1 2018 OPERATIONS REPORT
2 2018 ANNUAL SUMMARY With all the technology involved in operating a productive 811 center, it seems that every year sees new implementation of programs and process. This past year, 2018,was no exception to that rule. Although the overall locate requests volume was down from previous years, there was still a great deal of activity keeping the Alabama 811 staff busy in our goal to provide quality services for both our utility members and the excavating community. These included projects such as: Implementation of new cloud based telephone switch for business continuity purposes GIS Databases migrated to cloud base platform for business continuity purposes Voluntary Positive Response Program Continued growth of web portal ticket entry to an average of 54% monthly Addition of damage prevention education staff Increase use of Mock Line Strikes for APACT Pipeline Awareness Training Implementation of online polling for APACT meetings Development and implementation of member contact database platform Promotional 811 Hot Air Balloon events across the state Coordinated Alabama Damage Prevention Summit with educational tract with the GIS Association of Alabama Migrated to fully insured employee insurance program saving approximately 30% on premiums Developed digital newsletter Targeted social media promotions and educational messages Many states across the Southeast saw a reduction in the annual growth in locate request over the previous year. However, even with our flat growth in 2018, we had two record breaking months in May and August, processing just under 56,000 locate requests during those months and we processed nearly 585,000 locate requests with an average answer of 21 seconds for the year. As we move into 2019, we expect a continued increase in locate requests and excavation activity within the state. We will continue to focus on potential legislative action to improve the overall damage prevention program within the state, membership recruitment to better serve the excavation community and protect the underground facilities from damage and quality education programs. As always, we thank our membership and the excavating community for making safety a top priority and always contacting 811 before any excavation project. Annette R. Reburn Executive Director
