Handlebars: The handlebars prvide steering cntrl f the machine and shuld be grasped with the hands at the lcatin f the fam grips. Thrttle lever: The thrttle lever is lcated at the end f the right hand side f the handlebars. Squeezing the thrttle lever increases the speed f the engine. Releasing the thrttle lever allws the engine t return t idle speed. When the transmissin is engaged in any psitin ther than neutral, squeezing the thrttle will cause the machine t mve relative t the gear that has been selected. The mre the lever is squeezed, the greater the speed f the machine. Brake pedal: The brake pedal is lcated in the middle f the peratr platfrm. Depressing the brake pedal engages the band brakes n the rear wheels and slws the mtin f the machine. Spray cntrl lever: The spray cntrl lever is lcated near the left side f the handlebars and cntrls the flw f liquid frm the tank t the spray nzzles. When the lever is in the vertical psitin, the valve is clsed. When the lever is in the hrizntal psitin (the lever can be either pushed frward r pulled backward), the valve is pen. Gate lever: The gate lever is lcated n the left side f the cnsle and cntrls the pening at the bttm f the hpper. Pushing frward n the gate lever causes the gate t clse s that n granular prduct will flw ut f the bttm f the hpper. Pulling backward n the gate lever causes the gate t pen s that granular prduct will flw. Engine ignitin switch: The engine ignitin switch is lcated n the left side f the cnsle and cntrls the ignitin circuit f the engine. The engine will nly start and run when the switch is in the ON psitin. The engine will nt start r will shut dwn if the switch is in the OFF psitin. Spray cntrl knb: The spray cntrl knb is lcated n the right side f the cnsle and cntrls which nzzle the liquid in the spray system is directed twards. When the knb is psitined in the wide spray psitin, liquid is directed tward the bradcast nzzle. This nzzle will create a maximum spray width f 11. When the knb is psitined in the narrw spray psitin, liquid is directed tward the trim nzzle. This nzzle will create a maximum spray width f 3. Spread cntrl lever: The spread cntrl lever is lcated n the right side f the cnsle and cntrls the center f the granular spread. The lever cntrls the psitin f a baffle lcated belw the gate f the hpper. As this baffle is mved relative t the gate pening, the center f the dispensed material changes. T perate, the lever is first unlcked by rtating cunterclckwise. The handle can then be mved up and dwn t change the psitin f the baffle. Once the crrect psitin is fund, the handle is rtated clckwise t lck the lever in place. Gate stp: The gate stp cntrls the maximum pening f the hpper gate and is lcated n the frnt f the hpper. The knb is rtated ne directin r the ther until the desired maximum gate pening is btained. 3.2 PRE-START Fill the fuel tank. Fr best results use nly fresh, clean regular grade unleaded gasline with an ctane rating f 87 r higher. D nt add il t the gasline. 8

D nt verfill the fuel tank. Never fill the fuel tank s that the fuel level rises abve a level that is ½ belw the bttm f the filler neck. This will allw fr fuel expansin and will help t prevent fuel spillage. Understand the cntrls, their lcatins, their functins, and their safety requirements. Refer t Maintenance, Sectin 5, and perfrm all the necessary inspectin and maintenance steps. 3.3 STARTING THE MACHINE Psitin the machine n a flat and level surface. Ensure that the transmissin is in the neutral (N) psitin and that the engine ignitin switch is in the ON psitin. Open the fuel shut-ff valves lcated n the engine and belw the fuel tank. If the engine is cld, activate the chke lever lcated n the engine. If the engine is warm, it may nt be necessary t activate the chke lever. Firmly grasp the handle f the start crd and pull the handle tward the rear f the machine. D nt squeeze the thrttle lever when starting the machine. Once the engine has started, gradually deactivate the chke lever. Carefully step nt the peratr platfrm. Mve the transmissin lever t the desired lcatin. Slwly squeeze the thrttle lever t start the machine mving. 3.4 SHUTTING DOWN THE MACHINE Psitin the machine n a flat and level surface. Cmpletely release the thrttle lever. Mve the transmissin lever t the neutral (N) psitin. Mve the engine ignitin switch t the OFF psitin. 