1 2017 OPERATIONS REPORT

2 2017 ANNUAL SUMMARY After a record-breaking year in locate request volume in 2016, Alabama 811 did not have quite the same volume in 2017, ending up with a 7% increase in locate requests. However, over the two year period of the cumulative increase in locate request volume was 30% overall. This trend was very comparable to the other southeastern states as well as the nation as a whole based on industry statistics. The top work types for excavation activity were telephone, cable television drops, gas line/main installations and water leak repair. Several operational changes and programs were rolled out during These included projects such as: Completion of GeoCall software platform moved to full cloud based technology for business continuity and volume load balancing Implementation of BING maps for mapping overlay options Growth of web portal ticket entry to over 50% monthly Addition of GIS staff to focus on member service areas and base map functionality Development of Mock Line Strikes for APACT Pipeline Awareness Training Refocus on regional damage prevention alliance groups and the Alabama Damage Prevention Alliance (ADPA) Promotional 811 Hot Air Balloon events across the state Implementation of credit card acceptance in accounting system Allowance of emergency requests to be placed on the web portal for approved users Initial stage of implementation of voluntary positive response system One of the large projects the staff of Alabama 811 was involved in was the Governor s One Call Study Commission that began working on review of enforcement, membership requirements and other improvements to the damage prevention law in July of During 2017, the Commission was able to draft and approve a final report that was submitted to the Governor and leadership of the Alabama Legislature in early A copy of the final report can be obtained on Alabama 811 s website. As we move into 2018, we expect to see a small but continued increase in locate requests and excavation activity within the state. We will continue to focus on potential legislative action to improve the overall damage prevention program within the state, membership recruitment to better serve the excavation community and protect the underground facilities from damage and quality education programs. As always, we thank our membership and the excavating community for making safety a top priority and always contacting 811 before any excavation project. Annette R. Reburn Executive Director
