Never set the mahine on a stand and rev. engine. This is very hard on slide rail units and most important, it is very dangerous as this may 'ause the luth or trak to blow due to over reving. 2 WARRANTY BULLETIN DATE: November 9, 1970 TO: All Polaris Dealers This year Polaris Industries has started a new system of proessing warranty laims. We will hek the serial number, model number and engine number against our Prodution Inventory Listing to insure the laim is, in fat, a valid warranty request. Date of purhase, date of failure and date of repair will also be heked to insure the dealer ~as submitted t~e laim within seven (7) days of date of repair. The owner's signature must also be on eah and every laim. If any of this information has been omitted, the laim will be refused. Also, the Pre-Delivery Chek List and Warranty Card (both items on 1971 models) must be on file with Polaris Industries and your Distributor before a warranty request will be honored. Polaris has a 90 day and 30 day (on TX models) Warranty Poliy. We will not aept laims on parts or repairs ompleted after the allowed warranty period. Please keep in mind that your Distributor will also be sreening laims for required information, submitted Warranty Cards and Pre-Delivery Chek Lists, et. In some ases, he will refuse a warranty request before it reahes Polaris; so, if you have any questions on the status of your laims, please ontat him first. If he annot supply you with an answer, he will ontat us. Should your Distributor ontat you to return parts for inspetion, we must insist that you do so within ten (1 O) days of reeipt of suh a request. We will be holding your warranty laim until the requested parts are reeived and inspeted. So you an see, by omplying with this ten (10) day request limitation, we an issue redit on your laims muh faster. ~ We will ontinue to use the Warranty Adjustment Request Form of last year. If a laim is rejeted or one item is rejeted, we will indiate this by plaing a rejetion ode (listed at bottom of form) in the light blue setion to the right of the laim. We will send a opy of the rejeted laim to your Distributor who will in turn notify you. Any laim to be resubmitted, will have to be plaed on a new warranty laim form; do not submit the old laim. The upper left-hand orner of the warranty laim must be left ompletely open for our use. Please refer to the attahed sample laim form. The stamp that appears on the upper left-hand orner is used by IBM when issuing redit memos. Eah warranty laim is stamped in the Warranty Department, oded and the ustomer number is affixed. Inluded on this stamp is the disount fator, parts requested by the dealer, parts allowed by the fatory, labor requested by the dealer and labor allowed by the fatory. We will use the Flat Rate Labor Book in determining all labor allowanes. A opy of the laim will not be sent to the Distributor if there is a differene in the labor requested and the labor allowed; a opy will be sent only if a laim has any parts rejeted. In summary, you the dealer, will be the determining fator in making our new warranty system funtion. If you supply us with all the neessary information, we will get your warrant redits to you sooner than ever before. Thank you for your ooperation. Sinerely, ~.JL Warranty Department

If for any reason the jetting is hanged for warmer running onditions be sure the engines are re-jetted for winter use. 2.) Main jets on the 1971 Mikuni arburetors should be heked for tightness in a new mahine. It is very easy to remove the banjo bolt and tighten the main jet. 3.) Chek to see that the timing advane am an move freely. It is possible that the starter pulley mounting bolts ould be over length and bind the governor weights, limiting the movements of the advane am. If the am annot advane this will ause a definite lak of mid range and top end power. Corret length of the bolt is 12MM (5/8") - a lok washer must be used. 4.) On early 1971 prodution models, all gas line hoses were plasti. Due to the angle of the gas tank on some mahines the gas line was hanged to the rubber type hose to prevent a gas leak between the tank and the rear of seat. 5.) Do not run slide rail mahines without adequate snow onditions. Running on grass an ause melted rails. 6.) Handle bar bolts should be heked for torque. Torque should be 6 8 ft. Ibs. 7.) When replaing the plasti trak slide on the driftskipper suspension springs, be sure the bushings are reinstalled. 8.) Servie Bulletin No. 47 onerns the return gas line kit. A loose ondition an ause extreme wear. 13.) All the bolts in all suspensions should be heked periodially. 14.) During pre delivery set-up be sure all ontrols are working properly. Advise your new ustomers as to the importane of the pre-start list on the mahine and in the Owners Manual, Page ) Trak tension shoul"'be heked frequently. For the orret proedure see pages 21 & 22 in the Owners Manual. 16.) This is the tim~ of the year when snowmobiles suffer most abuse by the average operator - not enough snow to over obstrutions of a_ny kind and anxious ustomers trying for their first speed run. They should lie autioned against this pratie, espeially if they expet warranty to over the expense of repair. 17.) Corret part numbers: When entering orders for parts be sure the part numbers are orret. We are experien ing a delay in shipments beause of transposing numbers inorretly on orders. 18.) The four (4) starting solenoid mounting bolts on eletri start models should be tightened periodially. Many hours of running an ause the bolts to loosen, and ause a malfuntion of the solenoid. 19.) 9 I N FOR MAT ION B U L LET INN O. 7 DATE: February 12, 1971 SUBJECT: Carburetion and Plug Fouling on 432 and 488 Engines. We have experiened plug fouling and bakfiring on some engines. Spark plug reading is one way to hek on proper arburetion, and of ourse, if your arburetor is not set properly, there will be a great loss of power and performane. Proper plug reading is brown eletrod and dark rim. If you do a lot of trail riding and your plugs foul and get blak when doing so, replae the No. 40 pilot jet, whih is in your arburetor now, with the No. 35 pilot jet, Part Number , then lower the jet needle by plaing the E Clip in 2nd noth from top of needle. Float arms should be level when holding the arburetor upside down. Also, the air set srew should be from 3/4 to 1 turn open, and again, slide valves must be synronized to rise and lower evenly. Maintain a.017 to.020 spark plug gap. We also reommend the highest grade 2 yle air ooled engine oil available.
