1 PEDESTRIAN HEAD PROTECTION PERFORMANCE TEST PROCEDURE 1. Sope This test proeure pplies to the Peestrin He Protetion Performne Test of pssenger vehiles with 9 oupnts or less n ommeril vehiles with gross vehile mss of 2.8 tons or less onute y the Ntionl Ageny for Automotive Sfety n Vitims Ai (hereinfter referre to s the NASVA ) in the new r ssessment progrm informtion supply projet. 2. Definition of Terms The terms use in this testing metho re efine s follows: (1) Groun referene plne mens horizontl plne, either rel or imginry, tht psses through the lowest points of ontt for ll tires of vehile while the vehile is in its norml rie ttitue. (2) A-pillr mens the foremost n outermost roof support extening from the hssis to the roof of the vehile. (3) Heform imptor mens the moel simulting the humn he (see Atthment 1). (4) Wrp Aroun Distne (WAD) mens the shortest geometri tre esrie on the outer surfe of the vehile front struture y one en of flexile tpe when it is hel in vertil longituinl plne of the vehile n trverse ross the front struture. Testing Conitions 3.1 Conitions of Test Vehile Provision of Dt from Vehile Mnufturer n Importer The vehile mnufturer n importer shll provie the NASVA with the following t neessry for prepring the test vehile properly: (1) Dt speifie in the Appenix 1 (2) Speil onfirmtion items relting to preprtion of the test Mss of Test Vehile The mss of the test vehile shll e juste etween 100% n 101% of the mss of the test vehile when rought in* without instlling the mss on the river s set n the front pssenger set (set prllel to the river s set n situte jent to the sie fe of the vehile; hereinfter the sme). However, this shll not pply if the mss of the vehile nnot e juste to this rnge fter removing prts tht will not ffet the test. When the vehile is equippe with spre tire n tools, it is permitte to test the vehile s it is. * Mss of the test vehile when rought in: The test institute shll mesure the mss of the vehile reeive fter filling with every liqui exept fuel to the mximum within speifie rnge n filling with the fuel to 100% of the fuel tnk pity. This mss is referre to s the mss of test vehile when rought in Vehile Posture Vehile posture is efine s follows: (1) The vehile posture of the test vehile shll e the onition when the vehile is rought in; however, if the test vehile is equippe with height justing evie, it shll e juste to the position speifie for the trveling spee of 44 km/h. If the vehile is equippe with mnul height justing evie, the vehile shll e set to the stnr position. (2) In rsh with peestrin, if the vehile is equippe with rsh energy reution evie for peestrin he protetion, n if the vehile mnufturer n importer n provie goo enough informtion to prove tht the evie n tivte n finish its opertion efore the peestrin s he ontts the front surfe of the vehile, it shll e set

3 to the evie-operte stte. (3) The sme mss s the Hyri III ummy hving mss equivlent to the 50th perentile ult mle (75 kg) shll e instlle on the enter surfe of the river s n front pssenger sets. The ummy shll omply with the stipultions provie in Title 49, Prt 572, Suprt E of CFR (Coe of Feerl Regultions) s mene in the Feerl Register No. 63 te Ferury 4, (4) The front wheels shll e set to the stright-trveling stte. The iretion of the vertil ross setion of the vehile must e within ±2 with respet to the iretion of projetion of the imptor. (5) If the test is onute fter the sie ollision test, the vehile posture (fore-n-ft, right n left iretion) shll e mesure efore the sie ollision test, euse it will e ssume tht one nnot o justments (1) to (3). The test my e onute within the tolerne of ±0.1 for the vehile postures of the fore-n-ft iretion n right n left iretion. (6) If the set is remove from the test vehile to onut the nek injury protetion performne test in the rer-en ollision, the vehile posture shll e mesure eforehn while the test vehile is mrke n then the test shll e onute with the set remove n the weight, et. loe, n reprouing the sme posture s tht when the vehile ws mrke. If the onnet top surfe is inline t 50 n the stright ege omes into ontt with the front sie of the vehile t two points or more t the sme time (se of Figure 3.1 (3)), the rerwr inlining ngle of the stright ege shll e fixe t 40. When the stright ege omes in ontt with the umper (se of Figure 3.1 (5)), the umper shll e ssume to e sent. (2) Mrk the ontt point etween the stright ege n the onnet. (3) When the stright ege s lower en omes into ontt with the onnet first (se of Figure 3.1 (2)), mrk tht ontt point first. (4) When the stright ege s upper en omes into ontt with the onnet first (se of Fig. 3.1 (4)), use the tre of WAD 1,000 mm. (5) Remove the stright ege from the onnet n then move the stright ege long the ross setion of the onnet without istning it more thn 100 mm from the onnet. Then ontt the onnet gin n mrk the ontt point. (6) Repet steps (1) to (5) over the full with of the onnet. Using flexile ruler, et., rw line onneting the mrks on the onnet. (2) Among the ontt points etween the stright ege n sie of the onnet, mrk the one tht is situte t the highest position.

