FEATURES OF YOUR HYUNDA B010A03A-AAT FUEL RECOMMENDATONS Use Unleaded Gasline UNLEADED FUEL ONLY SSA1010A Unleaded gasline with a Pump Octane Rating f 87 (Research Octane Number 91) r higher must be used in yur Hyundai. f leaded gasline is used, it will cause the catalytic cnverter t becme ineffective and the emissin cntrl system t malfunctin. This can als result in increased maintenance expense. T avid accidental use f leaded fuel, the larger nzzle used with leaded gasline at ser- vice statins cannt be inserted int the fuel tank pening f yur Hyundai. 11 B020A01S-AAT BREAKNG N YOUR NEW HYUNDA During the First 1,200 Miles (2,000 Km) N frmal break-in prcedure is required with yur new Hyundai. Hwever, yu can cntribute t the ecnmical peratin and durability f yur Hyundai by bserving the fllwing recmmendatins during the first 1,200 miles (2,000 km). Dn't drive faster than 55 MPH (88 km/h). While driving, keep yur engine speed (rpm, r revlutins per minute) between 2,000 rpm and 4,000 rpm. Use mderate acceleratin. Dn't start quickly r depress the acceleratr pedal fully. Fr the first 200 miles (300 km), try t avid hard stps. Dn't lug the engine (in ther wrds, dn't drive s slwly in t-high a gear that the engine "bucks"-shift t a lwer gear). Whether ging fast r slw, vary yur speed frm time t time. Dn't let the engine idle lnger than 3 minutes at ne time. Dn't tw a trailer during the first 1,200 miles (2,000 km) f peratin. FEATURES OF YOUR HYUNDA B030A01A-AAT KEYS B030B01S-AAT Recrd Yur Key Number SSA1030A Fr greater cnvenience, the same key perates all the lcks in yur Hyundai. Hwever, because the drs can be lcked withut a key, carrying a spare key is recmmended in case yu accidentally lck ne key inside the car. T0420 A cde number is stamped n the key number plate that came with the keys t yur Hyundai. This key number plate shuld be kept in a safe place, nt in the vehicle. The key number shuld als be recrded in a place where it can be fund in an emergency. f yu need additinal keys, r if yu shuld lse yur keys, yur authrized Hyundai dealer can make new keys if yu can supply the key number. B040A01A-AAT DOOR LOCKS WARNNG: Unlcked drs can be dangerus. Befre yu drive away (especially if there are children in the car), be sure that all the drs are securely clsed and lcked s that the drs cannt be inadvertently pened frm the inside. This helps assure that drs will nt be pened accidentally. Als, when cmbined with the prper use f seat belts, lcking the drs helps keep ccupants frm being ejected frm the car in case f an accident. Lck the dr by turning the key tward the frnt f the vehicle and unlck it by turning the key tward the rear. The drs can be lcked withut a key. T lck the drs frm the utside, first flip the inside lck switch t the "LOCK" psitin, s that the red mark n the switch is nt visible, then clse the dr. NOTE: When lcking the dr this way, be careful nt t lck the dr with the ignitin key left in the vehicle. T prtect against theft, always remve the ignitin key, clse all windws, and lck all drs when leaving yur vehicle unattended. T lck the drs frm the inside, simply clse the dr and flip the lck switch dwnward t the "LOCK" psitin. When this is dne, neither the utside nr the inside dr handle can be used. NOTE: When the dr is lcked, the red mark n the switch is nt visible. 1-3

