1 May 2015 MEMBER OF THE MONTH KATHY SEBESTA 2015 OFFICERS PRESIDENT JOANN MARTORANO VICE PRESIDENT Chris Valentino SECRETARY Alyce Ancell TREASURER Ethel Marques SGT. AT ARMS Sarah Talahongva It is quite an honor to be selected as Copperstate Mustang Club Member of the Month! Since becoming a member last fall, I have been able to participate in a couple of the club s car shows, which I have really enjoyed. My love for Mustangs began growing up in Mesa, AZ with my Mom and Dad s 1966 Signal Flare Red, 289 coupe. When I went to college, I purchased as my daily driver a used 1969 Mustang Mach 1, New Lime, speed with no power anything, and NO air conditioning! After a few years, I eventually sold it and over the next 30 years, I owned a number of other (non-mustang) cars. However, I always missed my Mustang, so I would go to car shows to look at all the classic Mustangs.

4 Member of the Month Cont... A few years ago, my husband Kevin and I talked about buying another 1969 Mach 1. Even though Kevin is not really a car guy (he s a computer guy), he supports my passion for Mustangs. After looking for several months, I found my Mustang last March a 1969 Mach 1, Pastel Gray, speed with a shaker hood scoop. I am the 5 th owner of the car. The history of my Mustang is that it was built in San Jose, CA and sold new in Boise, Idaho. The gentleman who restored the Mustang purchased it in 2007 from the second owner in Eastern Oregon where the car had been in a storage shed for over 20 years. Because of this, the Mustang is very solid, and still has all its original sheet metal. He shipped it back to Illinois and restored it to factory originality. I purchased the Mustang from the 4 th owner last year and shipped it back out west. I ve enjoyed taking my Mustang to car shows and driving it on the weekends. I even drove it all the way to Tucson and back for the MCA Show in March. Being a member of the CSMC is an added benefit to owning my Mustang. I ve met a lot of really great people and look forward to participating in many more CSMC events and activities!
5 Spring Fling 2015 And what a grand Spring Fling it was on April 25th at Berge Ford on a warm, 78 degree Spring day on what could be called a top down/convertible kind of day in Mesa, Arizona. Copperstate Mustang Club members started gathering by 7:00 AM to help with show preparations; and stayed late to handle clean-up after the show. Dan was on the microphone with announcements, music and lots of door prizes. Becky cooked the luncheon fare while Phyllis handled sales of coffee, donuts and lunch. Show registration was the responsibility of Joanne and Kathy, while Chris managed the judging. Alyce had fun with the Club trailer/office responsibilities. A drawing was held for the grand prize of a 32 inch flat screen television, which was won by Gerald and Joyce Young. (Joyce said that she purchased that winning ticket). The 50/50 drawing was won by Ron Himrich. Trophies were donated by Berge Ford and resented to winning registrants in first, second and third places of fifteen different car classes. Berge was invited to choose the Best of Show trophy winner. The winning Mustang was a stock 1969 Mach 1 owned by Kathy Sebesta. We welcome four new members that joined our Club at the show: Brian & Betty Ponikvar of Tucson Roger & Carrie Huppert of Scottsdale Gordon & Mary Edwards of Sun Lakes Plus returning member Randy Tinsley & son Michael of Queen Creek. This show was a Spring Fling kind of gathering of fine Mustangs with old and new friends who will immediately start planning for another festive Copperstate Mustang Club show in October. 14 Tech Talk Let s talk tires, it s getting warm out here and tires are something we need to keep an eye on. Tires are things we tend to overlook, when we think of tires we just look at them and if they are full with air we thank that they re okay, right?? (Wrong). Tires are something we need to pay a lot attention to. To understand which tire type and size for your car, look at the body tag which is located on the door frame on the driver side to see which size tires are for your car. Look at your tires and see which one you have on your car. If the tire type and size match with what is on the tag then you are good. Now, if the type and size doesn t match the door tag, then you need to get this fix right away. For one thing, you will have problems with gas mileage, with the way it ride and handle. When looking at your tires, look at the tire treads wear for uneven wear, look at the outside and inside for wear. Outside wear is an indication of under-inflation and inside wear is an indication of over-inflation. If you have uneven wear across the top of the tires then there may be a problem with your struts or the shock absorbs. The tire pressure is also label on the door tag, for instead the front tires may call for 30 psi and the rear tires may call for 35 psi. so make should you have the right psi in your tires. Let not forget to inspect the side of the tires. Look for cracks in the rubber which mean that there were a lot of stress on them at some point and they must be replace. The top side may have some separation as well so inspect this area during your inspection. This is important, especially in this heat which can leads to blow-outs. When you take your car to the carwash, they treat the tires also but, only on the outer side and not the inner side so keep your eyes on the inner side as well for cracks. It is not nice to have three tires and jack on these streets now is it?? So be smart with your cars this summer guys and play it safe. Always get the correct tires size and numbers that your car body tag call for! (P215/70R1595 S) There is a lot more to know about tires, to be continue. Richard P.
