1 Fire damper pl-30 General characteristics Application Fire dampers prevent fire and smoke from spreading through ventilation ducts in buildings. The dampers are intended for use inside buildings and are installed into the openings of fire walls at the borders of fire compartments. The normal position of the dampers is open; in the event of a fire they automatically go into a secure closed position. During a fire, the increased temperature activates a fire seal that seals the blade and the housing against the intrusion of fire and hot smoke. In the event of a distant fire, a special seal prevents the passage of cold smoke, which additionally increases fire safety. +X +Y Dimensions +X +Y Description The circular fire damper consists of a mounted round blade of calcium silicate, an intumescent fire seal and a thermal release mechanism. The drive of the blade can be an electric actuator or manual spring. The laser welded, round housing made of zinc plated sheet metal contains a thermal barrier at the blade. The silicone sealing profile mounted on the blade enables the sealing of cold smoke. The special structure of the blade with a thickness of only 2 mm improves the energy efficiency of the damper. Belimo BKN communications module (optional) The placing of position 7.1 and 7.2 changes depending on the dimension of the damper. See the selection ordering key to view the markings of the supply voltage. The electric actuator enables remote triggering of the fire damper based on the closed circuit current principle. During normal operation, the actuator draws current continuously and holds the damper blade in the open position. The fire central triggers the damper by cutting off the current, and with the help of a precompressed spring in the actuator, the blade automatically, without external energy, moves into the secure, closed position. For additional safety, a temperature sensor with three thermal cutoffs (two in the duct, one for the surroundings), which permanently cut off the supply of voltage to the actuator and thus close the blade when the temperature exceeds 72 C, has been integrated. In the event of an accidental power failure, the blade closes, and when the power returns, the blade automatically opens. Two integrated, potential free switches enable the detection of open/ closed end positions. The version with the BKN communications module allows for a connection with the Belimo SBS communication protocol. Upon request, integration into other communications protocols, e.g. Belimo Ringbus, is also possible. As additional equipment, a junction box for easier connection of cables is also possible. Revision opening T1 End switch CLOSED (optional) and/or T2 End switch OPEN (optional) 4 T2 With the manual-spring drive, the blade must be manually moved into the open position by which the return spring is compressed. The open position is locked with the help of a thermal fusible link that disintegrates at increased temperature in the duct of 70 C, and the blade, with the help of a pre-compressed spring, automatically goes into the closed position. An intervention into the damper is required to replace the thermal fusible link and for test triggering. If desired, the damper can be additionally equipped with potential free end switches that enable switching of relays or indicator lights. For each position, closed or open, one single independent end switch is provided. 2

3 Installation Installation into vertical solid wall The fire damper must be installed into a solid vertical wall of minimum thickness W = 100 mm, into a circular opening, slot s = mm. The wall can be made from concrete or brick or aerated concrete bricks. The slot filling can be concrete or mortar. During installation, an install dimension at the side of the drive of K = 10 mm must be taken into account. Whenever the thickness of the wall exceeds 100 mm or the length of the standard damper L = 300 mm, it is required to install an appropriate extension during installation or order an extended damper L = 00 mm that enables direct installation of the duct up to wall thickness of 280 mm. The joint between the duct and the damper must be sealed with an adhesive tape for air conditioning. When installing into a vertical wall (v e ) the position of the actuator or drive can be in one or the other fire sector. The plate must be made of concrete. The slot filling can be concrete or mortar. The fire damper can also be directly poured in with the concrete. During installation, an install dimension at the side of the drive of K = 10 mm must be taken into account. When installing standard damper L = 300 mm, to connect a duct on the shorter side, it is required to install an appropriate extension or order an extended damper L = 00 mm that enables direct installation of the duct up to wall thickness of 280 mm. The joint between the duct and the damper must be sealed with an adhesive tape for air conditioning. It is prohibited to install fire dampers into explosion hazard rooms and/ or into ducts where an explosion hazardous medium is present. In such cases, special Ex, explosion safe fire dampers must be installed. 7