13 B040G01F-AAT CENTRAL DOOR LOCK - Driver Side (f nstalled) UNLOCK FEATURES OF YOUR HYUNDA B050A01F-AAT WNDOW GLASS Pwer Windw Aut-Dwn Windw (Driver's Side) (f nstalled) LOCK FUA1040D The central dr lck is perated by flipping the driver's dr lck switch upward r dwnward. f the passenger dr is pen when the switch is pushed in the "LOCK" psitin, the dr will becme lcked when it clses. NOTE: All drs will unlck when the switch is flipped upward. When the switch is flipped dwnward, all drs will lck. When the dr is unlcked the red mark n the switch is visible. The central dr lck is perated by turning the key (driver's dr nly) tward the frnt r rear f the vehicle. (1) FUA1060B The pwer windws perate nly when the ignitin key is in the "ON" psitin. The main switches are lcated n the driver's arm rest and cntrl the frnt windws n the respective sides f the vehicle. The windws may be pened by depressing the rear prtin f the switch. T stp at the desired pening, release the switch. The windw may be clsed by depressing the frnt prtin f the switch. n rder t prevent peratin f the windw by a passenger, a windw lck switch (1) is prvided n the arm rest f the driver's dr. T disable the passenger's pwer windw, push the windw lck switch. T revert t nrmal peratin, push the windw lck switch again. FUA1061B The Aut-Dwn windw is mved t its fully pen psitin by pushing the switch, and t stp at the desired psitin push the switch again. CAUTON: Never try t perate the main switch and sub-switch in ppsing directins at the same time. f this is dne, the windw will stp and cannt be pened r clsed. 1-4

14 FEATURES OF YOUR HYUNDA B080B01A-AAT Adjusting Seat Frward and Rearward B080C01A-AAT Adjusting Seatback Angle FUA1060A WARNNG: Be careful that head, hands and bdy are nt trapped by a clsing windw. f passengers remain in the car when yu leave, especially if a child remains alne, always remve the ignitin key fr their safety. When pening r clsing the windws, make sure yur passenger's arms, hands and bdy are safely ut f the way. B080A01A-AAT ADJUSTABLE FRONT SEATS WARNNG: Never attempt t adjust the seat while the vehicle is mving. This culd result in lss f cntrl, r an accident which may cause death, serius injury, r prperty damage. FUA1070B T mve the seat tward the frnt r rear, pull the lck release lever upward. This will release the seat n its track s yu can mve it frward r rearward t the desired psitin. When yu find the psitin yu want, release the lever and slide the seat frward r rearward n its track until it lcks int the desired psitin and cannt be mved further. FUA1070C T recline the seatback, lean frward t take yur weight ff it, then pull up n the recliner cntrl lever at the utside edge f the seat. Nw lean back until the desired seatback angle is achieved. T lck the seatback int psitin, release the recliner cntrl lever. WARNNG: T minimize risk f severe injury in the event f a cllisin r a sudden stp, bth the driver and passenger seatbacks shuld always be in an upright psitin while the vehicle is in mtin. The prtectin prvided by the seat belts and airbags may be reduced significantly when the seatbacks are reclined. There is greater risk that the driver and passenger will slide under the belt which may result in serius injury if a crash ccurs when the seatbacks are re- 1-5

B080D02A-AAT Adjustable Headrests D nt perate the vehicle with the headrests remved as severe injury t an ccupant may ccur in the event f an accident. Headrests may prvide prtectin against severe neck injuries when prperly adjusted. B080F01F-AAT Seat Cushin Height Adjustment (Driver's Seat Only) (f nstalled) B080E01F-AAT Lumbar Supprt Cntrl (Driver's seat nly) (f installed) Lck Knb FUA1070D Headrests are designed t help reduce the risk f neck injuries. T raise the headrest, pull it up. T lwer it, push it dwn while pressing the lck knb. WARNNG: Fr maximum effectiveness in case f an accident, the headrest shuld be adjusted s the tp f the headrest is at the same height as the tp f the ccupant's ears. The use f a cushin that hlds the bdy away frm the seatback is nt recmmended. SOFT FRM FUA1070E The driver's seat is equipped with adjustable lumbar supprt. T increase the amunt f lumbar supprt, pull the lever frward. T decrease it, push the lever tward the rear. FUA1070F T raise r lwer the frnt part f the seat cushin, turn the knb frward r rearward. 1-6

