3 General Purpse Limit Switches WERNER'S 441 series Heavy Duty Limit Switches have a sturdy cnstructin cmparable t any limit switch. It uses a zinc die-cast bdy, a glass-weave reinfrced plastic head, and a cver. The terminal cver als basts excellent dust-prf and drip-prf capabilities. As cntact detectin is pssible, the level f cnducting fluids can als be cntrlled. The main unit and the cver are sealed with rubber packing, crd runner is dubly sealed by the crd vent. The actuatr in all the mdels is sealed by a rubber cap and an O ring adding t the ingress prtectin. 19 Safety Precautins Precautins fr Safe Use When a rd r wired-type actuatr is used, d nt tuch the tp end f the actuatr. Ding s may result in injury. A shrt-circuit may cause damage t the Switch, s insert a circuit breaker fuse, f 1.5 t 2 times the rated current, in series with the Switch. In rder t meet EN apprval ratings, use a -A fuse that crrespnds t IEC60269, either a gi r gg fr general-purpse types and spatter-preventin mdels nly. Precautins fr Crrect Use When wiring terminal screws, use M4 rund crimp terminals and tighten screws t the recmmended trque. Wiring with bare wires, r incrrect crimp terminals, r nt tightening screws t the recmmended trque can lead t shrt-circuits, leakage current, and fire. When perfrming internal wiring there is a chance f shrt-circuit, leakage current, r fire, s be sure t prtect the inside f the Switch frm splashes f il r water, crrsive gases, and cutting pwder. Using an inapprpriate cnnectr r assembling Switches incrrectly (assembly, tightening trque) can result in malfunctin, leakage current, r fire, s be sure t read the instructin manual thrughly befrehand. Even when the cnnectr is assembled and set crrectly, the end f the cable and the inside f the Switch may cme in cntact. This can lead t malfunctin, leakage current, r fire, s be sure t prtect the end f the cable frm splashes f il r water and crrsive gases. Operating Envirnment Seal material may deterirate if a Switch is used utdr r where subject t special cutting ils, slvents, r chemicals. Always appraise perfrmance under actual applicatin cnditins and set suitable maintenance and replacement perids. Install Switches where they will nt be directly subject t cutting chips, dust, r dirt. The Actuatr and Switch must als be prtected frm the accumulatin f cutting chips r sludge. Nt Suitable Suitable Using Switches fr Micr Lads Cntact faults may ccur if a Switch fr a general-lad is used t switch a micr lad circuit. Use switches in the ranges shwn in the diagram belw. Hwever, even when using micr lad mdels within the perating range shwn here, if inrush current ccurs when the cntact is pened r clsed, it may increase cntact wear and s decrease durability. Therefre, insert a cntact prtectin circuit where necessary. The minimum applicable lad is the N-level reference value. This value indicates the malfunctin reference level fr the reliability level f 60% (λ60). The equatin, λ60 = /peratins indicates that the estimated malfunctin rate is less than 1/2,000,000 peratins with a reliability level f 60%. If silicn il, silicn filling agents, silicn cables, r ther silicn prducts are present near the Switch, suppress arcing with cntact prtective circuits (surge killers) r remve the surce f silicn gas. 16

If the psitin f the builtin switch mves, it can cause reduced perfrmance, and if the insulatin sheet mves (separatr), the insulatin may becme ineffective. Tightening Trque If screws are t lse they can lead t an early malfunctin f the Switch, s ensure that all screws are tightened using the crrect trque. 21 Item Applicable mdels and Actuatrs Details Changing the Installatin Psitin f the Actuatr By lsening the Allen-head blt n the actuatr lever, the psitin f the actuatr can be set anywhere within the 60. With Indicatr-equipped Switches, the actuatr lever cmes in cntact with the tp f the indicatr cver, s use cautin when rtating and setting the lever. When the lever nly mves frwards and backwards, it will nt cntact the lamp cver (except fr lng-life mdels). Changing the Orientatin f the Head By remving the screws in the fur crners f the Head, the Head can be set in any f the fur directins.
