2 Entering vehicle Alight from vehicle Critical Steps in this Activity Potential Hazards Risk Controls Perform vehicle check as per defect report Slip and fall whilst entering cabin Hand, arm or body crushed between door and door frame whilst entering, particularly in strong winds Slip and fall whilst leaving cabin, ankle injuries resulting from standing on loose stones or equipment Hand, arm or body crushed between door and door frame whilst entering, particularly in strong winds Check that ground surface is free from loose rocks, tools and other items, prior to entering the truck. Use steps and grab handles provided to maintain 3 points of contact at all times. Control movement of door with arm, shoulder and bottom to prevent door slamming against body in high winds. Alight in reverse manner to entering vehicle - 3 points of contact must be maintained at all times. Use steps and grab handles provided. DO NOT JUMP from the cabin to the ground. Look for uneven ground, water, slippery surfaces or loose items Ensure that the door is not opened into path of pedestrians or vehicles Defect book to be filled out. Any defects reported to supervisor. DO NOT drive if defect makes the vehicle unroadworthy Trip hazards to be removed from parking area whenever observed. Mud, oil spills and leaks and other slippery deposits to be cleaned up immediately Requirements for equipment, vehicles, personnel, crushed rock, asphalt and other consumables determined SWP 053 Key OHS Public Health and Safety # Environmental $ Quality Page 2 of 9

3 Perform vehicle check Manufacturers requirements. Greasing implement Checks, repairs or changing blades Crushing and falls whilst checking auxiliary engine Struck by projections from vehicles Struck by projections from vehicles When conducting checks, raise the body and ensure that the safety support props are engaged in the locked position Climb up using the steps and stand on the platform supporting yourself Ensure that the engine is switched off and you do not touch any hot or moving part of the engine Step down in the reverse manner using steps and grabs, DO NOT jump. Maintain the S curve of the spine by squatting or kneeling on one knee, keeping back straight when greasing implements. Avoid bending back at all times To change/check/repair blades, the blades must be off and stopped before checking Operator must use gloves when changing blades or removing items caught in blades Do not touch blades or motor directly after use; allow the machine to cool When changing blades lift base and wings of implement, using a safety stands (AS) underneath the base of the implement to ensure it will not collapse while underneath. 4 Connecting implements to tractor Driving Struck by projections from vehicles Awkward posture Struck by loose objects in the cabin Strike against interior of cab Collision with other vehicles Striking pedestrians Striking pedestrians & push bike riders public on footpath Damage to property Collision with other vehicles Refer to Manufacturers Operators manual Line tractor up and reverse as close as possible to the implement to be attached, using the plant mirrors Leave tractor in park or in gear prior to alighting. Use the fitted sleeve to attach the implement to the PTO of the tractor Under no circumstances should the PTO be engaged whilst changing implements Ensure the PTO sleeve is not rotating during operation. This process should be completed by the driver only once the tractor has been reversed, the motor should be turned off and hand brake engaged while the operator connects the implement (if the process is done with two people, there is a risk of the person connecting the implement being crushed or injured, through the operators feet slipping or accidentally accelerating). Second operator should not be standing between the tractor and the implement Adjust seat so that the driver is in the most comfortable position and able to operate ALL controls efficiently All objects must be stored in lockers Driver must wear seat belts at all times when vehicle is travelling Drive with due care and within the road rules. Approach designated crossings at appropriate speed and give way to pedestrians on crossings. SWP 053 Key OHS Public Health and Safety # Environmental $ Quality Page 4 of 9

5 Plan route Collisions at hazardous intersections Setting up site Schools and other areas of high pedestrian activity Injuries caused by flying objects Damage to vehicles Routes are planned to avoid known hazardous intersections, access issues and high traffic density or movement areas having regard to time of day. Before commencing duties, operator must undertake and/or consider: Inspection of area for: Foreign objects such as metals, rubble, stones, etc and remove from area Hazards tree stumps, roots and ditches operator to make themself familiar with these hazards and take care when mowing over or close by i.e. reduced speed on rough/uneven ground Conditions such as wet/slippery/dry and crumbly, steep slopes, the operator should ensure that he/she operates within their skill level, Comfort level and within the manufacturer s specification & operators manual. Ensure tractor is not operated beyond gradient meter and ensure the warning buzzer is set at manufacturers specifications. Gowenbrae / Creek lines Refer to gradient meter device Litter pick up any litter in the mowing area prior to mowing, to avoid any damage to equipment and present the area in clean and tidy manner. 6 Setting up site cont d Traffic management & signage - when operating slasher on main roads Parked vehicles only use tractor in areas which will not cause damage to vehicles Safety of public if oval / reserve is being used by the public, operator to discuss the oval booking with the group organiser or individual. If oval has been booked, operator is to arrange another time for the works to be undertaken. When operating tractor in an area close to bystanders or the public, operator should reduce speed and take precautions. Operating tractor and implement Fatigue Soft tissue injuries Operators should take a short rest and stretching break every hour. 8 Tractor implements: 3 Point Linkage Earthquake Purpose of implement is to aerate sportsgrounds Things to Note: Job should be rotated to avoid operator experiencing excessive vibration, i.e. one day on one day off Be aware of pipes and sprinklers when using implement and mark out the locations of these before commencing works. Howard Slasher Purpose of implement is to mow rough, long grassed areas. 9 Howard Stealth Slasher Purpose of implement is to mow parks and long grassed areas. Things to note: - Inspect area before hand for stumps, large rocks, branches or debris (which could damage the implement) Mega sod lifting frame Purpose of implement is to roll mega sods of turf Things to note: - Due to the amount of turning and of the back this task must be rotated between employees i.e. one day on one day off. Levelling frames Purpose of implement is to topdress and level sportsgrounds. Things to Note: - Be mindful of sprinklers and pipes on sportsgrounds when using implement and mark out the locations of these before commencing works. - Operate tractor at a slow speed to ensure blades are not broken when using implement. Turf Renovator Seeder / Spreader Purpose of implement is to spread seed on sportsgrounds Things to Note: - Lifting bags of seed into machine should be undertaken within you lifting limitations, call for assistance if needed - One person should lift bags to top of seeder, where the other person cuts bags and empties into machine (these tasks should be alternated between the two employees). - Operate tractor at desired application rates to ensure even cover. (Calibration) Pegasus / Stealth Purpose of implement is to mow sportsfields Things to Note: - Be mindful of sprinklers and pipes on sportsgrounds when using implement and mark out the locations of these before commencing works.