7 (3) Remove the stright ege from the onnet n then move it towr the front or rer sie of the vehile without istning it more thn 100 mm from the onnet. Bring the stright ege into ontt with the onnet gin n then mrk the ontt point situte t the highest position. (4) Move the stright ege from the onnet to the A-pillr n roof (until WAD 2,100 mm is rehe) n then repet steps (1) to (3), ignoring the fener mirror, oor mirror, n ntenn. Using flexile ruler, rw line onneting the mrks on the onnet. This line eomes the onnet sie referene line. In this se, if the sie referene line oes not ontinue, oth suh ens shll e onnete on the vehile longituinl iretion. Bring it into ontt with the roof (or winshiel) while mintining it prllel to the lterl vertil ross setion of the vehile. (2) Mrk the lowest point where the stright ege ontts the roof. (3) Remove the stright ege from the roof n then move it long the onnet s ross setion without istning it more thn 100 mm from the onnet. Bring it in ontt with the onnet gin n then mrk the ontt point. (4) Repet steps (1) to (3) over the full with of the roof, ignoring the ntenn or the like. Using flexile ruler, et., rw line onneting the mrks on the roof. 8 Winshiel Lower En Imptor Contt Line (1) Ple heform imptor (or ll of 165 mm in imeter) so tht it omes into ontt with the onnet (or front pnel) n winshiel (or A-pillr), ignoring wiper prts, plsti grnishes (exept those unifie with the onnet pnel), et. Mrk the ontt point etween the heform imptor n the winshiel. (2) Mrk the ontt point etween the heform imptor n the winshiel. (3) Remove the heform imptor from the winshiel n then move it long the ross setion of the winshiel without istning it more thn 100 mm from the winshiel. Arrnge the heform imptor so tht it omes into ontt with the onnet n winshiel gin, n then mrk the ontt point. (4) Repet steps (1) to (3) etween the onnet sie referene line on the right n left sie, ignoring wiper prts n resin grnishes (exept those unifie with the onnet pnel). Using flexile ruler, rw line onneting the mrks on the winshiel. This line eomes the winshiel imptor lower en ontt line. (3) Mrk points on the onnet, winshiel, A-pillr or roof, eh orresponing to WAD of 1,000 mm, 1,350 mm, 1,700 mm n 2,100 mm. Throughout this opertion, mintin the other en of the tpe mesure in ontt with the onnet top, winshiel, A-pillr, or roof (while mintining the tension).

Eh of these lines represents the wrp-roun line Front Test Line The wrp-roun line of 1,000 mm is use s the front test line Rer Test Line (1) Selet the wrp-roun line of 2,100 mm or the winshiel rer referene line, whihever is in front of the other. (2) Mesure the selete line s height from the tum plne in the ross setion tht psses through the enter of the vehile. If the height is less thn 1,900 mm, this selete line eomes the rer test line. () Mesure the stright-line istne etween the right n left intersetions of the wrp-roun line of 1,000 mm n sie test line (mesurement shoul e tken not long the ontour of the onnet ut on the istne in the rosswise iretion of the vehile). (3) From the viewpoint of test reliility, onnet impt point shll not e selete from n re within 82.5 mm from the sie test line (in stright-line istne up to the perpeniulr line orthogonl to the enterline of the vehile). (4) Wires n suh my e tthe to the heform imptor in orer to protet it from mge s long s verse effets on the test re minimize Temperture Conitions The mient tempertures of the test vehile, testing equipment, n heform imptor uring the test must e kept t 20 ± 4 C. Also, the heform imptor use for the test must e mintine in this temperture environment for t lest four hours prior to the test. 4. Testing Filities n Others 4.1 Impt Genertor The impt genertor shll e ple of propelling the ult heform imptor (weighing 4.5 kg) n hil heform imptor (weighting 3.5 kg) in free flight to the front surfe of the test vehile t ny ngle n t spee of 35.0 ± 0.7 km/h. 4.2 Spee Mesuring Devie The spee mesuring evie shll e ple of mesuring the heform imptor spee just efore impting the front of the vehile with n ury of 0.1 km/h. 4.3 High-spee Photogrphy Devie The photogrphing spee of the high-spee photogrphy evie shll e set t 1,000 frmes/seon or fster n the shutter spee shll e set 1/5,000 seon or fster. 4.4 Temperture n Humiity Mesuring Devie The minimum sle vlues of the temperture initor n the hygrometer use shll e 0.1 C n 1%, respetively. 4.5 Eletri Mesuring Devie Aury n Frequeny Chrteristi The mesuring evie shll omply with the requirements of ISO 6487:2002 * uner the onition in whih ll the evies etween the onstituent evies

Testing Metho 5.1 Speifying the Bonnet Effetive Angle (1) Rer en of onnet At the fore-n-ft setion pssing through the enter of the vehile, when the heform imptor ontte oth the onnet (or front pnel) n winshiel, this heform imptor ontt point on the onnet is lle the onnet rer en.
