Thi i achieved by puhing the pigot into the centre of the body to a ufficient length a to allow for the mot common expanion condition. Thi variation in length and the relevant expanion rate can be calculated uing the following formula: Δl = x l x Δt Δl i the variation in length (mm) i the initial pipe length (m) l i the linear expanion coefficient mm = 0.20mm m C Δt i the difference between the higher and lower working temperature ( C). There i coniderable difference, with regard to drainage ytem, and the temperature of fluid conveyed within the pipeline. For example, identical pipe can be ued for the outflow of hot water from dihwaher or other appliance or an outdoor rain pipe. In the firt intance, temperature fluctuation along the pipeline may only occur between -0 C in winter to 35 C in ummer. owever, in the econd following example the cae of the pipe may be ubjected to increaed temperature of 70 C and over a it drain hot water away. The difference in working temperature of a DPE pipe highlight the importance of calculating the expanion rate of the pipeline to enure the product perform at it optimum level Note: Where Δl i negative, contraction of the pipeline will occur Calculation example. Taking into conideration that vertical wate pipe are never completely full, the poor heat conductibility of DPE, relatively hort drainage time and the contant circulation of air within the pipeline, it can be aumed that the working temperature could be 0 to 20 C lower than the actual calculated value. 55

57 Tranport, torage and handling Incorrect handling of any product during tranportation and torage can have detrimental effect on it performance. DPE i a very reilient material. owever, a with mot ytem, care and attention i required at all tage of torage and handling to enure optimum intallation performance of the DPE wate pipe and fitting. In tranportation, the pipe hould be laid flat wherever poible to prevent alteration or tre along the pipeline. Suitable ditance hould be given when the pipe are tored to prevent any ditortion. Dragging, throwing or cratching the pipe and fitting hould be avoided and protection hould be provided where tying down of the load will occur. Once on-ite, care mut be taken to minimie any weight tree that could be placed on the product by laying heavy object on top of it. Ring eal within the ocket can be prone to damage from dirt, gravel or mud, o a clean torage area i advied. To avoid deformation of the pipe and fitting over a long period of time, they mut be placed on a flat urface and not leant againt a olid tructure (i.e. a wall). When tacking the pipe for an extended amount of time, a maximum height of.7m hould not be exceeded, whatever the diameter of the pipe. Pipe hould not be expoed to prolonged period of unhine (more than 8 month) during open torage. DPE upport and movement DPE pipe are ubject to expanion when placed under temperature tre. Where Δt value are high, very long ection of pipe (mot commonly viible overhead pipe) cannot be ued without preventative meaure in place to alleviate tre and deformation of the pipeline. To reduce expanion, the value in the previou quotation hould be reduced. owever, thi may not be permiible due to: The expanion coefficient of a particular material cannot be reduced The Δt value are difficult to modify a it take into account objective thermal condition which are cloely connected to ue and laying condition. For example, it can be reduced in the cae of a rain pipe which i embedded within the wall, rather than fitted to the outide Therefore, the only value that can be changed i the length of the pipe. To protect againt the pread of moke and ga within the firt few minute the remaining gap between the platic pipe and the opening mut be ealed on one ide of the wall uing an appropriate ealing agent. 7. Fixing the anchoring hook The anchoring hook can be applied to variou point of the collar metal tructure, enabling the anchoring point to be poitioned in line with the pace available. To enure optimum performance, the hook mut be placed a ymmetrically a poible. 8. Cloing the fire collar No tool, pin, or crew are required to lock the collar in place. Simply poition the fire collar around the platic pipe and pre firmly to tighten the cloing device until the mechanim nap into place. Enure the collar i poitioned correctly to enable the anchoring hook to be fixed. 9. ocking the fire collar The fire collar can only protect againt fire if it i adequately fixed in place. Receed intallation Enuring that the hole i ufficiently wide enough to accommodate the external diameter of the fire collar, inert the fire collar into the opening. The fire collar mut be intalled fluh with the lower urface when intalled at ceiling level. 66 Terrain FUZE Jointing Method Intallation - Firetrap leeve To maintain the fire rated compartment between floor level where DPE penetrate the lab, an inulated fire leeve hall be intalled. The fire leeve hall be intalled through the entire lab penetration. Where poible a maximum of 25mm of leeve can be left protruding out of the lab both at floor level and the underide of the lab. If, due to low level connection at lab level, thi method i not poible then two alternative method can be ued;. Maintain the 25mm protruion but callop out the leeve locally to accommodate the low level connection For Unintalled Pipe Step One: Cut leeve to required length i.e. penetration thickne plu 50mm to allow for 25mm to protrude either ide of the penetration 2. Cut the leeve fluh with the lab/offit level Where poible the leeve hall be intalled by liding over the pipe to be protected prior to intallation and once the pipe i intalled the leeve hall be lid in to it finih poition.
