1 PEL s Sensors/air sensor Overview The air sensor consists of a sensor nozzle - a hole that discharges air - and an airelectricity (air-air) converter. In principle, detection air is blown onto the workpiece and generated back pressure is converted to an electrical signal by the air-electricity converter. The sensor nozzle can be located any where, enabling compact design. Features /sensitive ll models are in compact size. Space saving, high precision and quick response. For all objects Noncontact detection does not damage the detection target and enables almost any solid objects to be detected. great variety of applications For presence confirmation, position/dimension confirmation, counting, level check, and pressure control, etc. CONTENTS Safety precautions PEL Switching element (P/P3) 6 Detection nozzle (P4) 9 PL switch (PL) 3 SEPEL switch (DPS) 40 related products Filter (K) 4 Piping instrument (P6) 43 Needle (P6) 44 Tube (460) 44 Pressure

2 Pressure PEL/SEPEL Series. Common Pneumatic components (sensors) Safety precautions lways read this section before starting use. Refer to Intro 67 for general precautions, and to " Safety precautions" in this section for details on each series. WRNING Use this product in accordance with the specifications range. Consult with CKD when using the product outside specifications or for special applications. Use with exceeding the specifications range may result in insufficient performance, and safety can not be secured. Confirm that the product will withstand the working environment. This product cannot be used in environments where functional obstacles could occur. The close contact confirmation switch makes main of aluminum and resin. Do not use in atmosphere where corrosive gases occur. For example, a special environment reaching high temperatures, with a chemical atmosphere, or where chemicals, vibration, humidity, moisture, coolant or gas are present.. PEL Series CUTION Understand compressed air features before designing a circuit. The PEL switch has a float, which moves up and down with small differential pressure, and a small bore orifice. Use the following type of circuit because these parts are susceptible to the entry of foreign substances and oil. Submicron air Oil mist Supply pressure PEL switch Detection nozzle If cutting water and oil flow back from the detection nozzle, provide a constant air flow or use a solenoid valve with a needle to let in a small amount of air. Check the PEL switch type and detection nozzle combination. Required functions may not operate if the combination is not correct. Design & Selection 3. SEPEL Series CUTION The SEPEL switch is used to check vacuum strength. Use the following type of circuit to prevent dust from being sucked in from the vacuum pad (standard). Note that the cannot remove moisture, so check that moisture does not get in the circuit. Standard type (djusting needle integrated) source Filter (k-005) If the work area has large amounts of dust use the type with an external adjustment needle and provide a on the needle side. source K type Filter (k-005) External needle (P6-FV0) Use the following circuit to create a vacuum break and check that pressure is not led to the SEPEL switch. source Pressure source Filter Loading/unloading SEPEL OFF Solenoid valve OFF Regulator ON OFF 3-way solenoid valve Destruction ON ON When using DPS-05 In the above table, an ON signal is issued at the break, the same as the suction signal ON state. Check suction with the signal issued when the solenoid valve is off. The PEL switch does not have an operation monitor indicator. Use a PL switch (boxed PEL switch) if a monitor indicator is required.

3 PEL/SEPEL Series If pressure is applied to the SEPEL switch at the vacuum break, use DPS-0 (Note ) with a large withstanding pressure. Pressure source Filter 3-way solenoid valve source Select the SEPEL switch type based on the suction nozzle diameter size. Select the type with an adjustment needle lock if using where vibration is generated. Loading/unloading SEPEL OFF Solenoid valve OFF. PEL Series ON OFF Destruction OFF ON When using DPS-0 The SEPEL signal turns off at the vacuum break, so the state is different from DPS-05. (Note ) DPS-0 is a custom order part. CUTION Observe the following items when installing: Install the PEL switch higher than the detection nozzle position to prevent cutting water and oil from entering. Provide enough space for adjustment, monitoring, and maintenance. Use a pipe with a ø3 or larger bore. Required functions may not operate if the joint bore is too small. For piping, use rustproof material such as stainless steel, nylon, or urethane tubing. House the PEL switch in a box if it is to be used where mist or dust is generated. Provide a ventilation port so that atmospheric pressure is maintained in the box. The PEL switch has a high-precision finish. Do not damage the switch by hitting or bumping it. When connecting a joint or other device, provide a sufficient compressed air flow and check that sealing tape or adhesive does not get inside. "TOP" is stamped on the side of the PEL switch. Check that this mark faces up when the switch is installed. pel TOP Installation & djustment PEL switch response time is adversely affected by supply pressure and piping length. For a fast response, use a low supply pressure and short piping. The PEL switch responds more slowly than a photoelectric switch. Use a response time of two seconds for dimension measurement and a delay of 0.5 seconds to confirm the presence. Note the following when wiring: When using a switching for the power supply, ground the F.G. (frame ground). Be sure to use the enclosed connector for the PEL switch terminal. If the terminal is soldered directly, the reed switch could deform and break due to the heat. PEL switch contact capacity is 50 VC/VDC or less, with a 50 m or smaller current. void overloads. / contact 3/4 contact Float up ON OFF Float down OFF ON Wiring symbol 3 4 Pressure Proper positioning pel TOP Incorrect positioning The PEL switch has a magnetic float and reed switch in the detection mechanism. The detection mechanism is adversely affected if magnetic material is placed near it. Do not place devices containing magnets, such as magnetic chucks or relays, near this switch. The PEL switch is assembled as follows when shipped. Change the base direction when the switch is installed. Check PEL switch operation before installing the switch. Place a tester across contacts - with the "TOP" mark up and gradually move the "TOP" mark down. The float moves and contacts - change from off to on. Repeat this operation with contacts 3-4 and confirm that the contact changes from on to off. Tester PEL reversal pel TOP pel TOP pel TOP pel TOP Initial state t shipment Installation state When connecting to a relay, install a surge absorber on the coil to protect the contact. 3

