A big thank you goes to Geoffrey Au and Sam Gadkar for designing, producing and donating the Jag Club logo static cling decals. Just peel off the paper backing and place them on the inside of your side windows or where ever they may fit. Jaguar has confirmed it will end its 15-year absence from the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The company's racing division plans to send the JaguarRSR XKR GT2 to race in the event, a first since an English racing team took 28th place recording a DNF in the 1995 Le Mans. Racing team RSR co-developed the new GT model with Jaguar in Coventry. The car makes use of a 550 bhp (557 PS / 410 kw) AJ liter V8 engine that gets the car to a 180 mph top speed. The engine is mated to a six-speed transmission and a CST transverse sequential transaxle from Hewland. Using an aluminum monologue, and light 18- inch wheels, the car's weight is held at 1,245 kg. The English auto manufacturer's cars have won the race seven times, including wins in 1951, 1953, 1955, 1956, 1957, 1988, and In what is now the company's 75th anniversary, Jaguar is hoping to pull out another Le Mans win this coming June. The car will also be used for the full 2010 calendar of the American Le Mans Series. Jaguar ended a five-year absence from motorsports last year.

2 Page 2 Spring Dust Off Brunch Review By George Stephani This year Ed LaGrassa has offered to organize the Annual Spring Dust Off at the beautiful historic Douglaston Club. Members once again enjoyed a delicious brunch surrounded by pat club photo boards of past events. Laurence Campbell, President, and George Stephani, Vice President spoke about up coming events and thanked Jaguar Huntington for their continued generous sponsorship of club events. The dealer had supplied brochures of the new XJ and invited club members to come by and test drive the new XJ. George Stephani presented a Jaguar company news magazine featuring a prototype XF all electric car. This caught the attention of everyone at the brunch. The brunch ended on a high note of promising to have at least one event per month from April to December and members have enthusiastically volunteered to help out with the club s planned events. Lets say you travel 10 miles on the L.I.E. At 55 mph it takes 5 minutes & 27 seconds. At 60 mph it takes 5 minutes. At 70 mph it takes 4 minutes & 17 seconds. At 70 mph you save 43 seconds and at 60 mph you save 27 seconds going over the 55 mph speed limit. Bottom line, not much in saving time but your gas mileage drops of very quickly over 60 mph. 4 Page 4 In Memoriam Charles Stretch Crisp Charles Stretch Crisp and his wife Pat at the 2008 Vanderbilt Concours It s with great sadness that we report the passing of Charles Stretch Crisp, one of Jaguar s mot enthusiastic owners and a member of the Nation s Capital Jaguar Owners Club, D.C. He was an attendee at two of our recent Concours at the Vanderbilt. Stretch passed away suddenly on June 5th while attending the Delaware Valley Jaguar Club Concours in Westtown, PA, ironically as he was accepting a first place award for his 100 point XJRS Jaguar. Stretch was just 66 years of age. Jaguar was one of stretch s passions and he owned three of them, a 1971 Series 2 E-type roadster, and two 1993 special edition XJRS roadsters. He was especially proud of the XJRS cars and championed them enthusiastically at many regional events and, of course, at his own Concours. At 6 feet, 5 inches, Stretch presented a rather imposing image alongside his cars. Onlookers marveled at Stretch s ability to gracefully emerge from his Jaguars, particularly the E-Type. Of Stretch, his daughter in law, Gail S.F. Cox, commented that He was having the time of his life after winning a perfect score for one of his prized Jaguars. He was doing what he loved with people he loved. In addition to his wife, Pat, Stretch Crisp is survived by his two sons, Charles B. Crisp of Miami and Ira W. Cox of Charlotte, N.C., a daughter, Kelly R. Crisp of Cheverly, and three grandchildren.