16 B129A01F-AAT REAR SEAT POSTONS FEATURES OF YOUR HYUNDA B130A01F-AAT REAR SEAT ENTRYS B099A01F-AAT BEFORE FOLDNG THE REAR SEATS B129A01F WARNNG: This vehicle cntains tw rear seating psitins nly and a seat belt fr each seating psitin. Thus, never permit mre than tw ccupants t ride in the rear seat because an unrestrained ccupant culd be seriusly injured r killed in the event f a vehicle crash. (2) (1) ZL10160A The frnt passenger seatback shuld be tilted t enter the rear seat. By pulling up n the recliner cntrl lever (1) at the utside f the frnt passenger seat, the seatback will tilt frward and the seat will autmatically slide frward. Rear seat ccupants can tilt the frnt passenger seatback by depressing the ft lever (2) as shwn in the illustratin. WARNNG: Passengers sitting in the rear seat shuld be careful nt t accidentally press the ft lever (2) while the vehicle is mving, as this may cause the seat back t mve frward and injure a frnt seat ccupant. B099A01F n rder t prevent the shulder belt frm being damaged, while flding the rear seat, the shulder belt must be passed thrugh the hanger. CAUTON: Seat belts must be remved frm the hanger when is in use. 1-7

17 B110A02S-AAT FOLDNG REAR SEATBACKS (f nstalled) The rear seatbacks may be flded t facilitate carrying lng items r t increase the luggage capacity f the vehicle. 1-8 FUA1480A T unlck the seatback, push the seatback lcking buttn, then pull frward n the seatback panel. When yu return the seatback t its upright psitin, always be sure it has lcked int psitin by pulling and pushing n the tp f the seatback. FEATURES OF YOUR HYUNDA FUA1481A WARNNG: The purpse f the fld-dwn rear seatbacks is t allw yu t carry lnger bjects than culd therwise be accmmdated. D nt allw passengers t sit n tp f the flded dwn seat back while the car is mving as this is nt a prper seating psitin and n seat belts are available fr use. This culd result in injury in case f an accident r sudden stp. Objects carried n the flded dwn seatback shuld nt extend higher than the tp f the frnt seats. This culd allw carg t slide frward and cause injury r damage during sudden stps. B150A01F-AAT SEAT BELT PRECAUTONS WARNNG: All ccupants f the vehicle must wear their seat belts at all times. Nte that this vehicle is equipped with a Supplemental Restraint (Airbag) System as discussed beginning n page The seat belts must be used in cnjunctin with the supplemental airbag system. State laws may require that sme r all ccupants f the vehicle use seat belts. The pssibility f increased injury r severity f injury in an accident will be increased if this elementary safety precautin is nt bserved. n additin, the fllwing recmmendatins are made: B150B01F-AAT nfant r Small Child All states require small children t use prper restraints. The child restraint seat r infant restraint system must be placed in the rear seat and used fr infants r small children weighing less than 40 punds. nfrmatin abut the use f such restraints begins n page Such restraints must nly be used in the rear seat. WARNNG: Every persn in yur vehicle needs t be buckled up at all times, including infants and children. n a cllisin, an unrestrained

