Safety, performace, ad depedability have bee give top priority i the desig of this product, makig it easy to maitai ad operate. DANGER GROUNDING THE GENERATOR (See Figure 1) To avoid the risk of shock or electrocutio, the geerator must be properly grouded. The ut ad groud termial o the frame must always be used to coect the geerator to a suitable groud source. The groud path should be made with 0.75m 2 size wire. Coect the termial of the groud wire betwee the lock washer ad the ut, ad tighte the ut fully. Coect the other ed of the wire securely to a suitable groud source. importat safety istructios Read ad uderstad all istructios. Failure to follow all istructios listed below may result i electrocutio, fire, ad/or carbo mooxide poisoig, which will cause death or serious ijury. Natioal Electric Code requires the geerator to be grouded to a approved earth groud. Before usig the groud termial, cosult a qualified electricia, electrical ispector, or local agecy havig jurisdictio for local codes or ordiaces that apply to the iteded use of the geerator. Do ot operate the geerator whe you are tired or uder the ifluece of drugs, alcohol, or medicatio. Keep all parts of your body away from ay movig parts ad all hot surfaces of the uit. Product users i some states, must comply with fire prevetio regulatios. This product is ot equipped with a spark arrestor. Check with the federal, areas, or local authorities i your area before use. Do ot touch bare wire or receptacles. Do ot use the geerator with electrical cords which are wor, frayed, bare, or otherwise damaged. Before storig, allow the egie to cool. Do ot operate the geerator i rai, sow, or wet weather. Empty fuel tak, close fuel valve, ad restrai the uit from movig before trasportig i a vehicle. Allow egie to cool for five miutes before refuelig. To reduce the risk of fire ad bur ijury, hadle fuel with care. It is highly flammable. Do ot smoke while hadlig fuel. Store fuel i a cotaier approved for uleaded fuel. Positio the uit o level groud, stop egie, ad allow to cool before refuelig. Loose fuel cap slowly to release pressure ad to keep fuel from escapig aroud the cap. Tighte the fuel cap securely after refuelig. Wipe spilled fuel from the uit. Never attempt to bur off spilled fuel uder ay circumstaces. Use oly authorised replacemet parts ad accessories ad follow istructios i the Maiteace sectio of this maual. Use of uauthorised parts or failure to follow Maiteace istructios may create a risk of shock or ijury. Maitai the uit per maiteace istructios i this Operator s Maual. Ispect the uit before each use for loose fasteers, fuel leaks, etc. Replace damaged parts. The geerators vibrate i ormal use. Durig ad after the use of the geerator, ispect the geerator as well as extesio cords ad power supply cords coected to it for damage resultig from vibratio. Have damaged items repaired or replaced as ecessary. Do ot use plugs or cords that show sigs of damage such as broke or cracked isulatio or damaged blades. 1

6 Eglish SPECIFIC SAFETY RULES Whe this geerator is used to supply a buildig wirig system: the geerator must be istalled by a qualified electricia ad coected to a trasfer switch as a separately derived system i accordace with NFPA 70, Natioal Electrical Code. The geerator shall be coected through a trasfer switch that switches all coductors other tha the equipmet groudig coductor. Failure to isolate the geerator from power utility ca result i death or ijury to electric utility workers. Exhaust cotais poisoous carbo mooxide, a colorless, odorless gas. Breathig exhaust ca cause loss of cosciousess ad ca lead to death. If ruig i a cofied or partially-eclosed area, the air may cotai a dagerous amout of carbo mooxide. To keep exhaust fumes from buildig up, always provide adequate vetilatio. Always use a battery-powered carbo mooxide detector whe ruig the geerator. If you begi to feel sick, dizzy, or weak while usig the geerator, shut it off ad get to fresh air immediately. See a doctor. You may have carbo mooxide poisoig. Place the geerator o a flat, stable surface with