MARCH OFFICERS PRESIDENT Becky Field VICE PRESIDENT Nick DiSanti SECRETARY Alyce Ancell TREASURER JoAnn Martorano CMC CRUIS N ON FOURTH By Hank Galos CMC members and friends attended the Fords on Fourth show in Tucson, February 20 hosted by the Southern Arizona Mustang Club. As always they put on a great, well organized and attended show. Instead of traditional dash plaque for participants, they made serialized aluminum license plates, a novel idea. Check-in was from 7 until 9am and the show ended by 3 pm. Fourth Avenue was closed to all vehicle traffic except the trolley. At 25 cents it was a great way to see some of the historic district. There are so many restaurants and shops in the area to see, you can t see them all in one visit. There were a dozen or more CMC members and their cars in attendance. Some of us drove down Friday evening, some Saturday and the rest on Sunday morning. About 6 member families caravanned from Tucson to Tombstone Saturday morning with side trips to the Elgin Winery and the ghost town of Fairbank. The wind kicked up in the afternoon so we headed back to Tucson and dinner at Rusty s. Sunday we met at the Hampton Inn at 8 am and traveled to the show and parked together. Some went earlier and parked in other areas of the show. There were over 400 Ford vehicles in attendance. SGT. AT ARMS Sarah Talahongva talahongva05@yahoo.com Est. 1979

THE PARKING LOT WORD FROM YOUR PRESIDENT. Our annual pancake breakfast was held at South Mountain Park with about 40 people attending. It was a gorgeous morning and the pancakes and sharing with other Mustang owners was great! I want to thank John Valencia and hiss associate and Jeff Dorfman for cooking the pancakes at the breakfast. John did a bang-up job purchasing the food and see it cooked and served. I also want to thank Andy Sievers and Don Cook for doing the judging on the cars for the trophies. Thank you to Dan Martorano for bringing the grills and his coffee machine. All of these people worked very hard to make the breakfast a success. In my last letter I noted that we are attempting to get a T-Shirt together that will help us to be recognized as Copperstate Mustang Club. We have had many such shirts in the past and it is the intention of the Board that we settle on a T- Shirt that gives us recognition as a club and will see us through the future as well, instead of having a different shirt every few years. With that in mind, the Board decided to go with a T-Shirt in a tan color with our logo in large size on the back and a smaller one on the front of the shirt. The Copperstate Logo is registered with the Corporation Commission and belongs to our club. We can think of no better way to gain recognition. I am sending a copy of the art work with this letter to be published in this newsletter so that you may see it. As was discussed in the last newsletter, the first shirt will cost $5.00 and any others will cost $ We intend for this to be the last shirt to be purchased and hope that you all will support the Board and order your shirts. Please call me with your thoughts and to order the shirts you will need. (480) Our condolences go out to the Young s in the loss of Joyce s mother. Our thoughts and prayers are with them. Becky Field 2011 President NEWS FLASH Mustang has started out the muscle car sales drag race for 2011 in second place. In January 2011, Ford sold 3,615 Mustangs, with the Chevy Camaro besting the pony at 4,763. The Dodge Challenger sold 2,526 units, putting it in third place... At the 40th Anniversary Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Collector Car Auction event, Mustang history was once made again. The one of a kind Grabber Blue 2012 BOSS 302 Laguna Seca edition sold for $450,000.. The next generation 2014 Ford Mustang is well into it s development phase in Dearborn. Internally referred to loosely as the Mustang III by a few of the people. Last time Ford gave a car a name like that, it was the Mustang II, and we all know how that turned out. But rest assured, there aint going to be a gussied up Pinto.. In a year of many achievements the Ford Mustang has yet another award to add to its collection. This time it s Car and Driver magazine choosing the 2011 Mustang GT as one of it s 10 Best Cars of 2011, saying it may be one of Ford s most gratifying vehicles ever!... We need your involvement. There is so much the club can do to bring fun and excitement, but without your input and participation, it becomes only a meeting.. If you have any suggestions for articles or news that you would like to see in the Newsletter, please let me know. We want to hear from you. I can be reached by smaloley@solarconceptsaz.com

CLUB HAPPENINGS RUSSO & STEELE AUTO AUCTION SCOTTSDALE, AZ, JANUARY 21, 2011 The auction was held in one large tent while the vehicles resided in four more tents. Many CMC club members volunteered to work at the auction directing the cars, driving or providing driver assistance. From all accounts it is a great time. CMC club member Gary was thrilled to have driven a CJ Mustang among many other cars. 14 CMC club members pictured with George Alvillar (2nd from left) of Russo & Steele. This silver 1969 Mustang was built for baseball Hall of Famer, Jack Morris. 12 Mustangs attended the 11th annual Russo & Steele Auction Articles and photos by Hank Gallo Lee Iacocca Mustang. How many of us know who Lee Iacocca is? Yes, the Father of the Mustang. For the 45th anniversary of the Mustang he unveiled his latest design and only created 45 copies. That s Wayne Sloane reaching under the dash to hot wire it for a joy ride. Luckily Russo & Steele traffic controller, Scott Nett, was able to stop him before any trouble started.