4 PEL/SEPEL Series Pressure CUTION Handling the adjustment needle The adjustment needle is set fully closed when the sensor is shipped. Turn the adjustment needle counterclockwise with the enclosed hexagon wrench. Sensitivity increases and the sensor turns on more easily. for adjustment is discharged from the slit on the adjustment needle. The slit is not for turning with a flat-tip screwdriver. Turning this slot with force damages the adjustment mechanism.. SEPEL Series Supplied air CUTION Installation precautions Installation & djustment Hexagonal wrench adjusting needle Connection to nozzle The adjustment needle trimmer is on top of the SEPEL. llow enough space above the SEPEL sensor. Supply and detection ports tend to leak air, so apply adhesive. Scraps are generated and cause problems if ports are disconnected, so do not remove ports. Use ø4 or ø3 bore urethane tubing for piping.. PEL Series CUTION If cutting water or oil from the nozzle accumulates in piping, the sensor may remain ON for a while. Wait for the cutting water to be discharged by the detection air before starting the machine. The sensor stays ON if the nozzle is clogged. Remove piping on the detection side of the PEL switch, and clean it with compressed air from an air gun. djustment. Turn power on and confirm that the red lamp lights.. Turn the SET screw, and see where the green lamp changes from on to off. From that point, turn the screw 30 degrees counterclockwise. Check that the lamp turns off. 3. pply a vacuum. 4. Pick up a workpiece, turn P. DJ until the green lamp goes from off to on, and determine point a. 5. Release the workpiece (the OUT lamp turn off). Counting the number of turns from point a, turn P. DJ counterclockwise and find point b, where the lamp turns from off to on. 6. The adjustment point is the most stable at the middle of points a and b, so turn P. DJ clockwise from point b and set to the middle. (Setting' point) OFF area ON area 30 Be sure to connect a surge absorber to the coil when connecting to a conductive load such as a relay. This basic PEL element consists of one variable orifice and one detection nozzle connection port. This element is a bridge circuit. K (vacuum) This element does not have a variable orifice, which must be installed externally. K is convenient when an application exceeds the element s variable orifice adjustment range or when the range is difficult to adjust. C (dimension sorting) Several C elements are assembled in the manifold, and detection ports are centralized and connected to the detection nozzle with one pipe. Use this when there is more than one setting points, such as when confirming dimensions. B (differential pressure general-purpose) This element has two input connection ports and two variable orifices enabling it to detect differential pressure of two inputs. This basic differential pressure switching element is usually used for high-speed detection. BL (vacuum pressure switch) This element does not have a fixed or variable orifice, so a bridge circuit cannot be configured with the element itself. This element is used for a pressure switch or assembled externally with a bridge circuit. This element is used as a differential pressure switch for a leak tester. 6

This is shown in Figures,, and 3. The electrical circuit s fixed resistance, R and R, is equivalent to the circuit s fixed orifice, R and R. The electrical circuit s variable resistance, Rv and Rx, is equivalent to the circuit s variable orifice, Rv, and resistance, Rx, is generated when distance X between the nozzle and specimen changes. When distance X changes and resistance, Rx, changes, the nozzles back pressure also changes, and differential pressure is generated between and B in pressure bridge circuits. This vertically displaces the float, MK, which has a permanent magnet, and changes the two reed switches (NO contact for Ca, NC contact for Cr). The switch operates as a differential switch at 0.5 kpa, and as a simple pressure switch at 0.5 kpa. 9 P Series Operational principle Detection nozzle Operational principle This nozzle is used with the switching element. Nozzle parts can be assembled separately or combined to match the application. This enables different types of detection sensor circuits to be configured. s shown in Fig., the air flow injected from the nozzle drops, so back pressure, Po, increases. The switching element is turned on and off by pressure, Po, and the state is detected. Supply pressure Supply pressure Output Po Object Discharge Fig. Gauge application (B) Most nozzles for gauge applications are round. Due to the relationship to the flow area, the measurement distance is X < = d/4 (d: detection nozzle inner diameter; X: distance from detection object). This nozzle is used with a relatively short clearance. The optimum bore is mm to mm (P4-B0 or P4-B0). Back pressure (D0)/(D0) Reflection (VS) With this type, another layer, B, of air flows on the outside of the gauge nozzle,, making it more difficult inside to diffuse. The measurement distance is longer and accuracy is lower than for the gauge type. nother air layer, B, is created on the outside the same as for the back pressure type, but this type is designed so that the air forms a vortex and is constrained. on the inside does not diffuse as easily as with the back pressure type, so measurement is longer. Detection air port B Supplied airport Detection air port Supply X Fig. B Supplied airport Output Fig. 3 Pressure Detecting (G) This type of nozzle is mainly used to detect the presence of objects. Measurement is longer compared to the three types of nozzles explained above. This type is used facing the injection nozzle, B, against the other detection nozzle,, and detecting the presence of objects by changes in pressure occurring when an object is between the two nozzles. Generally with this type of nozzle, the detection nozzle bore is the same size or larger than the injection air nozzle bore. Detection side nozzle (G type) X B Injection side nozzle (B type) Fig. 4 Turbulent flow This type of nozzle has a third nozzle, C, perpendicular to facing nozzles. The presence of objects between this nozzle and the facing nozzle is detected. The maximum detection distance is 00 mm, longer than the facing nozzle. This can also be used as a detection nozzle for fluidics or air micrometers, or as a detection nozzle of a jig with a hole opened in the detection section. 