Rally Info Wing Ding 40 Info GWRRA Events Ride, Ride, Ride Let s Ride June is upon us and many chapters have put out a lot of miles to rallies, poker runs and great district activities. Shawn and I started out the month of May with a ride to Chapter-E s gathering. This was actually the scheduled visitation of Ch-X to visit Ch-E Tulsa. Kathy Oakes, chapter director had a great chapter gathering. It was great seeing all of the rides their chapter had scheduled for May. We had sad news on the passing of long time GWRRA Ch-E past chapter director Mike Ewing. Please be with his family during this time. May Motorcycle Awareness Month As all of us know, riding a motorcycle can be and will always be a challenge with all of the four wheelers out their sharing the road with us. GWRRA is a great organization that wants all people out there to watch out for all motorcyclists. I want to thank all of the chapters that took part in getting involved with their community in putting out the word of May Motorcycle Awareness Month. A lot of chapters took part in setting up booths at local businesses showing off their motorcycles and having city governments do proclamations making May motorcycle awareness month. We have to keep getting the word out there about motorcycle safety and GWRRA. On May 7 Ch- X members met with Stillwater Mayor Will Joyce to proclaim the Month of May as Motorcycle Safety Awareness month. 1 of 21

2 What s going on? As mentioned above Ch-E is having a lot of great rides. District ride coordinator Harry Sanders hosted the first district ride. There were only 3 district members but they had fun. We have many more rides coming up. Check out his web page on the district website. Ch-M Muskogee has some of their members off to visit the Vietnam Wall in Washington DC. They had 3 members take part in 40 to Phoenix. Chapter-M Director Robert Jackson and Ride Coordinator Ed Mason on May 5 went to Bixby and took part in the Oklahoma Highway Patrol Safety Course. They did a good job. Any GWRRA member can take part in this safety course. Chapter-B held their Anniversary on May 19. They had 21 district members in attendance. It was a great day to hold an anniversary. Lots of people won prizes and money. Belle Cow Lake in Chandler was a great a place to hold the anniversary. Good job to all on their anniversary party. Chapter-P hosted their annual campout at Strayhorn Campout May They pulled double duty by attending the district campout at Lake Tenkiller. Chapter-L had a chapter ride through Arkansas to Branson, MO May 4-6 with stops in Ozark, AR, visiting the Josef Wolf log cabin and court house and the Ozark Cultural Center. They took the Peale Ferry across Bull Shoals Lake and had a motorist Awareness Event with the Cement Elementary School on May 16 and spoke to the teachers and students on the need to Look Twice Save a Life. The children had a chance to sit on the bikes and trikes, rev the engines and ask questions. They also had their regular movie ride and dinner rides. Chapter-X on May 6 had a Motorist Awareness Event at the Stillwater West Wal-Mart where they set up the bikes and trikes and a table with lots of brochures on membership and on Motorist Awareness. The next night May 7 they met with the Stillwater City Commission where Mayor Will Joyce proclaimed May as Motorcycle Safety Awareness month. Eight members attended the Texas District Rally. Five Ch-X members took part in the five state poker run, which took place out of Guymon, Ok. Spring District Cookout May 26 was the Oklahoma District Cookout which was held at Lake Tenkiller. Because of the weather in April we had to postpone the cookout until May. This was a good choice as we had great riding weather for all who attended. How many days do we get to ride when there is little to no wind? The cookout was held at Tenkiller Ferry Lake Overlook Shelter. Since Chapter-P was holding their campout a few miles away we had a lot of members from them attend. Assistants Kenny and Sherry were the project leaders for the cookout and did a great job. We had 39 district members attend the cookout. They had lots of games which all took part in and said they were fun. Everyone brought enough food as the district provided the hamburgers and buns for all to have at least two burgers each. The 50/50 of $ was won by Marvin McClellan. Ron Sadler of Ch-X was the winner of $10.00 in a drawing for riding his motorcycle to the cookout. There were a few people who got wet with water balloons. Just ask Sherry Graham. The district will be putting on a fall cookout in September or October. Keep watch. 2 of 21

