21 Methods of application and warning. The expansion fixing of plastic and metal plugs on walls under construction is now a widespread practice. In general, the fixture takes place with the rotation of a threaded element. This engages with a plastic body or metal bolt to cause the widening of the plug and the engagement of it on the walls of the hole by means of the wedge effect. It may be useful at this point to briefly list the factors that have an influence on the effectiveness and durability of the fixture. Distance from the edges: equivalent to at least 3 times the depth of the hole. Screw diameter: follow the instructions set out in the tables. Plug diameter: this is the rated outer diameter, equivalent to the diameter of the hole, produced correctly with a sharpened point to avoid uncontrollable widening. Hole diameter: equivalent to the rated diameter of the plug without increases. Circular hole. Consistency (hardness) of the plug/consistency of the wall: see the table on page 7. Cleaning the hole after drilling: using bellows. Friction between plug and hole. Hole length: should be % longer than the plug. Plug rotation during fixing: there should be none, otherwise the expansion will not take place. Screw tightening torque: see the indications on page 9. Assessment of the work load: unforeseeable situations should also be analysed. 22 Operating performance of metal anchorage systems. This is in direct proportion to the threading diameters that guarantee the fixing. The first graph sets out the mean extraction values (in red) on R concrete with class.8 screws and the recommended work loads (in blue) in accordance with the various threading diameters. The second graph shows the ideal tightening torque when a dynamometric key is used. All the metal plugs are zincplated and passivated with a depth from to 7 microns. 23 CX percussion plugs with plastic and metal nail. An increasingly widespread variation on expansion by rotation and forward movement of a thread is expansion by means of the percussion movement of a nail screw. The expansion takes place by percussion and the forward movement of the screw with a saw-toothed profile. The thread is used only for any possible dismantling. A second variation replaces the nail screw with a high resistance plastic screw. For the ø 6x0 mm and ø 6x60 mm measurements, the extraction data for the two percussion versions, in accordance with the SapiSelco testing method, confirm that in identical environmental conditions the CX plug with zincplated nail and the CX plug with nylon nail have identical extraction resistance: 60 Kg. The advantages linked to lightness and resistance to oxidisation are very clear. It may seem exaggerated and provocative, but we would suggest using nails of this kind as replacements for metal nails on softwood. 93 Expansion Fixing Systems