11 Selectiong the nozzle bore Fig.6 at right shows the relationship between the clearance between the nozzle and specimen (nozzle clearance) and the output pressure that moves the switching element float. The curve's rising edges is steeper for the P-03 than the P-07. This means that when the fixed orifice is small, output pressure changes more under the same fluctuation, a, of nozzle clearance, X. The P-03's output pressure fluctuation, b, is greater than P-07 output pressure fluctuation, c., so P-03 is capable of more accurate switching even with extremely small dimensions. The response of the P-03, with its smaller fixed orifice, is slower than the larger P-7 because the flow rate drops when the fixed orifice is small. In other words, P- 07 is used when detection nozzle pressure is high (discharge rate: large), and P-03 is used when nozzle pressure is low, such as with facing nozzles. 26 Category and usage The air sensor consists of a detection nozzle and air-electricity converter (air-air converter). Basically, back pressure generated when detection air is blown onto the workpiece is converted to an electric signal by the air-electricity converter. The detection nozzle is the air blow-off port. compact sensor can be manufactured since the nozzle is formed with hole machining. Various air sensors are available to match your application. Refer to Intro 67 for general precautions, and to " Safety precautions" in this section for details on each series. Contact /close contact confirmation switch, cutting tool broken detection switch GPS, HPS and TLPS Series Design & Selection Pressure WRNING Use this product in accordance with the specifications range. Consult with CKD when using the product outside specifications or for special applications. Use with exceeding the specifications range may result in insufficient performance, and safety can not be secured. Confirm that the product will withstand the working environment. This product cannot be used in environments where functional obstacles could occur. The main materials of this product is aluminum and resin. Do not use in atmosphere where corrosive gases occur. For example, a special environment reaching high temperatures, with a chemical atmosphere, or where chemicals, vibration, humidity, moisture, coolant or gas are present. Compressed air quality must satisfy JIS.4., "oilless clean dry air." Understand compressed air features before designing a circuit. This product has a small orifice, so use clean air with the recommended circuit shown below (GPS/HPS: Fig., TLPS: Fig. ) so foreign substances do not enter. Fig. Recommended circuit Pressure gauge Precautions for GPS, HPS Do not use following air circuit when flashing detection nozzle. Circuit with check valve The check valve acts as exhaust resistance, and limits the adjustable range. Circuit with shuffle valve and -way valve Residual pressure in the OUT side of the -way valve prevents a correct detection. Even if a 3-way valve is used, the shuffle valve may vibrate excessively. 31 GPS/HPS/TLPS Series CUTION The entry of compressor oil tarry substances may obstruct the flow of air and result in problems. Regularly inspect the compressor and discharge drainage. Keep the air flow constant so coolant and oil do not flow back from the detection nozzle, or use a solenoid valve with needle and flow a small amount of air from the bypass as shown in the recommended circuit (GPS/HPS: Fig., TLPS: Fig. ). Swarf and grinder chips. etc., could clog the nozzle. Increasing the supply pressure to blow these out has no effect. Provide a 3-way valve on the pressurized nozzle as shown below (GPS/HPS: Fig 3, TLPS: Fig 4). The orifice for the 3-way valve should be.5 mm diameter and over. Precautions for GPS, HPS Use a 4mm bore and 6mm outer diameter pipe to the detection side. bridge circuit is used for this product. Even if the small air solenoid valve is turned OFF as same as the conventional pressure switch, output is not turned OFF. Output is turned ON and OFF according to the pressure of a workpiece. Care must be taken when creating the program. If the program has already been created and cannot be changed, stop the small flow of air. Note that a delay of one second occurs when output is turned ON and OFF. Operation may be disabled if a capacitance load such as an C/DC buzzer is connected to the load. Turn power OFF and restart in this case. protection circuit is provided to prevent damage from incorrect wiring or overcurrent. relay must be used when connecting a capacitance load. Precautions for TLPS Use a 4 mm bore and 6 mm outer diameter pipe. When using 3, 4, or 5 stations, try to keep the injection rate of each nozzle as uniform as possible. When branching, use a 8mm outer diameter, 6mm bore main pipe as shown in Fig. 4, and create a loop circuit. Signals for the cutting tool broken detection switch are shown below. Drill Drill present Without drill State stop OFF OFF supply OFF ON When using the recommended circuit (Fig. ) having solenoid valve with needle, a small amount of air is supplied constantly. Even if the solenoid valve with needle is OFF, the cutting tool broken detection switch may activate depending on the air supply. The recommended supply pressure when using the standard detecting nozzle is 00 kpa. Consult with CKD on the detection nozzle shape and air circuit when a width larger than the standard nozzle detection width of 3 mm is required. Flowing air only during detection Let air flow for at least two seconds. fter the solenoid valve is released, wait at least second for the state to stabilize before retrieving signals. The remaining second acts as judgment time, and the signal turns OFF when the drill is normal. Continuously flowing air Response time differs with the piping length and supply pressure, but is 0. seconds (refer to page ). s a reference, the judgment time should be set to 0.5 seconds. 35 Contact confirmation switch (gap switch) GPS/MGPS/UGPS Series Overview The GPS Series gap switch is a air sensor used to check the workpiece contact and the clamp. While retaining the features of the conventional GPS Series, a modular unit has been realized by incorporating a joiner connection structure, and the body strength has been increased by using aluminum die-cast. Features Highly stability bridge circuit prevents the effect of the fluctuation in the supply pressure. Easy adjustment The sensitivity can be easily adjusted with the scale on the sensitivity adjustment dial. Non-contact detection Non-contact measurement is taken, so the product is not directly touched. The state can be checked without damaging valuable products. Energy saving The air consumption rate can be suppressed since this can be used with 0.03MPa supply pressure. High accuracy Modulization By incorporating a joiner connection, GPS units can be connected together, and can also be connected easily to the CKD or. Stationary The body strength has been increased by using aluminum die-cast. Environment conditions The product can be used in the environment where water, etc., splash, due to protective structure IP-67 (connector type). Pressure Gap switch principle drawing djustment dial Comparison side nozzle Proximity switch Comparison side workpiece Nozzle (Detection side) Diaphragm B R R Monitor pressure gauge Supply pressure P Operational explanation The air pressurized onto port P presses through orifice R and R of the air bridge circuit, and flows to the nozzles on the comparison side and on the detection side. When the detection side nozzle's clearance set with the adjustment dial in the comparison side nozzle, a back pressure reverses and pressures up the diaphragm. This activates the proximity switch and generates an electric signal. Contact confirmation switch 7