5 Oklahoma District Membership Enhancement Coordinator Carol Murphy Hello to GWRRA Members: Here it is June already and the year is half over. Or should I say we have 1/2 year left? Whatever the case, the weather has warmed up and now we can ride our bikes. With it being so hot, please be careful and safe on your rides. The heat does not discriminate. We need to stay hydrated and not get sunburned. On to other things.the MEC (District) fundraiser is going well. Folks are selling their tickets and I ve had one person come back for more tickets. It will be a lot of fun to see who wins the computer on Sept. 29 and of course find out who the winner is for selling the most tickets. Remember, this is a fundraiser so that we can purchase fun things for all chapters. For example, Chapter of the Year Pins, Couple of the Year pins, medallions and even providing lunch for the Couples of the Year from each Chapter! If you have money or tickets that need to be turned in, please contact me and I will make arrangements to get with you. Next, we have a new project.it is called Open The Door For New Members. One of the focus items for National GWRRA is maintaining and gaining new members. With our ARL now we are not only contacting new and prospective members, we are also contacting the expiring and expired memberships. We are trying to find out why folks are allowing memberships to drop or maybe not attending Chapters Gathering and Events. So, with this in mind, we have an Open The Door For New Members membership drive. The Chapter that signs up the most members (based on 10% of the assigned members on their ARL) will get their 2019 Charter Fees Paid by the District. These new members must show up on the ARL, so lets be sure they get signed up with National. The other thing is the individual that signs up new members will be placed in a drawing for four (4) new members $100; three (3) new members $75; two (2) new members $50; and one (1) new member $ There should be a flyer in this newsletter that you can review. If you have any questions, please contact John Irons at ironsline3414@gmail.com or call him at (405) Let s Make A Difference and make Oklahoma proud! Since it is June it won t be long until the District Rally in September (Sept. 27, 28 & 29) in Lawton. If you have not made your reservations or registrations, you need to be thinking about doing that. And don t forget, District will be giving away a Cruise this year. How exciting? There is a registration flyer in this newsletter for your use. Happy Father s Day to all the Dads! Until next time! Carol Murphy, District MEC carol@kixr.com (580) of 21

9 Oklahoma District Couple of the Year Coordinators, and Region H Couple of the Year John & Sarah Hoogendoorn Already June is upon us and this year just keeps marching on. As they say... Time flies when you are having FUN!...this is a true statement. We have certainly been having lots of it. The traveling we are doing is paying off in FUN for us, and the people we are meeting are really FUN-loving, also. This past month (May) has taken us to South Carolina and Texas rallies. Each one has been unique in its own way, and we are bringing back ideas to hopefully incorporate into our own gatherings and rally. We have met some special people that are making friendship up to be exactly what it is - friends you can have FUN with and depend on when the need is there. As we are approaching the International Couple of the Year selection, we are learning so much and finding out the difficulties we may be having are felt in other districts and areas. We feel one of the big hurdles we have to overcome when we discuss the Couple of the Year Program with chapters and individuals, is that COY is mistakenly mislabeled as something EXTRA that people must do to be a Couple of the Year. WRONG!!!! Just be yourself and know you have been selected as an honor for your contributions you have given to your chapters. After serving as your chapter s Couple of the Year, there is NO obligation on your part that you must go into the District selection. Of course, we would hope you might try it if you feel so moved. Speaking from our experiences we have had thus far in the the COY program, we feel we have learned so much about ourselves and there are so many people willing to help you through it. If ever you are approached about the idea of being your chapter s Couple of the Year, give it a lot of thought and know there are so many rewards to be received by simply you stepping outside your comfort zone and saying YES to the honor you are being given from your chapter. You will not regret it!!!! Just ask other Couples of the Year about their experiences. (I will get off my soap box for now. Couples of the Year don t forget about the COY Luncheon on June 24th, Sunday, in Ponca City at the Pizza Hut. It s your DAY!!!!! Come enjoy the FUN and fellowship with the other current COY s. Please bring your GW vests as we will be taking pictures. We hope to see all of you there. Please RSVP!!! Until the next time, keep in mind... Life is a Journey, Enjoy the Ride!!! 10 Oklahoma District Trainer Training is Coming Eventually. Yes, we are sull working on geyng a training day scheduled for the Oklahoma District. We had a training day scheduled earlier this year but had to change locauons in order to accommodate the riding course that was scheduled as part of the training. Unfortunately, the new locauon did not have the faciliues needed for our GWRRA University training. Then, we worked diligently to get a training day scheduled for June but were never able to make contact with the venue we were hoping to use. We are now looking at a new locauon and date, possibly in July, for a GWRRA University training day. There is a lot of confusion over the restructuring of GWRRA University. Much like an academic university, GWRRA University is where all of the classroom trainings are housed. An academic university contains many colleges which co-exist, such as the colleges of architecture, arts & sciences, agriculture, fine arts, etc. In the same way, programs such as Rider EducaUon sull co-exist with the GWRRA University. GWRRA University contains many new training modules. In addiuon to the new material, the modules are presented in a very different format from the old seminars. No more death by PowerPoint! No more having an instructor stand in the front of the room and read from the slides and/or their notes for an hour. These new training modules are interacuve and a lot of fun! I hope you will join us when we finally get our training day scheduled and check out how much berer these new modules are. Johnie Fredman, District University Coordinator 10 of 21
