Responsible for picking up and delivering various materials to job sites at schools and administrative buildings in the Houston Independent School District. Product /Workplace Descriptions The work of a Truck Driver with Houston Independent School District is performed in a school district involved primarily in the education of school-aged children and students grades Kindergarten through twelfth grade. The specific department in which the duties are performed is the Facilities Management and Operations department. The heaviest weight lifted by a Truck Driver generally does not exceed 20 pounds when performing the job. The frequency of lifting over the course of a normal workday would be classified as occasional. It is also important to understand that the heavier weights are lifted only on an occasional basis and that weights lifted at greater frequencies are lighter in nature. Pull Forces The physical demands of pushing and pulling take into consideration the force(s) required to overcome inertia. The highest pull force required to overcome inertia was measured at 83.4 pounds and was required to lift up a trailer ramp off the ground. The pull force required to overcome inertia to pull up on a ramp (lift the ramp) off the back of a heavy equipment trailer is 70.2 pounds. This pull is at times completed with bilateral upper extremities with a pronated, supinated, or neutral grip from a height of 3-7 inches above the ramp with the worker squatting over the ramp. 2 extremities with supinated grip and a stooped posture with a maximum horizontal displacement of 22 inches from the ramp. When pulling on the ramp from the side of the ramp, the pull originates at 38 inches above the ground. The pull force required to overcome inertia to lift up a ramp off the ground 83.4 pounds. This pull is completed with bilateral upper extremities with a pronated, supinated, or neutral grip from a height of 3-7 inches above the ground with the worker squatting over the ramp. This type of pull is completed after the piece of equipment has been placed on the ramp and the ramp is removed from the ground. Work Environment The work of a Truck Driver with Houston Independent School District is performed indoors and outdoors in a school system environment. The worker spends a majority of the work day in a truck transporting materials and equipment to job sites. The worker must be able to tolerate hot and cold temperatures to complete work related tasks and activities. The worker is required to wear a uniform consistent with the nature of the work. Tools and equipment used by the Truck Driver include, but are not limited to the following: truck, loads of gravel/dirt, heavy equipment, trailers, paperwork.
