Joe Buzzetta s son Joe gives the tour of his father s collection This years Spring Dust Off was well attended; 45 people were in attendance and most participated in the back roads drive as well as lunch at the Country House Restaurant. Members from the MG club and Triumph club also joined in this event. But the focus of the event was a tour of Joe Buzzetta s Porsche racing cars. His son Joe led the tour of the collection and included history about his father who still drives or better said, races in Vintage Racing such as Lime Rock Park in Connecticut. The showroom was also filled with posters, plaques, trophies and other racing regalia. Again we thank Gerry Duff for volunteering and setting up the tour with Joe Buzzetta. A thank you also goes out to Mike Carroll, our 2nd Vice President & Concours Chairman for collecting the RSVP s and monies. The next event was the Vintage European Sports Car and Motorcycle Display hosted by the Stony Brook Community Church. This car show helped the church support it s various charities and missions. Members who attended this show always found it to be enjoyable and relaxing. Vehicles are judged by peoples votes with a Best Car and Best Motorcycle award. A new event was added to the calendar and organized by Mike Carroll. The Annual Long Island Antique Power Association Summer Show and cont. page, 3

2 Page 2 Believe it or not...f-type is a Go The front cover of the magazine Auto- Week for January 24, 2000 proclaimed in bold letters YEAY BABY printed over the photo of the F TYPE CONCEPT with the sub headline F- Type Concept Wows Detroit Auto Show. The reviews were, without fail, drooling over this possible introduction of a Jaguar sports car in the mould of the greatest of them all the E-Type. Ford canned it! Now 12 years and 4 months later at the New York show on April 4 they announced that the first real Sports Car since the demise of the E-Type in 1974 would go into production later this year and be available for sale mid In 1975 Jaguar went down the GT route with the launch of the XJ-S followed by the XK8 and the current XK which will remain in the line-up. Jaguar have tantalized us over the years with the thoughts of a true 2 seater sports car Nominally given the name F or would it be the XK F as the E in the USA became the XK E. The management of JLR and Tata have often expressed their desire to introduce such a car and even Ford showed some intent. In 1980 there was the XJ 41 project and the XJ 42 which was the convertible version. There was no great motivation to push these concepts to market and when Ford took over the project died. In 1999 a project was born that was known as the Roadster Project and this became the concept car that wowed the world at the 2000 Detroit show. The enthusiasm for the Concept F was strong in Ford management, the car was featured at Pebble Beach and the feasibility continued for a year when eventually on January 4th 2001 Jaguar announced The F- Type was a go The sale date was projected as 2004/2005. Now the Bean Counters entered the fray and it was declared that the business case for such a car was not as clear as originally thought. The project was not cancelled but put On Hold. It has been held right up to now and in the meantime BMW launched their interpretation of a sports car (No further comment) and Porsche their Boxster both racking up thousands in unit sales. So there is and was a market and Jaguar surely are not too late with their introduction. Principle in their era, and the F Type will hold true that same principle in its time, a time that is soon to arrive. Since the F Type is being promoted as a direct successor to the E Type it illustrates how important it will be to Jaguar s future. This was confirmed by the report of what Adrian Hallmark, Jaguar Car s Global Brand Director, had to say. The core appeal of Jaguar s cars is their sporting heart and that heart will beat stronger than ever before in the F Type. Its development is a vivid representation of the confidence and ambition of the Jaguar brand, and the desire of our engineers and design team to produce a world leader in a market segment that we have been absent from for too long. But no longer..the F Type is coming. Not many details of the car were released. It will be all Aluminum and a true two seat sports car. It will have a range of petrol engines including a new power plant family that they say will bring stunning performance. The camouflage test bed cars look like a cut down XK and perhaps that s just good camouflage because Jaguar say the design inspiration was the concept that caused such a sensation at the Frankfurt show. The C X16 and will have a strong resemblance to this. It is reported that Vehicle Line Director, Ian Holban said, The engineering development of the F Type has focused on delivering a heightened level of dynamic driving reward. We are excited about our progress to date and are looking forward to soon being able to demonstrate what we have achieved. The development schedule has moved to final on road testing with engineering prototypes leaving Jaguar s Castle Bromwich plant where the F Type will be produced. More details of the F will be released later in the year together with prices. Welcome to our Jungle.F for fearsome performance. By the Roving Reporter Michael Tate - Delaware Valley Jaguar Club The F will surely bring the younger Jaguar driver that they have been longing to entice which in turn will benefit the Jaguar Clubs of North America so everything is positive.jlr reported in excess of $1 billion in profit for 2011 and Jaguar sales are up 17% for the 1st quarter. They have launched an aggressive mind changing advertising campaign based not only on beauty but power.power to rock! As part of this it is said that Jaguar is overhauling its image ( pipe & slippers brigade) in a remake that includes significant changes to the logos the leaper leaping hood ornament and growler the fierce Jaguar face on the cars steering wheel! The company is investing over $300 million in bringing the F Type to market and it will create a further 1,000 jobs. At the press release in New York they did not have a concept car but photos of heavily disguised test vehicles. It is reported that Ian Callum, design director, had this to say, A true sports car needs to be pure in both its purpose and its form. To have the opportunity to produce such a car for Jaguar has been a privilege both for myself and for my team. There was a collection of early steam powered tractors, fire engines, stationary hit and miss engines and a display of race cars from the John Himes collection. Throughout the day owners demonstrated the pulling abilities of their tractors and competed for 1st place prizes in their weight/size class. There was also a parade of tractors on the field in front of the grandstand. Many of these vintage tractors were restored to their original condition just as we do with our cars. It was a fine demonstration of engines used for farms, factories, and road building! 7 Page 7 Triumph & Jaguar Clubs Combined Winery Run to Duck Walk Vineyards This year we tried to combined the two clubs Winery events. The Triumph club planned the event and the rally route to Duck Walk Vineyards with a starting point at the K-Mart parking lot at LIE exit 63. After some socializing the group made it s way out east with some making wrong turns but eventually all meeting up at Duck Walk Vineyards on the South Fork of Long Island. A box lunch was provided by Northport Caterers and a private tour of the vineyards and wine tasting. Attendance from the Jag club was small this year probably due to the last minute posting of the event. Next year s winery event will be different.