48 Close contact confirmation switch HPS/MHPS/UHPS Series Pressure Overview The close contact confirmation switch HPS Series incorporates a highly accurate needle mechanism to enable highly accurate detection for contact confirmation, etc. With special nozzle, this switch is used for a variety of position detections. Close contact confirmation switch principle drawing Control needle Detection side nozzle 0.0mm Comparison side nozzle Diaphragm Proximity switch B Monitor pressure gauge R R Features Highly accurate variable-adjustment is possible with the precise linear needle. Min. detection distance 0.0mm Resolution ±0.005mm Low air consumption This switch is used with low pressure so air consumption is reduced. Lock mechanism with dial scale The position is adjusted easily with no problem of deviation. Modularization Modularization makes it easy to connect to the CKD module connection component. High stability Stable detection, unaffected by fluctuation is supply pressure, is possible with the air bridge circuit. Environment condition IP67 protective structure is resistant to spattering coolant and other substances. Special nozzle usable The detection distance is 3mm with the back pressure nozzle. Supply pressure P Operational explanation HPS body Compressed air pressurized on the supply port P passes through orifice R and R of the air bridge circuit, and flows to nozzles on the comparison and detection sides. When detection side nozzle clearance becomes smaller than the clearance set with the adjustment needle in the comparison side nozzle, back pressure reverses and presses up the diaphragm. This activates the proximity switch and generate an electrical signal. Back pressure type nozzle The detection air is diffused as the clearance widens, and returns to atmospheric pressure at 0.7mm when using the single-hole nozzle. However, if the outside circumference of the detection nozzle is shielded with air from another, detection air is not diffused as easily, making it possible to detect up to 3mm. 62 Cutting tool broken detection switch TLPS/MTLPS/UTLPS Series Pressure Overview The cutting tool broken detection switch TLPS Series is an air sensor used to detect broken or chipped drills and taps used in the metal machining line. detected nozzle unit is used for the detection nozzle to match the cutting tool. This switch is also used in an adverse environment, which is one of the features of the air sensor. Features Shorter machining tact Since noncontact detection makes it possible to detect the state while the tool is rotating, tact time is shortened compared to the conventional. Compatible with adverse environments Self-cleaning by the air nozzle enables use even in environments where coolant or swarf scatter. -diameter drill and cutting edge chipping detection Chips are detected on a 0.3 small diameter drill or mm drill tip. Low air consumption This switch is used with low pressure so air consumption is reduced. (3R/min. (NR) at 50kPa) High stability Stable cutting tool breakage, unaffected by fluctuations in supply pressure, is detectable with the air bridge. Easy adjustment The highly accurate needle with lock mechanism with dial scale makes it possible to adjust the detection position easily with no worry of deviation. Modularization Modularization makes it easy to connect to the CKD module connection component. Example of cutting tool broken detection applications Nozzle unit fixed Detecting nozzles moving 98

63 TLPS Series Operational explanation Operational explanation Diagram of TLPS (facing) principle djustment needle Comparison side nozzle Proximity switch Drill R Supply pressure Injection nozzle Pressurized nozzle (Detection side) Diaphragm B R P Workpiece Monitor pressure gauge Detecting nozzles Two nozzles are used facing. small amount of detection air is passed from the nozzle pressurized through the TLPS switch, and exhausted from nozzles. Conversely, air injected from the injection nozzle collides with detection air. When air collides, the back pressure of the nozzle pressurized rises, and the proximity switch in the TLPS switch is activated, generating an electrical signal. If there is a drill or other object between facing nozzles, injection air is diffused and does not reach the nozzle pressurized, so the proximity switch in the TLPS is not activated. Pressure Cutting tool broken detection switch The difference of pressure when a drill is present and absent is amplified by the air bridge circuit. When expressed as a scale, the balance is the bridge type. The air bridge circuit detects micro-fluctuations in pressure highly accurately. If detected pressure when a drill is present is P, and the detected pressure when a drill is absent is P, then, djusted pressure = (P + P) / If the drill is present, then P is smaller than the adjusted pressure and the diaphragm lowers. If the drill is absent, then P is greater than the adjusted pressure, so the diaphragm rises, the proximity switch is activated, and an electrical signal is generated. 400g 400g g Spring scale Balance g 400g 400g 400g 400g g Cutting tool broken detecting switch 99

