O O I General Applications The enclosed switches are suitable for power distribution in factories and buildings, as local motor iso la tors and as main switches in equipment in various applications.

In addition they are light and easy to install and handle. Steel sheet The steel sheet enclosures are hot dip galvanised and the surface is polyester powder painted.

4 O O I General Applications The enclosed switches are suitable for power distribution in factories and buildings, as local motor iso la tors and as main switches in equipment in various applications. Description of the different box materials OFF I N O OFF N O Plastic The plastic enclosures are most suitable for locations with high chemical and moisture requirements. In addition they are light and easy to install and handle. Steel sheet The steel sheet enclosures are hot dip galvanised and the surface is polyester powder painted. The enclosures are durable and robust for most environments. Main switch requirements The ABB enclosed switches fulfill the requirements for main switches. Each incoming supply shall be provided with a hand-operated main switchdisconnector according to the Machine Directive EN The main switch disconnector shall reliably isolate the electrical equipment from the supply and the position indication must be reliable even in case of welded contacts. Isolation features shall exceed the requirements of standard IEC in the place of installation (Uimp > 6 or 8 kv) and cover opening of the electrical cabinet shall only be authorised when the electrical equipment is isolated. The switch shall also be possible to padlock in the OFF position. Aluminium alloy The painted aluminium alloy boxes are superior for harsh enviroment and they have a very high 4

Switches in plastic enclosure Easy to install The plastic enclosures are easy to install as they all have knock-out cable entries for cable glands or flanges.

6 Switches in plastic enclosure Easy to install The plastic enclosures are easy to install as they all have knock-out cable entries for cable glands or flanges. The side operated boxes also include sealing plugs, the front operated 16 Amp switch include pull stoppers for two rubber cables and two membrane cable glands. The 25 to 63 Amp switches have separate threaded knock-out control wire entries. In addition they are all prepared for the 5-wire system including terminals for N- and PE- conductors. Easy to mount All boxes have drilling templates on the box and space saving internal mounting holes. In the front operated boxes the mounting screws are also isolated from the inside housing. Safety for personnel and reliable protection against unexpected start To meet all requirements for main switches the plastic enclosures have handles possible to lock with padlocks in OFF position. The indication of the handle is always reliable, even if the contacts are welded, and the cover of the front operated switches cannot be opened in ON postition. Suitable for outdoor as well as indoor installation The standard protection degree is IP65 and as the cable entries all are knock-out types unused entries are leak-proof and need no sealing. The side operated switches have rugged housing made of superior performance PBT. It provides maximum corrosion protection and makes the device resistent to impact. It provides also superior UV stability. 6

8 Switches in steel sheet enclosure Easy to install The versatility of knock-outs enable in- and outgoing cabling from the bottom or the top. The boxes have knock-out holes for suitable cables up to 63 Amp and all covers are hinged, thus giving maximum comfortability to the users. The switches are all prepared for the 5-wire system and include N- and PE-terminals. Safety for personnel To meet the requirements for main switches all steel sheet enclosures have handles possible to lock with padlocks in OFF position. The indication of the handle is always reliable, even if the contacts are welded, and the cover of the front operated switches cannot be opened in ON position. The cover is security latched in the boxes from 160 Amp and does not entirely open even if there is pressure inside the box. This feature protects the personnel from accidents in case of short circuits. Suitable for outdoor as well as indoor installation The steel sheet enclosures are robust and durable, suitable both for outdoor and indoor environment with good protection against corrosion. Screw gaskets for mounting through the back plate are included up to 125 Amp. 8