18 child can becme a "missile" inside the car. The frce required t hld a child n yur lap culd be s great that yu culd nt hld the child. Any child riding in the vehicle shuld always be in a prper restraint in the rear seat f the vehicle. NOTE: Small children are best prtected in an accident when prperly restrained in the rear seat by a child restraint system that meets the requirements f the Federal Mtr Vehicle Safety Standards. Befre buying any child restraint system, make sure that it has a label certifying that it meets Mtr Vehicle Safety Standard 213. The restraint must be apprpriate fr yur child's height and weight. Check the label n the child restraint fr this infrmatin. See page B150C01A-AAT Larger Children Children wh are t large fr child restraint systems shuld ccupy the rear seat and use the available lap/shulder belts. The lap prtin shuld be fastened snug n the hips and as lw as pssible. Check belt fit peridically. A child's squirming culd mve the belt ut f psitin. f the larger child (ver age 13) is in the frnt seat, the child shuld be securely restrained by the seat belt. Under n circumstances shuld the child be allwed t stand r kneel n the seat. Children are affrded the mst safety in the event f an accident when they are restrained FEATURES OF YOUR HYUNDA by a prper restraint system in the rear seat. Never allw children t ride in the frnt passenger seat. B150D01A-AAT Pregnant Wmen The use f a seat belt is recmmended fr pregnant wmen t lessen the chance f injury in an accident. When a seat belt is used, the lap belt prtin shuld be placed as lw and snugly as pssible n the hips, nt acrss the abdmen. Fr specific recmmendatins, cnsult a physician. B150E01A-AAT njured Persn A seat belt shuld be used when an injured persn is being transprted. When this is necessary, yu shuld cnsult a physician fr recmmendatins. B150F01A-AAT One Persn Per Belt Tw peple (including children) shuld never attempt t use a single seat belt. This culd increase the severity f injuries in case f an accident. B150G01A-AAT D Nt Lie Dwn T reduce the chance f injuries in the event f an accident, and t achieve maximum effectiveness f the restraint system, all passengers shuld be sitting up and the frnt seats shuld be in an upright psitin when the car is mving. A seat belt cannt prvide prper prtectin if the persn is lying dwn in the rear seat r if the frnt seat is in a reclined psitin. WARNNG: Sitting in a reclined psitin r lying dwn when yur vehicle is in mtin can be dangerus. Even if yu buckle up, yur safety belts can't d their jb when yu're reclined. The shulder belt can't d its jb because it wn't be against yur bdy. nstead, it will be in frnt f yu. n a crash yu culd g int it with great frce, receiving serius neck r ther injuries. The lap belt can't d its jb either. n a crash the belt culd g up ver yur abdmen. The belt frces wuld be there, nt at yur pelvic bnes. This culd cause serius internal injuries. Fr prper prtectin when the vehicle is in mtin, have the seatback upright. Then sit back in the seat and wear yur safety belt prperly. See page

19 B160A01A-AAT CARE OF SEAT BELTS Seat belt systems shuld never be disassembled r mdified. n additin, care shuld be taken t assure that seat belts and belt hardware are nt damaged by seat hinges, drs r ther abuse. WARNNG: When yu return the rear seatback t its upright psitin after the rear seatback was flded dwn, be careful nt t damage the seat belt webbing r buckle. Be sure that the webbing r buckle des nt get caught r pinched in the rear seat. B160B01A-AAT Peridic nspectin t is recmmended that all seat belts be inspected peridically fr wear r damage f any kind. Parts f the system that are damaged shuld be replaced as sn as pssible. B160C01A-AAT Keep Belts Clean and Dry Seat belts shuld be kept clean and dry. f belts becme dirty, they can be cleaned by using a mild sap slutin and warm water. Bleach, dye, strng detergents r abrasives shuld nt be used because they may damage and weaken the fabric FEATURES OF YOUR HYUNDA B160D01A-AAT When t Replace Seat Belts Entire in-use seat belt assembly r assemblies shuld be replaced if the vehicle has been invlved in an accident. This shuld be dne even if n damage is visible. Additinal questins cncerning seat belt peratin shuld be directed t yur Hyundai Dealer. B170A03A-AAT HEGHT ADJUSTABLE FRONT SEAT SHOULDER BELT (f nstalled) SUA1090O Yu can adjust the height f the shulder belt anchr t ne f the 4 psitins. f the height f the adjusting seat belt is t near yur neck, yu will nt be getting the mst effective prtectin. The shulder prtin shuld be adjusted s that it lies acrss yur chest and midway ver yur shulder nearest the dr and nt yur neck. T adjust the height f the seat belt anchr, lwer r raise the height adjuster int an appr- priate psitin when the height adjuster buttn is pushed. Release the buttn t lck the anchr int psitin. Try sliding the release buttn t make sure that it has lcked int the psitin. WARNNG: The height adjuster must be in the lcked psitin when the vehicle is mving. The misadjustment f height f the shulder belt culd reduce the effectiveness f the seat belt in a crash. B180A01S-AAT SEAT BELT-Driver's 3-Pint System with Emergency Lcking Retractr T Fasten Yur Belt T fasten yur seat belt, pull it ut f the retractr and insert the metal tab int the buckle. There will be an audible "click" when the tab lcks int the buckle.