86 Pneumatic components (air sensor) Safety precautions lways read this section before starting use. Refer to Intro 67 for general precautions, and to " Safety precautions" in this section for details on each series. pressure switch PS Series Installation & djustment Pressure CUTION Setting pressure Pressure displayed on the scale is used as the reference. When setting pressure, refer to the separate pressure gauge. Pressure displayed on the scale is the value when the contact is off. To set the value when the contact is on, set the pressure displayed on the scale to a value smaller than that from which hysteresis has been subtracted. (refer to the chart below) If not set, operation may not take place at the set value. (Hysteresis refers to the pressure width from when the switch operates once with set pressure to when pressure drops and the switch goes off.) Operation chart Installation tmosheric pressure Hysteresis OFF ON Scale setting pressure pressure High pressure Do not drop or bump the panel during handling. Wire the lead so that the repeated bending strain and tensile strength are not applied to the wire. Failure to do so could lead to disconnection. Do not use this sensor near a strong magnetic field or large currant (large magnet or spot welder, etc.) or the sensor may malfunction. Do not pressurize or flush the atmospherics release port with air. Product performance could drop or the product could be damaged. The PS Series is equivalent to IP-65, but the installation direction is restricted to upward vertical. If water enters the atmospheric release port for atmospheric pressure from below, pipe an M3 joint and extend with tubing to where water will not enter. Do not plug the atmospheric release port or malfunction may occur. This port can not be used outdoors. Wiring Connection of lead wire () Do not connect the lead directly to the power supply. Connect the load serially. Failure to do so could result in lamp blowing or contact melting. () When using for DC, connect the brown wire to the + side and the blue wire to the - side. The light does not light if wires are connected in reverse. (3) When connected to the C relay or PC input, if half wave rectification is done with these circuits, the switch lamp may not light. In this case, the lamp will light if the switch lead polarity is reversed. Contact capacity Do not exceed the specified load voltage and load current range. Failure to observe this could result in problems such as lamp blowing and contact melting. The lamp may not light if the current is less than the rated current value. Contact protection () When using this sensor with a conductive load such as a relay, provide the contact protection circuit shown at right. The contact could melt if this protection circuit is not provided. () DC wiring exceeds 50 m or C wiring exceeds 0 m, the wiring capacity will be attained. rush current will occur, damaging the switch or shortening life. Install a contact protection circuit if wiring length is exceeded. 060

Refer to Intro 67 for general precautions, and to " Safety precautions" in this section for details on each series. If an alarm occurs in the diaphragm, fluid is discharged from the atmospheric release port to prevent fluid from entering electrical components. Pipe the atmospheric release port so no problems occur even if fluid is discharged into atmospheric pressure. Take appropriate means to prevent coolant fluid or dust from entering from the port where it is released into the atmosphere. To wire the switch, loosen cover tightening screws, remove the cover, and wire to the microswitch inside. Check that internal wiring does not touch moving sections, or switch accuracy could be adversely affected. The cover is made of BS resin, so avoid use in hot areas. Hold the port section when piping and installing. Design & Selection Installation & djustment Do not use this product in flammable atmosphere. The pressure switch does not have an explosive-proof structure. Never use in an explosive gas environment as explosions or fires could result. Pressure setting method Remove the cap on the top of the cover, loosen the nut, and set pressure with the adjust screw. The set pressure rises when the nut is turned to the plus (+) side and falls when turned to the minus ( ) side. (Required tools: 3m/m wrench, flat-tip screwdriver) Fix with a nut after the setting. Scale is for reference. Scale error: within ±0.05 MPa Use a separate pressure gauge for confirmation when precise setting is required. Use for applications, or at load currents, voltages, temperatures, impacts or sites excluded from the specifications could result in damage or malfunctions. This product cannot be used with high-pressure gas. This product is not approved under High-Pressure Gas Safety Laws. Do not use this product with high-pressure gas. Do not use this product in flammable atmosphere. The pressure switch does not have an explosive-proof structure. Never use in an explosive gas environment as explosions or fires could result. Care must be taken for internal voltage drop. When using with a voltage less than specified voltage, the pressure switch may be activated correctly, but the load may not function correctly. Check the load's working voltage, and check that the following expression is satisfied: Power voltage - Internal voltage drop > Load operation voltage CUTION This product self-diagnoses the internal circuit immediately after power is turned ON, so pressure is not detected immediately, Set the control circuit so signals are ignored for two seconds after power is turned ON. Power supply ON seconds OK Light (LED) Design & Selection This product's overcurrent protection turns the output OFF when an overcurrent is detected. However, output repeatedly turns ON a short time at a set cycle. This causes power voltage to fluctuate and may adversely affect peripheral devices. Determine the setting taking error caused by accuracy and temperature characteristics into consideration. Take care when using this product for an interlock circuit. When using the pressure switch for an interlock signal required high reliability, provide a double interlock by installing a mechanical protection function or a switch (sensor) other than a pressure switch as a guard if problems occur. Execute inspection regularly to check that the normal operation is done. Take the following countermeasures to prevent malfunction caused by noise. Insert a line in the C power supply line. Use a surge suppressor, such as a CR or diode on the inductive load (solenoid valve, relay, etc.), and remove noise where generated. Separate wiring from strong magnetic fields. Connect wiring with shielded wire. Ground the shield wire on the power supply side. Working environment Check the temperature of fluid being measured and the environmental temperature in piping. When wiring CUTION Use a DC stabilized power supply within the rating that is insulated from the C power supply. noninsulated power supply could result in electrical shock. If the power supply in not stabilized, the peak voltage could be exceeded, damaging the product or compromising accuracy. Stop the control device and machine devices and turn power OFF before wiring. Starting operation immediately after