a slope of o more tha 4. Operate i a well-vetilated, well-lit area isolated from workig areas to avoid oise iterferece. Operatig the geerator i wet coditios could result i electrocutio. Keep the uit dry. Keep the geerator a miimum of 1m away from all types of combustible material. Do ot operate the geerator ear hazardous material. Do ot operate the geerator at a gas or atural gas fillig statio. Do ot touch the muffler or cylider durig or immediately after use; they are HOT ad will cause bur ijury. Do ot coect to a buildig s electrical system uless a trasfer switch has bee properly istalled by a qualified electricia. Do ot allow the geerator s gas tak to overflow whe fillig. Fill to 25mm below the top eck of the uleaded fuel tak to allow for fuel expasio. Check the vetilatio hole iside the fuel tak cap for debris. Do ot block the vet. Do ot smoke whe fillig the geerator with uleaded fuel. Allow the egie to remai i a shut-dow coditio for at least five miutes before addig uleaded fuel or oil. Do ot remove the oil dipstick or the fuel tak cap whe the egie is ruig. Pay close attetio to all safety labels located o the geerator. Keep childre a miimum of 10 feet away from the geerator at all times. The uit operates best i temperatures betwee 5 C ad 40 C with a relative humidity of 30~95%. Do ot operate the geerator at altitudes above 1000m. Whe usig extesio lies or mobile distributio etworks the total legth of lies for a cross sectio of 1.5mm 2 should ot exceed 60m; for a cross sectio of 2.5mm 2 this should ot exceed 100m. The oil level should always register withi the hatched area o the dipstick. The uit is equipped with a oil sesor which will automatically shut off the egie if oil level falls below a safe limit. 10 electrical geerator Capacity Make sure the geerator ca supply eough cotiuous (ruig) ad surge (startig) watts for the items you will power at the same time. Follow these simple steps. 1. Select the items you will power at the same time. 2. Total the cotiuous (ruig) watts of these items. This is the amout of power the geerator must produce to keep the items ruig. See the wattage referece chart at right. 3. Estimate how may surge (startig) watts you will eed. Surge wattage is the short burst of power eeded to start electric motor-drive tools or appliaces such as a circular saw or refrigerator. Because ot all motors start at the same time, total surge watts ca be estimated by addig oly the item(s) with the highest additioal surge watts to the total rated watts from step 2. There should be othig coected to the geerator outlets before startig its egie. The correct ad safe way to maage geerator power is to sequetially add loads as follows: 1. With othig coected to the geerator, start the egie as described later i this maual. 2. Plug i ad tur o the first load, preferably the largest load you have. 3. Permit the geerator output to stabilise (egie rus smoothly ad attached device operates properly). 4. Plug i ad tur o the ext load. 5. Agai, permit the geerator to stabilise. 6. Repeat steps 4 ad 5 for each additioal load. Eglish 6 Never add more loads tha the geerator capacity. Take special care to cosider surge loads i geerator capacity as previously described. CAUTION: Do ot overload the geerator s capacity. Exceedig the geerator s wattage/amperage capacity ca damage the geerator ad/or electrical devices coected to it. The safe use of this product requires a uderstadig of the iformatio o the product ad i this operator s maual as well as a kowledge of the project you are attemptig. Before use of this product, familiarise yourself with all operatig features ad safety rules. AC circuit breaker The circuit breaker is provided to protect the geerator agaist electrical overload ad ca be used to tur the geerator s electrical power o or off. air filter The air filter helps to limit the amout of dirt ad dust draw ito the uit durig operatio. choke lever The choke lever is used whe startig the egie. egie switch The egie switch is used i combiatio with the recoil starter grip to start the geerator. It is also used to tur the