CLUB HAPPENINGS CMC club member Buddy Schultz invited ten members to bring their cars out on Sunday morning to promote the club s upcoming spring show on April 30 from 4 to 8pm at Berge Ford. If you missed it this year, make plans to attend next year, it was a lot of fun. Car owners pictured: Hank Gallo, Chris Bresciani, Dan Martorano, Jeff Minx (down front), Buddy Schultz, Fabian Pugliese, Joann Martorano, (Joann s friend Kathy), Dave Jacobelli, Buck Murray and Scott Nett. It was agreed that the shirts should have our club logo on them as it is our official club logo. More discussion to follow and will be brought up to general members at the next meeting. The Show graphics were discussed for the Mustang Round Up in April. Discussion was that registrations, flyers, dash plaques and tee shirts should all follow the same design. 7 ON TRACK BARRETT-JACKSON S STEVE DAVIS TALKS FORD MUSTANGS By Jonathan Lamas, photo courtesy of Barrett-Jackson Steve Davis, president of Barrett-Jackson, took time out of his busy schedule to talk Mustangs at the recent Scottsdale auction. Steve said they had some pretty rare Mustangs. Ironically, the really rare Mustangs were the late model ones. That was indicative of how cool the late-model Mustangs really are. With their retro styling, and of course that new 5.0L, they re incredible pieces of machinery. He went on to say they had the 2011 DUB Ford Mustang that sold for $102,000, with proceeds going to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. In addition to that, he says, they had some of the Boss inspired late-model Parnelli Jones Mustangs that went over the block. Parnelli was actually there on stage with Steve Saleen as well as Bob Bondurant. One of those cars sold for charity as well. It sold for $120,000. At Basrrett-Jackson, the Mustang is a staple. It covers the spectrum of entry level to the really desirable high-end muscle cars. Cobra Jets all the way through to this new wave of collectibles. The Shelby is at the head of the pack as well. It s a good sell for Mustangs all around. Barrett-Jackson is not just for the guy with unlimited resources. Steve says he is very proud of the fact that Barrett-Jackson has created a marketplace that s as user friendly for entry-level people as it is for the experienced high-end collectors. In bringing people into that environment, knowing they attract the best buyers in the planet, they know they need to be car people, and they believe they are. They are passionate car people. It s something they really love. Whatever may be going on in your life, kids going to college, etc. you decide you need to sell your Mustang. An efficient way to sell your Mustang is to appeal to people who are qualified. They pre-qualify every person who signs up to bid. They bring them there. There s something for everybody. They put it in the most competitive environment in the world. And when the smoke clears, you re going to get what that car is worth that day. It may not be what you hoped for, or it may be more than you hoped for. It may be a grand slam home run, or it may be a single. At the end of the day, you can rest assured whatever the market is you re going to realize it at Barrett-Jackson. It s a key component when you think about taking a tangible asset and needing to turn it into money in a real arms-length transaction with no smoke and mirrors. Knowing it s going to be represented properly, it s going to be promoted by the best promotional team on this planet. You put it out there, and at the end of the day you ve established a value for the car. It s very appealing to people who legitimately need to sell their car and want to get as much as they possibly can, realizing that the market is sometimes a very fickle place. My advice, do your due diligence. If you re thinking of putting your car into an auction, ask the right questions and make sure it s going to work for you for any seller. Steve was asked if there were any other special Mustangs. He said he was very fortunate, at the Palm Beach show a few years back, being able to call the 2003 Mustang GT concept car his own. They did a Silver Fastback and a Red Convertible. He sold them both. Steve ended up with one of them. What an incredible car. All hand build. Of course, he can t put it on the street and drive it, but you can walk around and look at it!

STANG FUN TAKING A MUSTANG ROAD TRIP AKING A M Taking a road trip in a Ford Mustang has to be good times and endless miles of open road. Ford Mustang ownership has so many benefits. Can you remember your favorite Mustang road trip story? (We d love to hear it!) Mapping out a destination, packing and hitting the road to only return home from those trips with new photos, new friends, and many new memories to carry through until the next trip. Did you know that in May of 2009 Kelly Blue Book listed the Ford Mustang Convertible as one of the Best Road Trip Cars out there. In fact, the publication said, The Ford Mustang convertible is a good-time party car. Good times indeed. Of course, no road trip is complete without a side trip; the more random it is the better. The change of scenery is a welcoming surprise. One that comes to mind was back when roads such as Route 66 were in their prime. Although they may be hard to find, roads such as this do still exist. With a little planning you can incorporate one into your next road trip. A great source is the website America s Byways, which provides a listing of America s most scenic roads, complete with road maps and more. Preparing for the road trips in your Mustang can be a great experience. You just want to make sure you have everything in order before you leave. For instance, never take a road trip without checking your car to make sure it is in good working order. You also want to make sure you have all your important documents in the car. Which documents? Oh, insurance and vehicle registration are a must. Other items such as maps, snacks, good music, and an emergency kit are important as well. With a little planning, your next road trip is sure to be a blast. Just remember, with road trips it s not the destination that makes all the difference; it s the journey getting there. Happy trails and happy cruising!
