2 The Mechanic Helper Truck Service Center is responsible for completing service work on trucks and vans used throughout the HISD. The Mechanic Helper documents any problems or damage noted on the body of the vehicle. The Mechanic Helper must be able to communicate with the Parts Person in the Truck Service Center in order to obtain the necessary parts to complete service work. The worker completes service work and takes the serviced vehicle out after completing work for road testing. The worker also completes some generalized paperwork. This paperwork basically denotes all parts and equipment used to service the vehicle and also how much time it took to complete the work. The Mechanic Helper Truck Service Center is also required at times to go out and complete road service calls for flat tires and other associated problems. The Mechanic Helper works in conjunction with the Mechanic. The Mechanic Helper could be considered an understudy of the Mechanic, although the physical requirements of the job are the same. This pull is completed in one of two ways: with the worker squatting next to the tire and using bilateral upper extremities with the forearms in supination and lifting up on one side of the tire to stand the tire erect so it can be rolled from one spot to another OR by using bilateral upper extremities with the worker stooping next to the tire with one forearm in pronation and the other in supination and gripping the tire with the hands to stand the tire erect. After the tire is erect, it is rolled from one spot to another using bilateral upper extremities, with one pronated grip and one neutral grip at the top of the tire, to balance it while pushing it over gravel or concrete terrain. The peak force required pull on a pry bar to lift an 11R 22.5 tire is 70.4 pounds. This pull is completed with bilateral upper extremities utilizing a neutral grip, where the hands are wrapped around the bar stacked one on top of the other. The end of the pry bar closes to the tire is hooked into the metal wheel for leverage. This pull is used to lift the tire off the ground and stand it erect. The peak force required to push a 16-inch heavy-duty brake drum when sliding the drum across the concrete floor of the shop is 70.6 pounds. This push is generally completed with one hand, while the worker is squatting down next to a vehicle that is lifted on a hoist, with the forearm in pronation and the writs extended. The peak force required to pull a 16-inch heavy-duty brake drum when sliding the drum across the concrete floor of the shop is 45.4 pounds. This pull is generally completed with one hand, while the worker is squatting down next to a vehicle that is lifted on a hoist, with the forearm in pronation, the wrist slightly flexed, and using a modified palmar pinch to grasp the edge of the drum. The weight of a 16-inch brake drum used on heavy-duty vehicles is 96.6 pounds. This break drum is gripped bilaterally with the hands utilizing a neutral grip.
