2 Intended use VAV control units are intended for supply and extract air systems, for automatic adjustment of the volume flow rate in the ventilation ductwork. By varying the air flow rate, the units allow to create individual climatic conditions for every space in the building, considering the occurrence of uneven loads in these areas, depending on the number of people in the space and variable external factors such as: heat gains as a result of exposure to sun of transparent and non-transparent barriers in the space. The devices RVP-R-Ex type provide high safety level and are intended to use in the places, in which there is possibility of explosive atmosphere occurrence, caused by gases, vapors, mists and air-dust mixtures. The devices RVP-R-Ex type are designed according to the directive ATEX 94/9/WE as the devices of group II category 2 intended to use in the explosion-hazard zones 1,2,21 and 22. The manufacturer's ATEX certificate is available for electrical components. Material and finish The casing and the control damper blade are made of galvanized steel sheet or, on special request, stainless steel The damper blade is equipped with rubber sealing, which provides the air tightness while complete closing of the damper. The damper blade axis is placed in the bearing made of the anti-static plastic or brass. The measuring blade is a measuring element. The blade is made of aluminum section with the impulse holes accordingly arranged within its precincts. The control-drive system of the VAV controller consists of the static differential pressure sensor, the actuator and the controller (the controller is placed beyond the explosion-hazard zone in accordance with the diagram 5) Principles of operation The principle of operation is based on the measurement of the volumetric air flow through the controller. In the controllers where measurement blade is used, the measurement is conducted with use of impulse holes. During the air flow through the measuring element, the pressure difference, dependent on the flow rate is created on both its sides. The signal from the orifices is transmitted to the pressure sensor with flexible impulse tubes. The pressure value on the orifice, shall be transmitted to the controller, where it is converted into a flow rate value and compared with the preset value. If the measured value is different from the preset value, the control blade actuator adjusts the blade into such position, that there would be no difference between the measured value and the preset value. 6 Control and drive system The parameter selection for the power supply sources in the facility depends on the selected time of rotation and the supply voltage rate. The attached current rates are the approximate values, because due to the unit construction, the power dissipation within the electronics may occur. The power input in the lockout position, regardless of the time, amounts max. 20W. The power consumption, because of the heater, fluctuates within the range from 5 to 12W. The heater is switched on when the engine does not work. At the time of starting up, the current value taken by the actuator amounts ca. 4,5A for 1sec (please take it into account while choosing the cables and power supply). Table 4.
