1 June OFFICERS PRESIDENT JEFF MINX VICE PRESIDENT Don Cook MEMBER OF THE MONTH WES & JO YOUNG We have both always had a love for the Mustang. Jo owned her first Mustang, a 1979 Fastback. Really a ladies car, light blue with blue interior. Great car for her in the day. When her oldest daughter turned 16, she passed it on to her who enjoyed it until she went off to college. Then it was given to the other daughter when she turned 16. Both of the girls had named the car Marvin the Mustang, even though it was a girl car. Unfortunately, the car met with a roll-over accident with the daughter and her girl friend one night. Thankfully, no one was injured, but the car was totaled. Mom replaced that car with coupes for each girl. Later both of those cars would go away as the girls chose other types of cars for their transportation. SECRETARY Becky Field beckyfield@q.com TREASURER JoAnn Martorano jdmartorano@yahoo.com SGT. AT ARMS Sarah Talahongva talahongva05@yahoo.com In June of 2005 while at the Rocky Mountain Mustang Round-up in Steamboat Springs, Colorado we began looking at Mustangs that might be for sale and fell in love with a 1967 Coupe with 36,000 original miles. What a sweet ride that car was and we continued to use it as our driver until March 2012.

5 Member of the Month Cont d After the initial shock and passage of time, we started our search for a replacement 69 Mach 1. The week before Thanksgiving, 2006 we got a call from Rod Holland at American Stang telling us that we had to look at a 1970 Mach 1, Twister Special for sale on ebay. Our remark What s a Twister Special? After doing research on the Twister Special Registry, we were excited and made the commitment to bid. Long story short we WON the bid. So off to Michigan to pick up the car. Thus began the journey of restoration. We have participated in many local and regional show as well as MCA shows for the past 5 years with this car and will do more in the future. Always an eye catcher with the Grabber Orange paint and special decals and stripping exclusive to the Twister Special, allow us to share our story with many people. We never tire of hearing I ve heard of a Twister Special, but have never seen one. Always being true lovers of The Classics, we would sometimes be envious of the looks and sounds of the newer Mustangs. After attending the Pancake Breakfast at North Mountain and hearing the new cars roar out of the parking lot, we turned to each other and said We really need to get more serious about getting a newer model Mustang. We knew that we wanted another special car of sorts, but were not totally clear as to just what that would be. So, after looking around and doing research, we decided on a 2008 GT500KR. This is the 40th Anniversary Edition of the GT500KR. We looked at several on the internet and ultimately found one in Mesa to look at. How convenient was that! Must have been meant to be as we knew as soon as we saw it that it was the car for us. Love the modern conveniences, the speed and the sound of the car. So today we enjoy having both a classic and a modern Mustang and hope to continue to enjoy both for years to come.

6 Born Too Late Jan.11, 1923! Carroll Shelby s Birthday. We all know the Cobra and the GT 350, the GT500 and the Daytona Coupe. These were all the visions or insights of one of America s famous race car drivers and auto manufacturers. This man brought recognition back to the United States that we could build a small race car to complete with the European giants of Ferrari, Porsche, and Jaguar. Carroll Shelby took a small English AC sports car and made it into one of the greatest winning sports cars in history. This man had the insight, the knowledge and ambition to put together one of the greatest teams of engineers, mechanics and drivers to produce a series of sports cars for the track and the street. Almost to the point of being ruthless, he made a lot of friends and enemies over the years to accomplish his dream machines. I got to meet Carroll Shelby several times over the years, owned a couple of his Shelby Mustangs and was even able to attend his 80 th Birthday party. I always found him to be a very generous person, easy to speak with, extremely friendly and always willing to share his knowledge and experience without boasting about himself. He often referred to his people as His Team and always gave credit to the people that had actually achieved the victory. The first Cobra shipped on Feb.2, 1962.Shelby was 39 years old then, he continued to build GT350 s and GT500 s off and on for 50 years. He gave us all the pleasure of enjoying both the early cars as well as the new Road Warriors of today. Thank you Carroll Shelby for all the good times and memories, I m sure you will never be forgotten. God Speed Dan M. Note: Carroll Shelby always said that He was born too late had he been born earlier he would have accomplished more in his lifetime that seems are to imagine.