wiring could result in unpredictable operation and hazards. Do an energized test with control devices and machine devices stopped, and check switch data and unit settings before starting operation. Turn power OFF before wiring this product. Discharge static electricity charged in human body, tool or equipment before and during operation. Use a stabilized noise-free power supply with a ripple voltage of % or less. Install the product and wiring as far away as possible from sources of noise such as power distribution wires. Take separate measures against surge generated from inductive loads that enters the power wire. + Installation & djustment The CPD power supply is a DC stabilized power supply completely isolated from the C primary side. Switch data can be set to values that exceed the rating range, and to unrealistic values, and operation and accuracy at these values are not guaranteed. Confirm that settings enable the target operation. Ensure the following difference between data and B to stabilize operation: Operation mode Hysteresis operation Window operation Do not set as follows Differential of data 0.MPa and over 0.3MPa and over data = data B ON point = OFF point Precautions for protection functions This product's protective functions are not effective when it is unpacked or during installation. The protective functions are effective when the product is correctly installed, wired, and piped. Provide protection so water and other substances do not come in contact until installation is completed. Wire and pipe the product after fixing it at the installation site. Check surrounding safety and that water and other substances do not come in contact before starting wiring. Continue to provide protection after the product is connected. (The current could leak at the connection section, and water could run along the cable and enter the case.) WRNING Do not apply overcurrent. If overcurrent flows to the pressure switch because of a load short circuit, etc., the pressure switch will be damaged and could also ignite. Provide an overcurrent protection circuit, such as a fuse, for the output wire and power cable as needed. CUTION This product must not be disassembled. The product could be damaged or performance compromised if this product is disassembled. CKD does not guarantee performance after disassembly. Remove the entire installation section (pressurized port section) when replacing or moving this product. Stop machinery and equipment, then check the safety before operating the product. CPD detects every approximate.5msec. The display is update 4 times a second and cannot track fast pressure changes. The switch could therefore start operating at the quickly changing pressure even through the display does not indicate the switch setting. During Use & Maintenance The case is made of resin. Do not use solvent, alcohol, or detergent in cleaning, or resin could absorb it. Wipe contaminations with a well wrung rag, etc., after soaked in weakened neutral detergent. Care must be taken for disconnection and reverse current caused by wiring resistance. When other devices, including pressure switches, are connected to the same power supply as the pressure switch, and the output cable and power cable's minus side are short-circuited or the power supply's minus side is disconnected to check operation of the input device from the control panel, reverse current could flow to the pressure switch's output circuit and cause damage. 100 CPD Series During Use & Maintenance CUTION Take countermeasures as followings to prevent damages caused by reverse current. () void centralizing current at the power cable, especially the minus side power cable, and use as thick wire as possible. () Limit the number of devices connected to the same power supply as the pressure switch. (3) Insert a diode in serial with the pressure switch's output cable to prevent reversal of current. (4) Insert a diode in serial with the pressure switch's power cable minus side to prevent reversal of current. Care must be taken for surge current leading. When the power is shared with inductive loads that create surge current such as pressure switches, solenoid valves or relays, if the circuit is closed with inductive loads activated, surge current could lead to the output circuit, causing damages. If the pipe is clogged, remove the hexagon socket taper screw plug on the back, and clean out the pipe. fter cleaning out the pipe, wind sealing tape or apply sealant, and tighten with an appropriate torque. Catch a wrench on the metal section when tightening. () Separate the power supply for the output comprising the inductive load, such as the solenoid valve and relay, and the input, such as the pressure switch. () If separate power supplies cannot be used, directly install a surge absorption element for all inductive loads. Remember that the surge absorption element connected to the PLC, etc., protects only that device. (3) Connect a surge absorption element to the following places on the power wiring as shown below as a measure against disconnections in unspecific areas: Input components Input components Input components PC When components are connected with connectors, if a connector is dislocated during energizing, the output device could be damaged because of the reason above. 117 PPE/P/PPX/PPD/PPS Series Installation & djustment WRNING void incorrect connection. n incorrect connection may cause a fatal error not only to this product but also peripheral devices. DC power not insulated from C primary side may damage the product and power, so an electric shock could occur. Do not use the product in this case. CUTION Do not use the product where the product is exposed to direct-sunlight or may come in contact with water or oil. Flash air pipe connected to sensors before connecting. Prevent pipe from catching tips of sealing tape when piping. Correct pressure control is not possible if the exhaust port is plugged. Release this port into the atmosphere. pply adequate torque when connecting pipes. To prevent air leakage and screw damage. First tighten the screw by hand to prevent damage to screw threads, then use a tool. Port thread Tightening torque N m M3 0.3 to 0.6 M5 to.5 Rc/8 3 to 5 Rc/8 (resin) to.5 Care must be taken for protection of body and lead wire. Do not bump or drop the main unit, or apply excessive bending or tensile strength to the lead because the lead could be disconnected. Connect and wire bending-resistant material, such as robot wire material, for the movable sections. Wiring Turn power OFF before wiring this product. Discharge static electricity charged in human body, tool or equipment before and during operation. Use a