ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS / DUTIES: (Refer to Appendix 1 for reasoning) (% based on 8-hour workdays) 1 GROUNDS WORK: Cares for and maintains lawns, flower beds, shrubs and grass areas by watering, mowing and edging as appropriate; renovates lawns and large grass areas; cuts, trims and prunes hedges, shrubs and trees as appropriate; excavates and cultivates soil; plants flowers, grasses, ground cover, shrubs and trees exposed to various climate and soil conditions; may plant or lay sod; rakes leaves and grass trimmings off sidewalks, paths and other areas; applies fertilizer to turf and other vegetation; follows applicable rules and safety regulations; The following related duties were clarified: performs a variety of grounds maintenance and landscaping duties in the beautification of assigned grounds and landscaped areas; maintains dog park by sweeping hardscape, watering DG (decomposed granite), and re-distributing mulch; plants, cultivates, prunes, fertilizes, and irrigate flowers, trees, grass and shrubs; sweeps, picks up and disposes of cuttings, branches, leaves and other debris following assigned tasks; mows assigned lawn areas and athletic fields utilizing appropriate equipment; renovates lawns and large grass areas; and performs related duties as assigned. 2 EQUIPMENT OPERATION: Operates ground keeping equipment, including lawnmowers, edgers, hedge trimmers, groomers, forklifts, trucks and tractors; picks up, moves, distributes, delivers, sets up and disassembles a variety of equipment, parts, supplies, and furniture, including risers and portable stages, as required; follows applicable rules and safety regulations; It was clarified that incumbents do not set up furniture and that that function is performed by the Custodial staff. In addition, tractors, riding mowers, sweepers, and forklifts are primarily operated by Equipment Operator I and are optional for the Groundskeeper; The following additional related duties were clarified: Operates a variety of grounds maintenance equipment (i.e., chain saws, rakes, brooms, rototillers, hose, pressure washer, riding field groomer, hand tools, trucks, utility vehicles); operates grounds equipment to fill, level, roll and prepare grounds for planting and spreading fertilizer, sand, soil, mulch and other materials utilizing spray and other appropriate equipment; and perform related duties as assigned. 3 ATHLETIC FIELD / COURT MAINTENANCE DUTIES: Cleans and maintains baseball fields, tennis courts, and other City grounds; applies fertilizer to turf and other vegetation; The following related duties were clarified: performs a variety of duties related to the preparation of other athletic facilities including basketball courts, shuffle board courts, and soccer fields; levels and marks dirt fields and related areas as directed; may line fields if Field Attendant is not present; waters infield sweeps surrounding bleachers, dugouts, and parking lot areas; picks up debris; performs related duties as assigned. 4 POND MAINTENANCE DUTIES: Cleans and maintains ponds and other City grounds. It was clarified that the bulk of pond maintenance duties is contracted out and that incumbents primarily remove debris from pond and may assist Crew Leader transfer of fish or turtles to a nearby pond while draining is performed. Incumbent performs related duties as assigned. 5 PLAYGROUND MAINTENANCE DUTIES: Cleans and maintains playgrounds and other City grounds; The following duties were clarified: performs visual inspections of equipment; sweeps sand off surrounding areas; picks up trash and debris; back-fills landing from slides and climbing equipment; performs quick rakes on a daily basis and fine rakes on a weekly basis; cleans spills; assists Crew Leader repairs of equipment (i.e., swings); and performs related duties as assigned. 6 TRASH / DEBRIS DUTIES: Picks up plant debris, litter and trash; empties trash cans; It was clarified that because contractors empty trash cans, incumbents primarily pick up debris and litter off ground of assigned areas including driveways, parking lots, playgrounds, parks, and athletic field and courts; and performs related duties as assigned. 65% to 100% of the shift, 2,3,5,6,9 100% of the shift, 1,3,4,5,6,7,9 Zero to 90% of the shift, 1,2,6,7,9 Zero to 35% of the shift, 2,6,7 Zero to 25% of the shift, 1,2,6,7 20% to 40% of the shift, 1,2,3,4,5 Groundskeeper / August 2010 Page 2 of 13

3 7 MINOR REPAIR AND MAINTENANCE DUTIES: Performs minor repair work involving basic carpentry and cementing, as assigned; maintains and adjusts irrigation systems; cleans sprinkler heads; cleans and maintains playgrounds and other City grounds; The following related duties were clarified: performs minor preventive maintenance work and minor repairs on grounds equipment by checking fluids and ensuring proper lubrication of grounds equipment; The following was also clarified: incumbent may assist an irrigation technician replacing sprinkler heads and performing minor irrigation repairs; or assist a Crew Leader cementing a barbeque post and other repairs; and performs related duties as assigned. 8 REPORTS / LOGS / RECORDS: Maintains logs, records and reports; It was clarified that incumbent completes a vehicle inspection checklist; and performs related duties as assigned. 9 DRIVING: It was clarified that incumbent drives a City vehicle in assigned area. It was also clarified that incumbent is not required to operate driving grounds equipment (i.e., riding mower, sweeper, tractor), as those duties are performed by Equipment Operators.
