1 HOW TO HOST A FOOD DRIVE Guidelines & Tls Abut Beverly Btstraps Beverly Btstraps prvides critical resurces t families and individuals s they may achieve self-sufficiency. We ffer emergency and lng-term assistance including: access t fd, husing stability, adult and yuth educatin, cunseling and advcacy. We are cmmunity funded and supprted. Fd Assistance Statistics fr FY2013 (July 2012 June 2013) Fd Pantry 2,778 individuals (1,183 husehlds) were served 312 new clients came t the Fd Pantry 7,883 Fd Pantry visits 23,649 bags f fd given ut 315,320 lbs f fd distributed Cmmunity Gardens (June 2013 September 2013) 49 gardeners (42 plts)s 275 punds f fd dnated t the Fd Pantry Mbile Market (June Octber 2013) 770 individuals (428 husehlds) participated in the Mbile Market Over 37,000 punds f fresh prduce and vegetables were distributed Summer Park Lunches (June August 2013) 6,597 lunches were distributed t seven parks fr eight weeks during the summer f 2013 Hw yur Fd Drive Helps Beverly Btstraps Fd Assistance Prgrams prvide Beverly and Manchester-by-the Sea residents with access t fd thrugh a variety f prgrams. The fd cllected thrugh yur fd drive will help prvide fd t thse in need thrugh ur Fd Pantry. Thrugh the Fd Pantry, Beverly and Manchester-by-the Sea residents receive fresh fruits and vegetables, meat, eggs and cheese alng with nutritius nn-perishable items that are partially supplied by cmmunity fd drives like yurs. The Fd Pantry is pen 6 days a week. Visitrs may cme nce every 14 days and need t bring a piece f mail pstmarked within the last 30 days every time they visit the pantry.

2 Getting Started Fd drives are easy t rganize and are a great way t pull a cmpany, cngregatin, schl grups, Girl Scuts, By Scuts r any grup tgether t help make a difference in ur cmmunity. As a fd drive rganizer, there are a few things yu shuld think abut as yu get started with yur fd drive. 1) Get apprval frm yur cmpany, schl r grup leader t hld yur fd drive. 2) Chse a date fr yur fd drive. 3) Remember t cntact Beverly Btstraps t let us knw abut yur fd drive. 4) Chse a high traffic area t place yur fd cllectin bins. Beverly Btstraps des have a limited number f cllectin bins that may be available fr yur drive. If they are nt available, signs t place n yur cllectin bins are included in this kit. 5) Chse a theme fr yur fd drive. We have included a list f suggested themes in this kit. 6) Advertise yur event t benefit Beverly Btstraps via , flyers, annuncements, scial media and mems whatever wrks fr yur grup. We ve included a flyer and suggested language which yu can use t help prmte yur fd drive. 7) Prvide specifics n what types f dnatins are accepted. We ve included a cmplete list f the tp ten items in this kit. 8) Set a deadline fr cllectins and remind peple when it s appraching. This will help mtivate peple t submit their dnatins. 9) Plan a drp-ff time fr the fd yu have cllected. Get help frm a clleague r friend t pack yur car(s) with yur dnatins and transprt them t Beverly Btstraps. Bring yur dnatins t ur Cabt Street Office: 371 Cabt Street, Beverly, MA Dnatins are accepted Mnday- Friday 8:30AM 4:00PM. There are many nights that we are pen until 8:00PM, hwever we encurage yu t call first t ensure that the ffice will be pen. We d ask that yu try t avid cming during fd distributin hurs which are: Mn-Wed-Thurs-Fri 11:00AM - 12:30PM, Tues-Wed 5:00PM - 6:00PM and the 1st/3rd Saturdays f the mnth 10:00AM - 11:00AM. The tp ten mst needed items list is included in this kit. Are there restrictins n the types f items Beverly Btstraps can accept? Yes. Please n expired fd r glass cntainers. N alchlic beverages, mixes r sda. We als ask that yu think abut the nutritinal value and try t dnate items that are healthy. Can I cllect anything ther than fd items? Yes! We accept tiletries such as shamp, dedrant, sap, tthbrushes and tthpaste, laundry detergent, diapers, baby wipes and baby fd. What if I receive a financial dnatin during the drive? Great! Try t cllect the name and mailing address f thse dnrs s we can send them a tax receipt fr their dnatin. What abut fresh fd like leftvers frm a lunchen r hmemade fd items? Unfrtunately this type f fd cannt be dnated due t ur strict fd safety standards. Can I just leave my dnatins utside yur building at any time? N. Please d nt leave dnatins utside. Stp in at ur receptin desk and make sure yur dnatins make it inside the building. Will Beverly Btstraps pick up my dnatins? If yu need assistance with delivering a dnatin, please us at inf@beverlybtstraps.rg. Will I receive an acknwledgement f my cntributin? Yes! Please cmplete the dnatin frm included in this kit and be sure t bring it in with yur cllectins. We will then send yu an acknwledgement letter.

4 Fd Drive Themes T cllect a specific item yu can have theme days such as: Macarni (Pasta) Mnday Tuna Tuesday Whle Grain Wednesday Peanut Butter Thursday Fruity Friday T engage children, yu can d a kid fr kid campaign. T d this, yu culd have kids dnate items they typically like, such as: Granla r Cereal Bars Applesauce Cups Cereal Macarni and Cheese Pasta Sauce Peanut Butter Sme ther fun themes might be: Breakfast f Champins: Cereal, bread, canned fruit, granla r cereal bars, atmeal, pancake mix and syrup. Time fr Dinner: Pasta, pasta sauce, canned beans, rice, tuna, canned fruit and vegetables and canned sup. Snack Time: Animal crackers, pretzels, applesauce r ther healthy nn-perishable snack items. Fill the Bag: Give all participants a bag and ask them t fill the bag with nn-perishable fd items. Super Bwl: Have a fd drive arund the Super Bwl and cllect sups, stews and meals in a can. Be a Neighbr - Feed a Neighbr: Gather yur neighbrs tgether and cllect fd t dnate t ur fd pantry t help thers in ur cmmunity. Management Weigh In : Weigh yur management team and use that as yur gal fr punds cllected.
