Secure left bumper lower section D using sheet metal screw L to front bumper trim A V A On cars with SA 54 Adaptive Cruise Control, the suitable centre front bumper grille must be ordered separately (instructions and part number, see EPC). B A V f F A Cars without additional cooling only Depending on the engine and country version, the arrangement of the air ducts in the car must be observed exactly. Install left closed air guide F into front bumper trim A and secure on the lugs () with U-clips K. K V G Cars with additional cooling only Depending on the engine and country version, the arrangement of the air guides in the car must be observed exactly. The fastening material and gaskets () on the existing air guide may be reused. 2 2 Push the removed gaskets () onto left additional cooler air guide G. 14 7. Installing the front bumper trim Install left brake air duct I using the existing fastening material (). I V Depending on the engine and country version, the arrangement of the air ducts in the car must be observed exactly. Install left additional cooler air guide G using the removed fastening material as per ISTA No G V Tie the cables for the fog lights () to a suitable point using the cable ties (2) V 3 Draw on a marking line () at a distance of a = 30 mm from the embossed areas (3) on the existing engine compartment shielding (2) using a suitable tool. a a V BMW AG, München /206 (V/Z) 4

Installing the front bumper trim H 4 3 Place engine compartment shielding adapter H flush with the marking line made previously () on the existing engine compartment shielding (2) and draw in the outline (3) using a suitable tool. Transfer the hole pattern (4) to the engine compartment shielding (2) V 5 Draw the cutting outline (5) at a distance of b = 20 mm from the previously drawn-in outline (3), as shown in the picture. 3 2 b Cut the engine compartment shielding (2) along the cutting outline (5). Drill the transferred hole pattern using a 6 mm diameter drill bit V /O Place the existing C-clip nut () and C-clip nuts O from the parts kit on engine compartment shielding adapter H. H O V R 2 S Position sheet strips S as shown on engine compartment shielding (2). Secure quick-release screw R with securing washer Q and (). /Q S V BMW AG, München /206 (V/Z) 5

16 7. Installing the front bumper trim P/Q Run quick-release screws P, as shown, through the holes in the engine compartment shielding (2) and secure with securing washers Q. Check the area () for any possible collision between the coolant hose and quick-release screws P and possibly omit one of the three quickrelease screws P. P 2 Q V A Q Run quick-release screws P through the holes in front bumper trim A and secure in place with securing washers Q. Fit engine compartment shielding adapter H onto front bumper trim A. Refit on cars with SA 508 PDC ultrasonic converters. H P V Refit on cars with SA 5DK Side View Camera. Align front bumper trim A on the car and fit as per ISTA No BMW AG, München /206 (V/Z) 6

17 8. Installing the side skirt, primed version Place sheet metal nuts AL on the holes provided () on left side skirt attachment. AL V 2 AE AF Wait for the flash-off time of the primer. Cleaner AE and primer AF are used for this and the next steps on side skirt attachment AA and side skirt attachment. Cover up side skirt cover AA above the polished bonding surface () with masking tape (2). AA Clean the bonding surface () with cleaner AE and then treat with primer AF. Remove the masking tape (2) after the primer's ventilation time V AE AF Clean the bonding surfaces () of side skirt attachment with cleaner AE and treat with primer AF V BMW AG, München /206 (V/Z) 7

18 8. Installing the side skirt, primed version AJ V Apply adhesive strip AJ to side skirt attachment and cut out at the guide pins (). Remove the protective backing film () so that a small lug forms V AA Align side skirt attachment squarely with side skirt cover AA without removing the protective backing film and secure with expanding rivet AH. 19 8. Installing the side skirt, primed version AA Secure side skirt attachment with oval-headed screw AG to side skirt cover AA. AG V AA AA Press side skirt attachment numerous times onto side skirt cover AA. Gradually remove the protective backing film () and again press side skirt attachment onto side skirt cover AA repeatedly on both sides V AI AA Tighten oval-headed screw AG. Place clip AI on the mounts provided for side skirt cover AA V AA Place securing ring AK on the guide pins. Install side skit cover AA on car as described in ISTA No AK V BMW AG, München /206 (V/Z) 9

20 9. Installing the X6 M side skirt AE Clean X6 M side skirt cover AM after painting in the same colour as the car with cleaner AE. AM V Remove the protective backing film () so that a small lug forms V AM Align side skirt cover squarely with X6 M side skirt cover AM without removing the protective backing film and secure with expanding rivet AH. AH AM V Secure side skirt attachment with oval-headed screw AG to X6 M side skirt cover AM. A G V BMW AG, München /206 (V/Z) 20

21 9. Installing the X6 M side skirt AM AM Press side skirt attachment numerous times onto X6 M side skirt cover AM. Gradually remove the protective backing film () and again press side skirt attachment onto X6 M side skirt cover AM repeatedly on both sides V AI AM Tighten oval-headed screw AG. Place clip AI on the mounts provided of X6 M side skirt cover AM V AM Place securing ring AK on the guide pins. Fit X6 M side skirt cover AM onto the car as per ISTA No AK V BMW AG, München /206 (V/Z) 2

23 . Installing the rear bumper trim On cars without SA 235 trailer tow hitch, the existing foam insert must be removed from the bumper support. Remove the foam insert () as it is no longer needed V Secure the PDC cabling () to the rear bumper support using cable ties V 2 During installation, the edges cut at an angle () of retaining bracket BF point towards the exterior of the vehicle (left side shown enlarged). Tighten the screws by hand; do not use a power screwdriver. Place retaining bracket BF on the rounding (2) of the car and screw into place with Philips head screws BD. BD BF V BA Refit the PDC ultrasonic converter as described in ISTA No Clip bottom rear bumper trim BA to the rear bumper trim and secure with blind rivet T. T V BMW AG, München /206 (V/Z) 23

24 . Installing the rear bumper trim On both sides, clip U-clips K on the inside of bottom rear bumper trim BA. K BA V BB Connect removed sheet metal nut () and C-clip nut (2) to bottom rear bumper trim BB V BA Clip bottom rear bumper trim finisher BB into bottom rear bumper trim BA. Secure from the inside out with removed hexagon screws () as per ISTA No BB V L Fit bottom rear bumper trim BB using removed hexagon screws () and sheet metal screws L as per ISTA No BB V BMW AG, München /206 (V/Z) 24

Concluding work and coding The retrofit system requires coding. - Connect the battery - Conduct a brief test - Remove the light control unit as described in ISTA No Disconnect, insulate and tie back ge/ws wire PIN 7 (NSW dashboard signal) on the light control unit. Install the light control unit as described in ISTA No Carry out the NSW coding (deactivate fog lights) - Conduct a function test - Re-assemble the car - Install the number plate as described in ISTA No BMW AG, München /206 (V/Z) 27