geerator off. fuel level gauge Cosult the fuel level gauge to determie the amout of fuel remaiig i the geerator. fuel tak 6 litres fuel valve The flow of fuel through the geerator is cotrolled by the positio of the fuel valve. groud termial The groud termial is used to assist i properly groudig the geerator to help protect agaist electrical shock. Cosult with a local electricia for groudig requiremets i your area. oil draiage bolt Whe chagig the egie oil, the oil draiage bolt is looseed to allow old egie oil to be draied. oil cap/dipstick Remove the oil fill cap to check ad add oil to the geerator whe ecessary. receptacles Your geerator has the followig sigle phase, 50 Hz outlets: oe 230 Volt AC, 16 Amp receptacle. These ca be used for operatig appropriate appliaces, electrical lightig, tools, ad motor loads. recoil starter grip The recoil starter grip is used (alog with the egie switch) to start the geerator s egie. DC TERMINALS The DC termials may ONLY be used for chargig 12 volt automotive type batteries. The termials are colored red to idetify the positive (+) termial ad black to idetify the egative (-) termial. The battery must be coected to the geerator DC termials with the proper polarity ( battery positive to geerator red termial ad battery egative to the geerator black termial). DC CIRCUIT PROTECTOR The DC circuit protector automatically shuts off the DC battery chargig circuit whe the DC chargig circuit is overloaded, whe there is a problem with the battery, or whe the coectios betwee the battery ad the geerator are improper. ASSEMBLY UNPACKING This product has bee shipped completely assembled. Remove oe ed of the box ad carefully slide out the geerator ad ay accessories. NOTE: The geerator is heavy. If you must lift the uit out of the box, get aother perso to help you ad lift with your legs, ot your back. Ispect the uit carefully to make sure o damage occurred durig shippig. Do ot discard the packig material util you have carefully ispected ad satisfactorily operated the product. Usig a geerator idoors WILL KILL YOU IN MINUTES. Geerator exhaust cotais high levels of carbo mooxide (CO), a poisoous gas you caot see or smell. If you ca smell the geerator exhaust, you are breathig CO. But eve if you caot smell the exhaust, you could be breathig CO. Never use a geerator iside homes, garages, crawlspaces, or other partly eclosed areas. Deadly levels of carbo mooxide ca build up i these areas. Usig a fa or opeig widows ad doors does NOT supply eough fresh air. ONLY use a geerator outdoors ad far away from ope widows, doors, ad vets. These opeigs ca pull i geerator exhaust. Eve whe you use a geerator correctly, CO may leak ito the home. ALWAYS use a battery-powered or batterybackup CO alarm i the home. If you start to feel sick, dizzy, or weak after the geerator has bee ruig, move to fresh air RIGHT AWAY. See a doctor. You could have carbo mooxide poisoig. APPLICATIONS This geerator is desiged to supply electrical power for operatig compatible electrical lightig, appliaces, tools, ad motor loads. BEFORE OPERATING the UNIT Positio the geerator o a flat surface before checkig fluid levels or addig fluid. CAUTION: Attemptig to start the egie before it has bee properly filled with oil will result i equipmet failure. checkig/addig oil See Figure 4. Egie oil has a major ifluece o egie performace ad service life. For geeral, all-temperature use, SAE 10W-30 is recommeded. Always use a 4-stroke motor oil that meets or exceeds the requiremets for API service classificatio SJ. NOTE: No-deterget or 2-stroke egie oils will damage the egie ad should ot be used. Uscrew the oil cap/dipstick ad remove. Wipe dipstick clea ad re-seat i hole; do ot re-thread. Remove dipstick agai ad check oil level. Oil level should fall withi the level idicator area o the dipstick. If level is low, add egie oil util the fluid level rises to the upper portio of the level idicator area o the dipstick. Replace ad secure the oil cap/dipstick. checkig/addig fuel See Figure 5. Check the fuel level gauge. If fuel is eeded, cotiue with the ext step. Remove the fuel cap. Fill the fuel tak to 25mm below the top of the fuel eck. Replace ad secure the fuel cap. NOTE: Always use uleaded gasolie with a pump octae ratig of 86 or higher. Never use old, stale, or cotamiated uleaded fuel, ad do ot use a oil/gas mixture. Do ot allow dirt or water ito the fuel tak. 9