3.5 TRANSPORTING THE MACHINE Use a heavy-duty trailer r hitch-munted rack t transprt the machine. Securely fasten the machine t the trailer r rack with straps, chains, cable, r rpes. Make sure that the trailer r rack has all f the necessary lighting and markings that are required by law. If using a trailer, make sure that the safety chains are secured. Use extreme cautin when lading the machine n a trailer r rack. The ramps shuld be lng enugh s that the angle between the ramp and the grund des nt exceed 15. A steeper angle may cause the machine t lse tractin and slide ut f cntrl. Always lad the machine with the machine driving frward. Only use first gear (1) when lading the machine. Keep the machine in gear nce it has been prperly laded and shut ff. This will help t minimize mvement f the machine n the trailer r rack during transprtatin. 3.6 OPERATING THE SPREADER The spreader has a pattern width f apprximately 14 feet. By using passes with an apprximate 7 ft width, the granular prduct will be evenly distributed with the prper amunt f verlap. Nte that the sprayer als requires passes with an apprximate 7 ft width. Sprayer peratin details are nted in the next sectin. Adjust the gate stp t the desired setting. Cmpletely clse the hpper gate and add fertilizer t the hpper. Install the hpper shwer cap if necessary. Carefully step nt the peratr platfrm. Place the gear selectr in secnd gear (2). 9

Squeeze the thrttle lever t start the machine rlling frward. Slide the gate lever t the OPEN psitin. T stp the spreading peratin, slide the gate lever t the CLOSED psitin, release the thrttle lever, and depress the brake pedal. 3.7 OPERATING THE SPRAYER The sprayer has a pattern width f apprximately 11 feet with the bradcast tip. The effective pattern width is apprximately 7 feet wide which allws the same pass width as the spreader. Fr this reasn, the spreader and spraying systems may be perated at the same time. Add the required materials t the spray tank. Nte the directin f the wind and plan an applicatin path that allws the spraying t ccur dwnwind. Avid spraying in windy cnditins as the spray may carry t nn-target areas. Carefully step nt the peratr platfrm. Rtate the spray width knb t the desired setting. Place the gear selectr in secnd gear (2). Squeeze the thrttle lever t start the machine rlling frward. Activate the spray cntrl lever (hrizntal psitin). T stp the spraying peratin, deactivate the spray cntrl lever (vertical psitin), release the thrttle lever, and depress the brake pedal. 4. CALIBRATION 4.1 SPREADER FLOW RATE CALIBRATION The fllwing instructins prvide a methd fr adjusting the flw f fertilizer frm the hpper s that the crrect amunt f fertilizer is applied t a 1000 ft 2 area. The machine is designed t apply fertilizer evenly by verlapping each pass by 50 percent. The spread width fr mst prducts is apprximately 14 feet. This means that the center f each pass shuld be apprximately 7 feet frm the center f the previus pass. The effective material spread width is 7 feet and is the basis fr calibratin. Measure a distance f 143 feet n a flat paved surface. Using a paved surface will allw the fertilizer t be recllected and will prevent burning the turf if the applicatin rate is largely different frm what is intended. Traveling 143 feet with the machine equates t cvering apprximately 1000 ft 2 with fertilizer (7 ft x 143 ft = 1001 ft 2 ). Set the gate stp t a setting f 5. This will be used as the starting setting fr dialing in the crrect gate stp setting fr the particular material that is being used. Nte that the spreader will have t be recalibrated fr each different type f material that is spread. Make sure t recrd the final gate stp setting nce the crrect applicatin rate has been achieved. Place the spreader gate lever in the CLOSED psitin. Place enugh material in the hpper t cver 1000 ft 2. Begin the spreading peratin while mving tward the 143 ft marker. With the machine mving at full speed, the hpper shuld just empty ut as the machine passes the marker. If the hpper empties befre the marker is reached, turn the gate stp dial t a slightly lwer setting and repeat the prcess. If the hpper empties after the marker is reached, turn the gate stp dial t a slightly higher setting and repeat the prcess. Cntinue this prcess until the prper dispensing rate is achieved. 10