stabilized noise-free power supply with a ripple voltage of % or less. Voltage 4V Ripple ratio % = % of 4V = 0.4 V Time 0.4V Turn the power on and off at the quick rising and falling edges of voltage. If the rated voltage is not reached, the sensor could malfunction. In some cases, the sensor could not recover after the rated voltage is reached. Reset the power in that case. Even if the voltage drops temporarily, shout down the power once, then turn ON the power again. Install the product and wiring as far as possible from noise source such as a strong electric line. Take separate measures against surge generated from inductive loads that enter the power supply. Do not operate the control unit, machinery or equipment immediately after wiring. Due to wrong setting, signals not expected could be outputted. First stop control unit, machinery and equipment, while energize these to test. Set the target setting after test. Stop machinery and equipment, and check safety before setting switch output. Operate keys manually. Sharp instruments, such as knives or screwdriver, contacting plastic film on the operation section could damage film and compromise its protective functions. Piping Use the recommended tube for the push-in joint, and connect to the assembled push-in joint after flushing. * Recommended tube: 6mm O.D. CKD F-506, U-9506, etc. pply seal tape or sealant on the threaded joint, and screw in while taking care not to tighten excessively. pply a spanner on the metal section to tighten. (Only PPE and PPD-R * D-6 have a resin section) When winding sealing tape, wind from mm and over inward from the end of threads on the pipe. * If sealing tape protrudes from the end of pipe threads, it could be cut when the joint is screwed in and cut pieces could get inside and cause problems. Limit the pipe length to m, and check that excessive tensile strength or impact is not applied. If the tube is too long, unpredicted tensile strength could be generated from tube weight, and by vibration and impact. Fix or relay the tube to the machine or equipment midway so that tube weight is not applied. void connecting the output for a relay contact, operation switch, or other component output in parallel with the PC to the product's output, or short-circuit the input terminal of the PC to which this product is connected with the power supply cable's minus side to test the input device, or the output circuit of this unit could be damaged. 118 PPE/P/PPX/PPD/PPS Series Pressure CUTION Some models have a push in joint for the measured pressure port. Check the perpendicularity of the tube side, and check that there are no scratches, indents, or dirt near the end. and compressed air are measured. Check that water and dirt do not enter the tube during piping. WRNING Do not apply overcurrent. If overcurrent flows to the pressure switch because of aload short circuit, etc., the pressure switch will be damaged and could also ignite. Provide an overcurrent protection circuit, such as a fuse, for the output wire and power cable. CUTION Do not disassemble the products. The product could be damaged or performance compromised if this product is disassembled. CKD does not guarantee performance after disassembly. Remove the entire installation section (pressurized port section) when replacing or moving this product. With the PPD-*-IF-* type, the case must be removed during initial assembly. Take special care in handling. (Be sure to follow assembly methods and precautions given in the instruction manual enclosed with the product.) Stop machinery and equipment, then check the safety before operating the product. With PPD/PPD3/PPS, pressure is detected 00 times per second, but this display is updated 4 times a second, and cannot track fast pressure changes. The switch could therefore start operating at quickly changing pressure even when the display does not indicate the switch setting. The case is made of resin. Do not use solvent, alcohol, or detergent in cleaning, or resin could absorb it. Wipe contaminations with a well wrung rag, etc., after soaked in weakened neutral detergent. Installation & djustment During Use & Maintenance Care must be taken for disconnection and reverse current caused by wiring resistance. 127 PPD(-S)/PPD()/PPD3(-S) Series pressure switch and sensor PPD (-S), PPD-, PPD3 (-S) CUTION This product self-diagnoses the internal circuit immediately after power is turned ON, so pressure is not detected immediately. Set the control circuit so signals are ignored for seconds after power is turned ON. This product's overcurrent protection turns the output OFF when an overcurrent is detected. However, output repeatedly turns ON a short time at a set cycle. This causes power voltage to fluctuate and may adversely affect peripheral devices. When using this product for compressed air containing water or oil, use the PPD (3)-S (stainless steel diaphragm sensor specifications) with increased corrosion resistance. (nalog output type voltage waveform) R0N/ R0P R03N/ R03P R0N/ R0P Power supply Voltage (V) Voltage (V) Voltage (V) ON seconds OK 5.37 Pressure (kpa) 5 Pressure (kpa) 5 3 Pressure (kpa) Install the PPD (3)-S on a frame or panel connected to the frame ground F.G., and if necessary, directly connect from the PPD (3)-S port to the F.G. When leading fluids in from an external device, connect via a relay joint connected to the F.G. (To provide safety when using conductive fluids) Design & Selection Relay joint The PPD (3)-S power supply is a DC stabilized power supply completely isolated from the C primary side. Connect either the + side or - side of the power to the FG. variable resistor (voltage limit 40 V) is connected between the internal power circuit and port installation section of this PPD (3)-S to prevent dielectric breakdown of the sensor. Do not conduct withstand voltage or insulation resistance tests between the PPD (3)-S's internal power supply circuit and port installation section. Disconnect the PPD (3)-S wiring if this type of test must be done. n excessive potential difference between the PPD (3)-S power supply and port installation section could burn internal parts. fter installing, connecting, and wiring the PPD (3)-S, electrical welding of the device or frame, or short-circuit accidents, etc., could cause welding current, excessive high voltage caused by welding, or surge voltage, etc, to run through the wiring, ground wire, or fluid path connected between the above devices. This could damage wires or devices. Do work such as electrical welding after removing this device and disconnecting all electric wires connected to the F.G. Care must be taken to entry of water and drain. The PPD (3)-S has a