14 Eglish usig fuel stabiliser Fuel gets old, oxidizes, ad breaks dow over time. Addig a fuel stabiliser exteds the usable life of fuel ad helps prevet deposits from formig that ca clog the fuel system. Follow fuel stabiliser maufacturer s directios for correct ratio of stabiliser to fuel. Add stabiliser to fuel tak, the fill with uleaded fuel followig previous istructios. NOTE: Fuel stabiliser ad uleaded fuel ca be mixed prior to fillig the tak by usig a gas ca or other approved fuel cotaier ad shakig getly to combie. Replace ad secure the fuel tak cap. Start ad ru the egie for at least 5 miutes to allow stabiliser to treat the etire fuel system. OXYGENATED FUELS do ot use e85 fuel. it will void your warraty. NOTE: Some covetioal petrol are bleded with alcohol or a ether compoud. This type of petrol is collectively referred to as oxygeated fuel; i Australia kow as Ethaol. The use of ethaol fuel, or fuels cotaiig ethaol is ot recommeded for this product. CAUTION: O a level surface with the egie off, check the oil level before each use of the geerator. AC OPERATION Uplug all loads from the geerator. Switch the AC circuit breakers to the OFF (O) positio. Start the egie (refer to "STARTING THE ENGINE" sectio. (later o this page) Switch the AC circuit breakers to the ON ( I ) positio. Plug i the appliace. DC OPERATION The DC termials may ONLY be used for chargig 12 volt automotive type batteries. CAUTION: The battery gives off explosive gases; keep sparks, flames ad cigarettes away. Provide adequate vetilatio whe chargig or usig batteries. CAUTION: Battery posts, termials ad related accessories cotai lead ad lead compouds. Wash hads after hadlig. 10 Coectig the battery cables: Before coectig the battery chargig cables to a battery that is istalled i a vehicle, discoect the vehicle groud battery cable from the battery egative (-) termial. Coect the positive (+) battery cable to the battery positive (+) termial. Coect the other ed of the positive (+) battery cable to the geerator positive (+) termial. Coect the egative (-) battery cable to the battery egative (-) termial. Coect the other ed of the egative (-) battery cable to the geerator egative (-) termial. Start the egie. (refer to "STARTING THE ENGINE" sectio) NOTE: Do ot start the vehicle while the battery chargig cable is coected ad the geerator is ruig. The vehicle or the geerator may be damaged. A overloaded DC circuit, excessive curret draw by the battery, or a wirig problem will trip the DC circuit protector (PUSH butto exteds out). If this happes, wait a few miutes before pushig i the circuit protector to resume operatio. If the DC circuit protector cotiues to go OFF, discotiue chargig ad see your earest authorised service cetre. Disoectig the battery cables: Discoect the egative (-) battery cable from the geerator egative (-) termial. Discoect the other ed of the egative (-) battery cable from the battery egative (-) termial. Discoect the positive (+) battery cable from the geerator positive (+) termial. Coect the other ed of the positive (+) battery cable to the battery positive (+) termial. Recoect the vehicle groud battery cable to the battery egative (-) termial. Startig the egie See Figures 6-8. NOTE: If locatio of geerator is ot level, the uit may ot start or may shut dow durig operatio. Tur the fuel valve to the ON positio. Move the choke lever to the START positio. NOTE: If egie is warm or the temperature is above 10 C, push the choke lever i to the RUN positio. Put the egie switch i the ON ( I ) positio. Pull the recoil startig grip util the egie rus (a maximum of 6 times). NOTE: Do ot allow the grip to sap back after startig; retur it getly to its origial place. Allow the egie to ru for 30 secods, the move the choke lever i to the RUN positio.