5 Page 5 BBQ Event is Picture Perfect By George Stephani The Club s BBQ meeting attended by 30 plus members was a real hit with the club. Adriana and Ralph Trimarchi proposed and hosted the event at Eaton s Neck private community Sluice Park & Beach; it was a picture perfect BBQ setting. The tables were arranged with appetizing culinary trays of food provided by the Trimarchi s favorite cater. Members also brought along dishes to share as well as some of their favorite BBQ meats. Some up coming events included the European Vintage Car Show at Stonybrook on Sunday, July 11th, The Garden Tour arranged be Dean Yoder in August, date to be announced, and the Pre-Concours Banquet at the Swan Club in Roslyn on Saturday, Sept, 18th, at 6:30pm followed by the Concours d Elegance and All British Car Show, Sunday, Sept,19th at the Vanderbilt Museum from 9am to 4pm. Jag Club Fall Rally, Sunday, Oct, 10th, location & time TBA. As the BBQ event started to wind down towards the end of the afternoon, Adriana had a go at kayaking with her son right off the beach and paddled around the harbor. She said it was such a delight and now hopes to get her own. The next club meeting will be held on Sunday, Sept, 12th, 2010, time of meeting TBA, at Mike and Barbara Carroll s home. ( See Calendar of Events on Page 3) We ask all who are coming to give them a call and ask what food or beverage they can bring to share The Sept, meeting will cover regular business and information about the Concours d Elegance car show, all those who have volunteered to help out at the show should attend this meeting for final instructions. An MG drives in to check out the Jags as members gather to check out the MG A beautiful black vintage MG rolled into the parking lot which drew a crowd of on lookers and the gentleman was invited to come to the Concours at the Vanderbilt. Briefly, club business was discussed along with up coming events. George Stephani announced that the club received a check towards the Concours d Elegance in the amount of $ from Jaguar Cars of North America. Every year we submit an application to JCNA for financial support from Corporate Jaguar who then determines the amounts given to the local clubs. This amount has increased from $ to $ over the years since the club has grown and become more active. Adriana and her son kayaking at the BBQ

6 Page 6 Worth Waiting For By Joel Joachim JDCLI I was eight years old and admiring my Uncle Al s 1968 Jaguar XKE. The color was British Racing Green with a Biscuit interior. It was the prettiest car I have ever seen. I was in awe and vouched to myself that one day I would own that car. Over the years, I would see this car on the highway, in a parking lot, and very often in movies (In Austin Powers, there was an XKE painted like a British flag). My love and desire to own this car grew each year. In college, my basketball coach asked us to write down some personal goals. One of my goals was to own a Jaguar XKE before I was fifty years old. I have never been a car fanatic, but there is something about this car that gives me goose bumps. I love the lines of it. This past year, forty years later, I was fortunate enough to realize my dream. After six months of looking for my car, I located one in Chase City, Virginia (the internet is a beautiful thing). A dentist, who owned the

7 car for the past twenty years, decided after 62,649 miles, it was time to part with it. I hired Southside British Cars (SBC) in Danville Virginia to inspect the car. A friend of mine, who has owned over fifty antique cars, reviewed the report and said he has never seen such a detailed inspection report. SBC spent four and one half hours going over every inch of the car and graded the car a solid seven out of ten. Luckily I have located a fantastic mechanic, K&S Foreign Car Repairs in Syosset. They are as anal about taking care of the car as I am. On Mother s Day in 2009, SBC delivered my car in an enclosed truck. The anticipation was killing me. Once the cover was removed from the car, I was finally able to see my new baby. I can honestly say that owning this car has exceeded my expectations. I have created a history book of the car. I have collected old repair bills from the previous owner as well as pictures of the car during his tenor. I have documented all the repairs that I have performed with pictures and original bills. I joined the Jaguar Club of Long Island and had a second set of keys made from a man who specializes in British Jaguar keys. I have collected numerous articles and even wrote to Virginia s Motor Vehicle Department to ascertain the owner prior to the dentist. I purchased unused Historical plates from 1973 and even bought a special floor for my garage. Owning this car has opened up a new world to me. I speak to other antique car owners and relish in the love and admiration they have for their respective cars. One of the unexpected perks of owning this car is that I am always given a great parking spot! Page 7

8 Page 8 Brief Tips for Jaguar Presentation The most important and often overlooked item to showing a car at a JCNA Concours is cleanliness. A common error is that most people think waxing and polishing makes a good entry. However, you receive NO extra points for how shiny your car is, but rather how clean it is. Simply stated, all judged areas of your Jaguar need to be as clean as possible. Be especially vigilant to the following common problem areas. Exterior Tar or sap specs. Paint Chips (untouched up chips are a greater deduction that repaired chips. However repaired chips are still deductible). Wax Residue (especially inside body seems & around rubber seals). Glass with streaks, smudges, chips, cracks, or swirls. Tires that are not black or clean (treads do not have to be perfectly clean). Dirt & grit on the road wheel surface & crevices. Above: 2009 Concours at the Vanderbilt Museum Interior Carpets not free from all lint, dirt, or stains. Inside of air vents (dusty). Wood with smudges or fingerprints. Inside of map pockets (lint, dirt, debris). Stains on seat belts. Rubber door seal torn, worn, or cut. Engine/Trunk (Champion Class Only) Hoses not clean and / or non Jaguar Engine block dirty. Area in front of radiator/radiator dirty (e.g. bugs) General dirt on components, metal work, etc. Under hood insulation dirty, worn, or frayed. Spare tire not clean, worn, and/ or not matching road wheels. Dirt, dust, or lint in trunk (boot). Battery and compartment area not clean.
