4 Engine The Cat C6.4 gives the 323D exceptional power and fuel efficiency unatched in the industry for consistently high perforance in all applications. Perforance. The Cat C6.4 engine with ACERT Technology offers ore engine power, and runs at lower speeds for better fuel efficiency and reduced wear. Power Manageent. The high power ode is recoended for extreely productive areas and for hard digging applications. Autoatic Engine Speed Control. The two-stage, one-touch control axiizes fuel efficiency and reduces sound levels. ADEM A4 Engine Controller. The ADEM A4 electronic control odule anages fuel delivery to get the best perforance per liter of fuel used. Cooling Syste. To reduce fan noise, the cooling fan is driven fro a viscous clutch which is electrically controlled by the achine ECM. It calculates optiu fan speed based on the target engine speed, coolant teperature, hydraulic oil teperature and actual fan speed. The Cat C6.4 delivers a copletely new layout that separates the cooling syste fro the engine copartent. Air Cleaner. The radial seal air filter features a double-layered filter core for ore efficient filtration and is located in a copartent behind the cab. ACERT engines eet EU Stage IIIA eissions regulation. Fewer Leaks and Spills. Engine oil and en capsulated hydraulic oil filters are positioned vertically and are easy to reach to iniize spillage. Service intervals are extended to reduce the ties fluids are changed and handled. Hydraulic oil service interval can be extended to 4000 hours with the S O S progra. In addition to the S O S progra fine filtration syste attachent extends the service interval to 5000 hours. Cat Extended Life Coolant extends service to h, less need for fluid disposal. The hydraulic syste is copatible with Cat HEES hydraulic bio-oil for ecologically sensitive applications. 4

5 Hydraulics Cat hydraulics deliver power and precise control to keep aterial oving. Coponent Layout. The 323D hydraulic syste and coponent locations have been designed to provide a high level of syste efficiency. The ain pups, control valves and hydraulic tank are located close together to allow for shorter tubes and lines between coponents, which reduce friction loss, and pressure drops in the lines. The layout further provides greater operator cofort by placing the radiator on the cab side of the upper structure. This allows incoing air to enter the engine copartent fro the operator side and hot air and correspond ing engine sound to exit on the opposite side away fro the operator. This reduces engine copartent heat and sound being transitted to the operator. Heavy Lift Mode. Maxiizing lifting per - forance and boosting the lifting capability. Heavy loads can be easily oved in the full working range of the achine aintaining excellent stability. Hydraulic Cross Sensing Syste. The hydraulic cross sensing syste utilizes each of two hydraulic pups to 100%, under all operating conditions. This iproves productivity with faster ipleent speeds and quicker, stronger pivot turns. Pilot Syste. The pilot pup is independent fro the ain pups and controls the front linkage, swing and travel operations. Boo and Stick Regeneration Circuit. Boo and stick regeneration circuit saves energy during boo-down and stick-in operation which increases efficiency, reduces cycle ties and pressure loss for higher productivity, lower operating costs and increased fuel efficiency. Electronic Control Syste. Ten hydraulic pup flow and pressure settings can be preset, eliinat ing the need to adjust the hydraulics each tie a tool is changed. Reduces stress and vibrations transitted to the achine and provides a ore cofortable environent. Rock Scraping. Scraping rock and finishing work is easy and fast. SartBoo siplifies the task and allows the operator to concentrate on stick and bucket, while boo freely goes up and down without using pup flow. Haer Work. The front parts auto - atically follow the haer while penetrating the rock. Blank shots or excessive force on the haer are avoided resulting in longer life for the haer and the achine. 6 Operator Station Designed for siple, easy operation and cofort, the 323D allows the operator to focus on production. Operator Station. The workstation is spacious, quiet and cofortable, assuring high productivity during a long workday. The air conditioner and attachent switches are conveniently located on the right-hand wall, and the key switch and throttle dial are on the right-hand console. The onitor is easy to see and axiizes visibility. Also, the ROPS Cab air filter accessible at ground level. Seat. An optional air suspension seat is available in the 323D. The standard and optional seats provide a variety of adjustents to suit the operator s size and weight including fore/aft, height and weight. Wide adjustable arrests and a retractable seat belt are also included. Cliate Control. Positive filtered ventilation with a pressurized cab is standard. Fresh air or re-circulated air can be selected with a switch on the right console. Hydraulic Activation Control Lever. For added safety, this lever ust be in the operate position to activate the achine control functions. Controls. The 323D uses pilot operated control levers, positioned so the operator can operate with ars on the arrests. The vertical stroke is longer than the horizontal, reducing operator fatigue. The control lever grips are shaped to fit into the operator s hands. The horn switch and one-touch low idle switch are positioned on the left and right grip. Ipleent Controls. Easy to handle joy - sticks with integrated push buttons and sliding switches control all ipleent and swing functions. The sliding switches provide odulated control for hydroechanical tools and are designed to increase operator cofort and reduce operator fatigue. Skylight. A large polycarbonate skylight provides very good upward visibility, especially useful in above ground applications. Tie delay lights. The 323D L has standard cab working lights with tie delay functionality. These lights have auto shut-off capability, prograable up to 90 seconds and supports safe egress out the achine and easy departure fro job site. Windows. To axiize visibility, all glass is affixed directly to the cab eliinating the use of window fraes (exception of the rear window). 70/30 split front windshield stores the upper portion above the operator. One-touch action release syste to lift window. Wipers. Pillar-ounted wipers increase the operator s viewing area and offer continuous and interittent odes. Cab Exterior (ROPS). The exterior design uses thick steel tubing along the botto perieter of the cab, iproving the resistance of fatigue and vibration. This design allows the FOGS to be bolted directly to the cab, at the factory or as an attachent later, enabling the achine to eet specifications and job site requireents. A ROPS cab (Roll Over Protective Structure) is standard on CE-copliant units and provides 10% ore glass area than the previous non-rops cab. 6

7 Versatility Electronic Control Systes Manages the engine and hydraulics for axiu perforance and safety. Consoles. Redesigned consoles feature a siple, functional design to reduce operator fatigue, ease of switch operation and excellent visibility. Both consoles have attached arrests with height adjustents. Cab Mounts. The cab shell is attached to the frae with viscous rubber cab ounts, which dapen vibrations and sound levels while enhancing operator cofort. Standard Cab Equipent. To enhance operator cofort and productivity, the cab includes a lighter, drink holder, coat hook, service eter, literature holder, agazine rack and storage copartent. Monitor Display Screen. The onitor is a full color 400x234 pixels Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) graphic display. The Master Caution Lap blinks O and OFF when one of the critical conditions below occurs: Engine oil pressure low Coolant teperature high Hydraulic oil teperature high Under noral conditions or the default condition, the onitor display screen is divided into four areas; clock and throttle dial, gauge, event display and ulti-inforation display. Clock and Throttle Dial Area. The clock and the throttle dial position are in this area and the gasstation icon with green color is also displayed. Gauge Area. Three analog gauges, fuel level, hydraulic oil teperature and coolant teperature, are displayed in this area. Event Display Area. Machine inforation is displayed in this area with the icon and language. Multi-inforation Display Area. This area is reserved for displaying inforation that is convenient for the operator. The CAT logo ark is displayed when inforation to display does not exist. Keypad. The keypad allows operator to select achine operation conditions and to set view preferences. All boos and sticks undergo a stress relieving process for greater durability. Boo Construction. The boos have large cross-sections and internal baffle plates to provide long life durability. Reach Boo. The reach boo (5680 ) is designed to balance reach, digging force bucket capacity, offering a wide range of applications as digging, loading, trenching and working with hydraulic tools.