Discoect DC battery chargig cables. Tur the fuel valve to the OFF positio. Put the egie switch i the OFF ( O ) positio. Tur the key to "OFF" positio (Electric start oly). To stop the egie i a emergecy situatio: Put the egie switch i the OFF ( O ) positio. maiteace Whe servicig, use oly idetical Ryobi replacemet parts. Use of ay other parts may create a hazard or cause product damage. Oly the parts show o the parts list are iteded to be repaired or replaced by the customer. All other parts should be replaced at a authorised service cetre. GENERAL MAINTENANCE Keep the geerator i a clea ad dry eviromet where it is ot exposed to dust, dirt, moisture, or corrosive vapors. Do ot allow the coolig air slots i the geerator to become clogged with foreig material such as leaves, sow, etc. Do ot use a garde hose to clea the geerator. Water eterig the fuel system or other iteral parts of the uit ca cause problems that will decrease the life of the geerator. To clea the uit: Use a soft bristle brush ad/or vacuum cleaer to loose ad remove dirt ad debris. Clea air vets with low pressure air that does ot exceed 25 psi. Wipe the exterior surfaces of the geerator with a damp cloth. checkig/cleaning AIR FILTER See Figure 9. For proper performace ad log life, keep air filters clea. Lift the latches located at the top ad bottom of the air filter cover. Remove the cover ad set aside. Remove the filter elemets. If the filter elemets are dirty, clea with warm, soapy water. Rise ad let dry. Apply a light coat of egie oil to the elemets, the squeeze it out. Replace the elemets i the air filter uit. Replace the air filter cover ad close latches to secure. NOTE: Do ot ru the geerator without the air filter. Rapid egie wear will result. chagig egie oil See Figure 10. Remove the oil cap/dipstick. Place a cotaier udereath the oil draiage bolt to collect used oil as it drais. Uscrew the oil draiage bolt ad remove. Allow oil to drai completely. Reistall the oil draiage bolt ad tighte securely. Refill with oil followig the istructios i the Checkig/Addig Oil sectio. Reistall the oil cap/dipstick. Note: Used oil should be disposed of at a approved disposal site. See your local oil retailer for more iformatio. cleaig fuel sedimet cup See Figure 11. The sedimet cup prevets dirt ad water that may have gotte ito the fuel tak from eterig the carburetor. If the egie has ot bee ru for a log time, the sedimet cup should be cleaed before use. Tur the fuel valve to the off positio. Remove the sedimet cup usig a 10 mm wrech (ot provided). Remove the O-rig ad filter. Clea each of the parts i carburetor cleaer or ay comparable cleaig product. Reistall the filter, O-rig, ad sedimet cup. Tighte with wrech to secure. Retur the fuel valve to ON positio ad check for leaks. spark plug maiteace See Figure 12. The spark plug must be properly gapped ad free of deposits i order to esure proper egie operatio. To check: Remove the spark plug cap. Clea ay dirt from aroud base of spark plug. Remove spark plug usig wrech provided. Ispect spark plug for damage, ad clea with a wire brush before reistallig. If isulator is cracked or chipped, spark plug should be replaced. NOTE: If replacig, use the followig recommeded spark plugs or equivalet: Champio RN11YC or NGK BPR6ES. Seat spark plug i positio; thread i by had to prevet cross-threadig. Tighte with wrech to compress washer. If spark plug is ew, use 1/2 tur to compress washer appropriate amout. If reusig old spark plug, use 1/8 11

16 Eglish to 1/4 tur for proper washer compressio. NOTE: A improperly tighteed spark plug will become very hot ad could damage the egie. CLEANING THE EXHAUST PORT AND MUFFLER Depedig o the type of fuel used, the type ad amout of oil used, ad/or your operatig coditios, the exhaust port ad muffler may become blocked with carbo deposits. If you otice a power loss with your petrol-powered tool, you may eed to remove these deposits to restore performace. We highly recommed that oly qualified service techicias perform this service. Trasportig Tur egie switch OFF ( O ). Close the fuel valve. Make sure egie ad exhaust of uit is cool. Keep uit level to prevet fuel spillage. Do ot drop or strike uit or place uder heavy objects. spark arrestor Product users i some areas, must comply with fire prevetio regulatios. This product is equipped with a spark arrestor. draiig fuel tak / carburetor Whe ot usig a fuel stabiliser, draiig the fuel from the tak ad carburetor before storage may help prevet gum deposits i the fuel system. DRAINING THE FUEL TANK See Figure 13. Tur the egie switch off ( O ). Close fuel valve. Remove the fuel lie from the barb by squeezig the eds of the retaiig clip ad slidig the fuel lie off. Istall oe ed of a drai lie over the barb, ad place the other ed i a fuel cotaier large eough to catch the fuel beig draied from the tak. Ope fuel valve. Whe the fuel has draied from the tak, close the fuel valve ad reistall fuel lie o barb. draiig the carburetor See Figure 2. Tur the egie switch off ( O ). Close the fuel valve. Positio a approved fuel cotaier uder the carburetor drai screw to catch fuel; loose the screw. Allow fuel to drai completely ito cotaier. Retighte drai screw. NOTE: After draiig the fuel tak ad carburetor, start the egie ad allow it to ru util the uit rus out of fuel.
