WE ARE
We want to stop people dying from breathing polluted air. And we want to change the way we travel.
London Air Quality: 9,500 premature deaths in London 3.7bn cost to London Health services
In the UK EVs - electric cars, plug-in hybrids - count for about 1.2% of new car sales But sales of these cars are growing exponentially. Year on year - sales are up by almost 4.00%. This is great news if we want clean air But it s not good because the number of charge points - the fixed posts in the ground for people to charge these cars, is not rising in proportion to the number of vehicles being sold
New car registrations only, excludes electric vans and quadricycles e.g. G-Wiz, Renault Twizy * Source: SMMT ** Source: ZapMap
Until recently, the ratio of charge points to vehicles was more than adequate - some of them were even left unused Because early EV adopters had places to charge at home Early adopters were affluent people whose EV was their second car, and drove their EV s to the shops or to pick up the kids - rarely on long journeys When they needed to charge, they plugged their EV into a wallbox in their driveway

But we are now on the brink of mass market adoption And in order to make that transition - tomorrow s buyers and drivers of EV s will not just be doing short round trips to and from their home in their second car
They will be people who live in cities who might want to commute by car and take longer journeys by car They will be people who live in apartments and housing developments like this one in Earls Court, with no dedicated parking spaces to their property
Or they will be people who live in traditional houses with on-street parking, who can't get planning permission to create a driveway...
In fact - the occupiers of the majority of London housing stock will struggle to charge their own electric car
And it s not just homeowners who will face difficulties, Electric taxis and commercial fleets won t be able to operate either Electric vans are on the market for companies to buy today, but the public charging infrastructure is too slow and unreliable to allow fleets to operate as they otherwise would have done with petrol or diesel
ZAPINAMO is involved in several projects to explore how commercial vehicles can overcome these issues - like the LoCITY project taking place in London But as we stand today, businesses are prevented from making green choices by the lack of reliable charge points in the places where they are needed
There's another problem. If any one of these homeowners or businesses was to buy an EV today and wanted get a chargepoint installed - they almost certainly couldn t People who want to make a positive change to the environment and their neighbourhood, people who want to live in a clean city and breathe clean air are being prevented from doing so by this bureaucracy

There s another problem, when EV drivers come home from work at the end of the day - and plug in their car - and put the kettle on, we don t notice it But when EV s reach as little as 6% of the overall car parc in this country - we are on 1.2% now and growing quickly - studies have shown that when those cars all want to plug in at the end of the day...our streets will start to look like this
WILL THIS BE LIFE IN THE CITY ?
So there has to be a change Our simple premise is that EV s don t have to charge from a fixed point at all We have all been conditioned from decades of driving gasoline vehicles that we have to travel to the source of the fuel and take that fuel from a fixed point in the ground even if that means going out of our way, and diverting off our route by several miles, we ve all done it in a petrol or diesel vehicle But if your EV only has an 80 mile range - like a BMW i3 - that s a huge inefficiency
Our simple premise is that EV s don t have to charge from a fixed point at all
As a case in point, the global EV market leader - Nissan - last month announced their great hope for the EV market They are calling it the fuel station of the future it s a petrol station that sells electricity! In an era of crowded mega-cities, energy insecurity and expensive real estate, they are looking at this problem all wrong

THEY ARE NOT LOOKING AT IT LIKE THIS
At its simplest - it s an electric van - packed with energy - connected to you - and your vehicle It is a delivery service, bringing energy to you Taking the cleanest available energy from the grid off-peak and dispenses it to vehicles, where & when it is needed and delivered at the speed the EV can take It does this by communicating - either with an app on your phone, or directly with your car s user interface - so you will never run out of charge

If you park your car on the street near your home overnight - you don t need to find somewhere to plug it in - you can simply ask us to come and charge it In time, Zapinamo will sync with delivery + concierge services so that when you charge, you will also be able to pick up your amazon or other delivery We take away the stress of charging - Range anxiety as it s known - which is a very real problem
We will go further still - Zapinamo will be able to facilitate localised grid balancing - drawing from the grid at slow speeds off peak and dispensing energy at high speed Like at Heathrow airport, with whom we have an MOU to start testing these technologies as part of their 2020 sustainability plan. The next image is Heathrow s short stay car park, full of usually empty spaces for EV s to park and charge
Slow 7kW chargers in short stay car parks -
Why are these spaces empty? This is the short stay car park, and these chargers are 7kW slow chargers - they take 14 hours to charge a Tesla Model S The ZapSpot, another core product which utilises the same battery modules as in our Zupa mobile van, can retrofit these slow chargers to become rapid units, without drawing any energy from the grid. If, like Heathrow, you are running at full capacity, relying on diesel generators for 18 hours a day - this is revolutionary!
- can become rapid 50kW chargers
So in time, within 5 years, we will remove the barriers to owning and driving EVs in this country And we will all enjoy the benefits - cleaner air - cleaner cities and better health
HOW ZAPINAMO WILL IMPACT ON EMISSIONS
Zapinamo s products are in prototype stage, and we are developing them in the UK. Over the next 18 months we will be undertaking a trial & testing phase, refining the user experience and back-end systems before delivering the first production units to these customers from 2018 To fulfil this strategy we are seeking a total of GBP12.5m over the next 18 months, by 2020 we forecast that ZAPINAMO will be turning over 250m and at a 3 x multiple earnings would be valued at 192m

Our start of sales lead time is designed to synchronise with the programme of ever-tightening vehicle regulation in the UK and Europe, such as the introduction of London s Ultra-Low Emission Zone in 2020 and the introduction of zero-emission capable taxis in London from January 2018 We know the regulation is coming and will demand that every new taxi in London must be capable of zero emissions
Fast growth strategy 2nd/3rd phase Market sectors Global development IPO/Trade Sale
Last month, The European Commission awarded ZAPINAMO a Seal of Excellence for exceeding their criteria in the EUR8bn Horizon2020 programme. Our proposition was among the highest scoring of almost 3,000 applications from across the European Union