stainless steel diaphragm pressure sensor that cannot be damaged by water. However, when vacuum is broken after checking vacuum suction, drainage in the water and air could collide with the pressure sensor. The water's rush inertia could damage the pressure sensor and prevent the correct pressure from being indicated. If water or drainage could enter, connect a thin pipe to the PPD3, or install an orifice midway. Take special care when using the back ports on the PPD3-S 6B port. This has a diameter orifice in the pressure port. Take special care when using the back ports on the 6B if water of drainage could enter. Pressure Insulation frame F.G. Metal frame F.G. F.G. 128 PPD(-S)/PPD()/PPD3(-S) Series Installation & djustment Pressure CUTION Check the pressure range. If the pressure switch for low pressure range is incorrectly used for high pressure applications, this product could be ruptured or damaged, and a large amount of air could leak, creating a hazard. High pressure P0>P0>V0 R0>R03>R0 When using this product, check that the two keys are accurately installed at the base case and body case contact. (These keys must not be removed) (PPD and PPD-S only) Switch data can be set to values that exceed the rating range, and to unrealistic values, and operation and accuracy at these values are not guaranteed. Confirm that settings enable the target operation. Ensure the following difference between data and B to stabilize operation: Operation mode Hysteresis operation Window operation Do not set as follows void air blow The high pressure near the nozzle could back flow and exceed the product withstand pressure. This could result in rupture or damage. Lower the pressure of compressed air to less than the withstand pressure, or shield the flow path when blowing air. pad contact jig Remove humidity, dirt and contamination from the installation location. Select a flat installation surface. ny warp or bumps on the installation surface could damage the case or compromise protective functions. Excessive tightening of installation screws can result in similar damage. fter installation, do not bump the case or use the case as step. Even if there is no external damage apparent, this remains as stress that gradually forms cracks and further damage. Precautions for PPD- or PPD3 (sensor integrated type) Series This product's protective functions are not effective when it is unpacked or during installation. The protective functions are effective when the product is correctly installed, wired, and piped. Provide protection so water and other substances do not come in contact until installation is completed. Difference of minimum digits %F.S. 3%F.S. Data = Data B ON point = OFF point Wire and pipe the product after fixing it at the installation site. Check surrounding safety and that water and other substances do not come in contact before starting wiring. Continue to provide protection after the product is connected. (The current could leak at the connection section, and water could run along the cable and enter the case.) The atmospheric release port for atmospheric pressure is treated as a key point in ensuring this product's protective performance. Use the following tube, and release the end into the atmosphere at a dry environment with no barometric pressure difference. Recommended tube: Soft nylon tube Model no.fh-34 Urethane tube Model no. U-953, U-9504 <INPORTNT> Never apply pressure to atmospheric release port. If the inlet port for atmospheric release port pressure is pressurized, protective performance could be lost, and the case could rupture or pop off. Leave this port set at atmospheric pressure. Separate piping for atmospheric release port from other pressurized air piping by using different tube diameters or colors. Take sufficient means to prevent pressurized air from being applied. Even when protective performance is not required, if this product is installed in a humid environment with large temperature variation, dew condensation in the case is prevented by taking these measures. (Dew is fatal to the electric circuit.) Note that if this product in a control panel, pressurized to a positive pressure or negative pressure within a dry environment, the pressure difference could affect display accuracy. This product is intended to protect city water. Protection performance cannot be guaranteed for hot water, oil, coolant (nonwater soluble, water soluble), solvent, acid, alkaline, or chemicals, etc. These substances could cause solvent cracks to form on in the case's resin parts, the gasket to swell, the adhesive to melt and separate, and other problems. Note that if water that gets on the product freezes, the case could be damaged and protective performance lost. The sensor-separated display and sensor are adjusted as a set. The pressure value could deviate more than accuracy if parts from different lot numbers are used together. The connection on the PPD3-R*D sensor and joint can rotate, but operation could be obstructed if the section is repeatedly rotated during use. The protective structure is equivalent to IP65, but this product must not be used in an environment where it could come in contact with water. Check that cutting oil and coolant do not come in contact. 086

129 PPD(-S)/PPD()/PPD3(-S) Series CUTION This product has O ring seals and threaded joints. slight amount of air leaks (cm 3 /min. NR or less) is tolerated. When using working fluid other than air; nitrogen gas, etc., oxygen deficiency could be caused. Observe the following instructions. Use this product in well ventilated locations. Ventilate the work area when nitrogen gas is being used. Inspect piping regularly, so nitrogen gas piping does not leak. Fluids that could corrode the wet area material (*) or flammable, explosive, or toxic fluids could damage the sensor or main body. Check that fluid being measured does not freeze resulting in expansion or contraction of volume, that these elements do not solidify and stick due to drying, that solid elements do not accumulate, that accumulated fluid does not be decomposed, and that the product is not clogged by dirt. When using inductive fluids, if fluid stays in the middle of piping at low pressure ranges, pressure generated, preventing proper measurement. Fluids such as water or oil drainage could result in a water hammer caused by the fluid's inertial pressure, or a sudden pressure rise such as a surge pressure when the valve is turned ON and OFF, etc. Before installing, use a highly responsive pressure sensor and check that these do not exceed the guaranteed withstand pressure even instantly. Pressure exceeding the guaranteed withstand pressure could damage the sensor or body.
