3 A Word from your Chapter Directors Here we are going into Fall already, but first of all we would like to Thank everyone for attending the Chapter Z Fall Festival. The weather was a little sketchy with all the rain the day before but we had a great turn out none the less We hope everyone had a good time. By the time we went home the weather was perfect. Lol Now we are getting into the busy season for everyone. Not just with the Chapter but with our families as well. District OPS, New Directors and their Staff with fresh new ideas, the Holidays, Thanksgiving, Christmas parties - Chapter and Family, this is a busy time for all. Some upcoming events you won t want to miss are the Chapter Z Christmas party and the Chapter Z Toysfor-Tots Drive. We will keep you posted on these 2 events but we can guarantee a Good Time will be had at both. Most of the rides will be going to Impromptu as weather permits. Some will put their Wings to sleep for the winter and some will not. Many will survive the Fall and Winter by buying SAFETY Chrome and gadgets for the Wings and putting them on. Others will just buy things and put them on the shelf for a later date. A few will take the time to do their yearly maintenance to be ready for the next season. Some might even go above and beyond and do a little performance maintenance with suspensions and the like. 4 Roamin with the Ruegges October has been a very busy month with some beautiful weather for some great rides!!! We held the second annual Chapter Z Fall Festival on Saturday October 11th. We had a great time with KZ's trikes, lots of great baskets and attendance prizes!! Our 50/50 and Poker hand winners were Mark and Sharon Meyer, Dave Ruegge, Mike and Barb Bayuk and Dave Dawson. Thanks to all those who helped with the event!! On October 18 we had 13 bikes and 17 members on our fall color ride to Taste of Home in Steelville, MO. We had a great ride and saw some beautiful fall colors. On October 21st we had 21 members at the Pasta House in Afton for our monthly dinner ride. Sara Gibson won the 50/50 after she drew her own name!!! On October 25th we had 9 bikes and 14 members on a ride to T's Redneck Steakhouse in Lebanon, MO with a stop in Bixby for some ice cream on the way home. We ended the month with a ride to Elephant Rocks State Park. The ride had a rough start with a minor accident, but thankfully no injuries to either rider. It's just another good reason to take the safety seminars that are provided by GWRRA. We ended up meeting Chapter I at Elephant Rocks and they led us on the second part of the ride. 5 THE EDUCATIONAL JOURNEY I hope this article finds everyone snow free and in good health. Before I start my advice for the monthly article, I must say I am trying to lose weight STILL (LOL), but I am so looking forward to a big Thanksgiving dinner with all the trimmings. With that said, I want to speak about color. I know most of us purchased our motorcycles in a color that appealed to us. When Sara and I purchased our Goldwing we also considered what color would show up the best to other drivers on the road. As your rider Educator I feel that I need to point this out, color should be appealing, but should also be safe. Take into consideration the gear we wear. Matching helmets and motorcycles are really neat, but suppose you own a flat black bike. Wouldn t it make more sense to go with light colored helmets so someone would be able to see you better? How about your jackets; chartreuse with reflective trim might just save your life and if you are carrying a co rider, their life as well. We all want to ride and be safe and to get where we are going and then to return home in the same condition we left. If you pull a trailer, here is something one fellow rider shared with me. He pulls a trailer a different color than his motorcycle; why I ask? He told me people have a tendency to focus on the riders and the motorcycle and may run into the trailer. The different color helps to make you more noticeable. This is a personal opinion, but a good one I think. I do not expect anyone to purchase a different motorcycle, nor do I expect anyone to repaint their motorcycle. I just want to point out some things to think about. Isn t that what safety is, THINKING! Remember you make the final decision. 6 Our Motto... Share the Road! Our Mission... To Facilitate A Reduction In Motorcycle Crashes With Other Motor Vehicles. We have had a lot of beautiful days lately for riding, and many have enjoyed some great planned rides. As you are out riding be careful of the leaves. On the trees they are beautiful but under your wheels on a motorcycle they are a slippery hazard. The deer now are very active also and you see them along and on the roadways all the time. Many riders (not Vern, KZ or Tom B) will soon be preparing to put their bikes up for the winter. There are several things you need to do to get your bike ready for next spring. Cover your Wing, even in the garage. The cover will keep the moisture out when temperatures change --no moisture no rust. For fuel injected bikes add fuel stabilizer to a full tank of gas. Let it run idle a few minutes to work it into the injectors. For carburetor bikes follow the same directions. Once done be sure to turn the petcock to the off position. Check tire pressure. Make sure tires are at the correct PSI for storage and place bike on the center stand to take the weight off the tires. Place the battery on a battery tender. During this down time you can add your safety chrome!! Attend safety classes that are offered during the winter to keep your skills sharp. 7 More BS From Bruce s Sidecar... This is the most difficult newsletter article I have written since I have been in GWRRA! It is Bittersweet because it is the last article I will write as your Missouri District Director. The past three years have been one heck of a ride! I feel not only proud, but privileged to have had the opportunity to work with the Team that brought the Missouri District Rally back to the forefront of GWRRA Rallies - it is now the largest and most talked about Rally in the Midwest! A special Thank You to a great District Team consisting of some very dedicated individuals: Jan Bacon Mike and Barb Bayuk Allen and Debby Biddlingmeier Tom Braun Jerry Blatt and Scooter Beatty Leaster and Sara Gibson John and Nancy Hofmann Jerry Rothermich and Sally Enderle Glenn and Carol White During the past three years I have also had the opportunity to work with some amazing Chapter Directors. It s the CD s who give countless hours to insure that you have a positive GWRRA experience. Thank you Chapter Directors for your passion for GWRRA and for helping make the last three years easy for me. Earlier I said this was bittersweet As I step away from my role as the Missouri District Director a new challenge begins for me as the Region E Director. If Missouri is any indication of the support members give Directors, being a Region Director is going to be a Great Ride! On December 1 st Les and Sara Gibson will assume the role of Missouri District Directors, please give them, and their new District Team, the same support you gave this Missour-AH Director.