When the calibratin is cmplete, cllect the fertilizer that has been dispensed fr reuse. Never leave the fertilizer n the pavement where it can wash away in runff. 4.2 CENTERING THE SPREAD PATTERN The fllwing instructins prvide a methd fr adjusting the center f the spread pattern s that fertilizer is evenly distributed ver the width f the spread area. Obtain the fllwing items: Eleven cllectin pans, 3 t 4 inches tall and 12 inches square (e.g. aluminum rasting pans). Clear tube, ½ internal diameter, 4 inches tall. Use a permanent marker t mark the tube at ¼ increments all f the way up the tube. This will act as a measuring device fr the cllected fertilizer prills. A ruler r tape measure. A methd f recrding the cllectin amunts. Set the gate stp t a setting f 5. Mve the gate lever t the OPEN psitin (the hpper must initially be empty). Turn the spread cntrl lever cunterclckwise t release the lck and mve the lever in r ut s that the baffle can be seen centered just belw the pening f the gate in the bttm f the hpper. Turn the spread cntrl lever clckwise t lck int psitin. Mve the gate lever t the CLOSED psitin. Lad the hpper with the fertilizer t be used fr calibratin. Place the eleven cllectin pans n a flat paved surface in a straight line n tw-ft centers. Using a paved surface will allw the fertilizer t be recllected and will prevent burning the turf if the applicatin pattern is largely different frm what is intended. Make at least three passes traveling directly ver the center pan in a path perpendicular t the rw f pans. NOTE: All f the passes must be made in the same directin. Pur the cntents f the first pan n the left int the graduated tube and recrd the amunt f material that is in the tube. Repeat this measurement fr each f the eleven cllectin pans. Add tgether all f the eleven numbers t find the ttal material that was dispensed. Divide the amunt caught in each pan by the ttal amunt. This is the percentage that was caught in each pan. The distributin shuld increase twards the center pan and decrease tward the utside pans. The distributin shuld als be apprximately the same n each side. If it appears that the left side is receiving mre material, pull the spread cntrl lever ut slightly and repeat the prcess. If it appears that the right side is receiving mre material, push the spread cntrl lever in slightly and repeat the prcess. Only slight adjustments are needed t make spread pattern changes. Once the crrect distributin is achieved, measure the distance frm the cnsle surface t the tp f the spread cntrl lever. Recrd this measurement as the setting t be used fr the particular fertilizer being evaluated. Nte that the spreader will have t be recalibrated fr each different type f material that is spread. When the calibratin is cmplete, cllect the fertilizer that has been dispensed fr reuse. Never leave the fertilizer n the pavement where it can wash away in runff. 11

4.3 CALIBRATING THE SPRAY FLOW RATE The fllwing instructins prvide a methd fr adjusting the amunt f flw being dispensed frm the spray nzzles. Fill the spray tank with water. Place a cntainer in a psitin near the spray nzzles s that all f the spray being dispensed by the nzzles can be captured in the cntainer. Mve the spray cntrl knb t the desired spray width setting. The spray will flw thrugh the bradcast tip (TF-VS5) n the wide spray setting. The spray will flw thrugh the trim tip (TT11004VP) n the narrw spray setting. Place the machine in neutral (N), squeeze the thrttle lever t run the engine at full thrttle, and adjust the pressure relief valve s that the reading n the pressure gauge is 25 psi. Mve the spray cntrl lever t ON (hrizntal psitin). Operate the spray system in the ON psitin fr exactly ne minute. Measure the cllected water. The amunt cllected fr each tip shuld apprximately be as fllws: Bradcast tip (TF-VS5) = 100 unces ± 10 unces Trim tip (TT11004VP) = 40 unces ± 4 unces If the utput frm the nzzles is slightly different frm the values listed abve, adjust the pressure relief valve slightly. Unscrewing the valve knb will decrease the system pressure and will decrease the utput frm the tips. Screwing the valve knb in will increase the system pressure and will increase the utput frm the tips. If the utput frm the nzzles is drastically different frm the values listed abve, there may be ther prblems with the system. Refer t sectin 6, FAULT ISOLATION. 5.
