Expected in-service date for the new transformer is November /06/2013 Rebuild a section of the Williams Street to Coit 115kV and the McMeekin to Coit 115kV lines SPDC. Rebuild is approximately 0.73 miles. 05/03/2012 HAMLIN ISLE OF PALMS 115kV FACT SHEET HISTORY In 1988, SCE&G received a permit to construct a new transmission line from Mount Pleasant to Isle of Palms. At that time, power was being brought to IOP and Sullivan s Island by two 23kV lines on standard wooden poles from Mount Pleasant along the causeway to Sullivan s Island. In order to meet the growing electric demand and provide a reliable electric service to the Isle of Palms and Sullivan s Island, work began on a 115kV line that would be carried on 14 concrete pilings in the marsh south of what is now the Isle of Palms connector. This work was completed in GROWTH Much growth has been seen in this coastal South Carolina area since then. According to 2010 South Carolina Census data, Mount Pleasant has seen a 42.5 percent growth in its population since With a population at 67,843, Mount Pleasant is ranked the fourth largest city in South Carolina. PLANNING In order to better serve its growing number of customers and provide greater service reliability, SCE&G proposed a new 115kV electrical transmission line in 2007 called the Hamlin 115kV Tie Line after a series of public workshops as part of its siting process. Property owners were notified and preliminary surveying began. The original route was on the Mount Pleasant side only with the majority of the new line being overhead transmission with one exception for a portion to be underground because of an airstrip. From 2007 to 2009 at the request of the Town of Mt. Pleasant, SCE&G studied placing a larger section of the line underground on the Mount Pleasant side, and then in 2009, SCE&G began to look at additional options. THE PROPOSAL With rapid advances in the technology used to construct and maintain underground transmission lines, SCE&G

6 - 6 - Date of Posting Subject of Posting evaluated the plans for the Hamlin 115kV Tie Line and determined the best plan for the overall electrical system in the Mount Pleasant and surrounding areas would be to construct a new 5-mile underground transmission line between the Isle of Palms substation on 13 th Avenue and a future substation site off of Rifle Range Road. The much smaller 0.7-mile remaining section would be placed overhead back to the Hamlin substation on Porchers Bluff Road in Mount Pleasant. WHY DO WE NEED IT? This new line, to be called the Hamlin-Isle of Palms 115kV line, allows SCE&G to provide greater reliability and meet the growing electrical needs of northern Mt. Pleasant and Isle of Palms/Sullivan s Island, by providing a back-up source of power. In the case of an outage to the transmission system caused by a major storm, power to the Isle of Palms and portions of Sullivan s Island as well as North Mt. Pleasant could be restored in minutes, instead of hours or days. CONSTRUCTION SCHEDULE In the fall of 2011, SCE&G notified all property owners along the selected route and began line surveying and soil boring activities for the new Hamlin-Isle of Palms 115kV line. With final approval from regulating agencies, the Isle of Palms City Council and the Mount Pleasant Town Council, work is scheduled to begin in the fall of With an estimated one-year construction schedule, work is scheduled for completion in the fall of /26/2012 SCE&G and Santee Cooper are building two 1,117 megawatt nuclear units at the site of V. C. Summer Nuclear Station. As a result of the delayed issuance of the Combined Operating License, the new units are now expected to be completed in 2017 and The transmission projects associated with these generating units will be completed in sufficient time to support operation of the units. 04/16/2012 Fairfield Pump Storage Units #3 and #4 are offline for transformer repairs and modifications. 03/23/2012 Hardeeville combustion turbine generator step-up transformer is out of service. 02/27/2012 VC Summer Unit #2 and #3 Transmission Line Update - February SCE&G s Power Delivery group resolved the routes for the four 230 kv transmission lines associated with Units 2 & 3, i.e., the VCS1 Killian Line (Unit 2), the VCS2 Lake Murray Line No. 2 (Unit 2), and the VCS2 St. George No. 1 and No. 2 Lines (Unit 3).
