2 Description Fire damper (hereafter referred to as damper) is a fire cap of a ventilation shaft, designed to enable the damper blade to close the shaft based on a mechanic, thermal or electrical impulse and thus prevent the flames, heat and smoke from expanding. The type intended for explosive areas is in compliance with the European Community s directive no.94/9/ec and STN EN performance regulation for classification Ex II 2 G c IIB. Construction Arrangement The damper blade is made of calcium-silicate non-asbestos boards and situated in the damper s protective frame. The protective frame, or damper casing, consists of particles made from zinc-plated structural steel sheets. With square dampers the calcium-silicate board is also used for the flange connection which, together with the blade, prevents the fire and heat expansion. The damper is sealed by a passive sealing (to prevent the flow of smoke) and an active anti-fire sealing (to prevent a flow of smoke and heat when a fire occurs). Fire Dampers with a Manual Actuator The damper blade spontaneously closes based on a direct (mechanical or thermal) or distant (electrical) signal to the actuator. After that the damper blade is secured in a closed position to prevent possible opening. The damper is activated mechanically mainly while testing its functionality. The mechanism is activated by a thermal impulse after having reached, retained or exceeded the ambient temperature of 72 C with a tolerance of ±1.5 C for a period of 30 to 60 seconds, which causes the thermal fuse to unhinge and the actuating mechanism to close the damper blade. The damper is actuated electronically using an electromagnet, activated by an electrical impulse from a building s control system. The electromagnet releases the actuating mechanism, which then closes the damper blade. Servo-operated Fire Dampers The damper blades are closed using a servo, which closes the blade based on an electrical or thermal impulse. The servo may contain a thermal sensor which, after having reached, retained or exceeded the ambient temperature of 72 C with a tolerance of ±1.5 C, activates the servo and closes the damper blade within 20 seconds. Fire Dampers Seismic Types On demand we can deliver a 1a category of seismic types of fire dampers, together with a certificate of compliance with STN IEC and STN EIC performance regulations. Installation, Operation and Maintenance Fire dampers must be installed, operated and maintained according to the Installation, Operation and Maintenance manual. Every PK-I for explosive areas must be earthed after the installation! Operating Conditions The damper equipped with a manual actuator and a thermal fuse with a low-fusing solder may be situated in an area where the operating temperatures fall between the range of -10 to 68 C. The damper equipped with a manual actuator and an electromagnet may be situated in an area where the operating temperatures fall between the range of -10 to 40 C. The damper equipped with a servo may be situated in an area where the operating temperatures fall between the range of -10 to 65 C. IMPORTANT CAUTION: Adjust the fire damper to the working position OPEN by activating the servo. After opening and detention of the damper into the opened position using the crank, it will only be possible to close the damper by means of crank and can not serve properly! The active fire-proof sealing must not be exposed to direct contact with water. The maximum air flow speed is 12 m/s with purge air without mechanic or chemical contamination with uniform flow, without condensation, ice coating and ice. The maximum allowable pressure difference between front and back of the closed blade is 1200 Pa. The device is not actuated until the ambient temperature reaches 65 C. In terms of their construction, the dampers are designed for use with a horizontal or a vertical or beveled blade axis. Transportation, Storage & Operating Conditions It is necessary to transport the dampers by such means of transport that provide a cover and secured on pallets. When handling the dampers during transportation and storage, the dampers must be protected against damage and weather conditions. The damper blades must be in the CLOSE position. It is recommended to store these products in a closed, dry, area where the temperature falls within the range of -10 C to +50 C. The temperature during storage, transportation and operation must not exceed 65 C! Material Used and Disposal The product contains steel, zinc, calcium-silicate board, graphite fire-proof laminate, polyurethane foam and ethylene-propylene dry rubber. These are processed in compliance with the local regulations. The product does not contain any dangerous materials. Warranty The manufacturer provides a 24-month warranty period starting on the date of expedition. Appendix Any demands regarding deviations from the above mentioned technical specifications and conditions shall be discussed with the manufacturer. The manufacturer reserves the right to perform any modifications of the product without prior notice, provided that such changes have no effect on the quality and performance of the product. 4 Damper Embedding The embedding must always be performed according to the installation, Operation and Maintenance manual. Every PKI for explosive areas must be earthed after the installation! Damper Design Assessment (Calculation) of the Pressure Losses The dampers pressure losses are assessed by a calculation. The coefficients of the local pressure loss, which are related to the damper s nominal area a x b, or area corresponding with ød are tabulated. The pressure loss for a specific damper is calculated with the following formula: p z = pressure loss p z = ξ v L 2 x ρ 2 Actuation Using a Servo - types DV7 through DV9-T-W The damper blade position is adjusted using the Schischek ExMax-15BF servos. Function of the Servo: After having connected the servo to the source of electricity, the servo is set into its operating position while its spring stretches at the same time. This means that the damper blade s operating position is OPEN. After disconnecting the device from the source of electricity, or after the thermal fuse unhinges, the damper blade closes with the help of the spring s return energy disrepair. The thermoelectric actuating device FireSafe will unhinge in case the ambient temperature or the temperature inside the damper exceeds 72 C. There are two microswitches built in the servo by default which are set firmly to indicate the damper blades open and closed position.
