Thanks to those who assisted with the sausage sizzle for our sponsor Supercheap for the launch of their catalogue. Whilst it was great support for our major sponsor it did add to our Treasurers coffers. The National Day of Motoring was another great day with about 40 cars assembling at the Nightcliff Pool car park and then going for an enjoyable cruise to Fishermans Wharf. These events are great to get the cross cultural mix of the many different clubs and their members vehicles. Club Members also participated in the All Holden Day at Supercheap on the 26 th. A new car not seen before at events was the beautiful recently restored HT Premier of Dallas Campbell which took out the top prize. Whilst this event was happening in Darwin I was conducting the Shannons Motoring Extravaganza in Alice Springs with 243 excellent examples of motoring on display. A bigger thank you to those members who are/will be putting in the time to set up the display and be on site all weekend to protect the members lovely assets as well as answering questions about the club from members of the public. Do not forget all you lovers of Vintage, Veteran and Classic cars, the All Ford Day at Robbie Robbins Reserve on the 23 rd June. There will be over 100 beautiful Fords on display and yes you die hard Holden tragics, there is such a thing as some nice Fords. Our next club event is 14 th July where we make the annual pilgrimage to Batchelor to compete against the Motor Vehicle Enthusiasts Club for the Shannons Perpetual trophy. More to come on this very soon. Happy Motoring John Palamountain Membership renewals As per the Clubs Constitution all memberships become due on the 1 st of July each year. All members are given a one month s grace period where renewals are $ From the 1 st of August all members that have not renewed will become un-financial and on rejoining will be required to pay the $30.00 membership application fee. Thanks to George Shepherd, Ian Campbell, John Obolevics, Larrie Deans, Rex Hales and myself for turning up today to do the maintenance on the club marquee. It is very true that many hands make light work and whilst we all concentrated on separate tasks the job was completed in no time with the Club trailer is now in position on site for the V8 Supercars display next weekend. Thank you to those members who have volunteered their cars to make our display once again a spectacle of the V8 Supercars. All members either renewing or applying for new membership are required to fill out and sign an application form. A renewal form, valid for one month will be sent to members. This form needs to be signed and updated with any changes noted; this is a requirement of the Department of Justice legislation. Membership for the 2013/2014 financial year can be paid anytime before the 31 st of July. Any member wishing to vote on matters at the AGM or wish to stand for a committee position are required to be financial members of the club. CHCC News June

All The Goss The Winners are: Peter Skehan and Darren McMaster, drawn from a hat they have both won weekend passes to the Hidden Valley V8 Supercars. Proudly donated by Shannons Insurance. Toy Run; The club intends to hold a toy run at he end of the year, donations of toys will be presented to the Royal Darwin Hospital. We are approaching a number of local sports and social clubs to support the event by advertising it to their members for donations of toys to be collected, visiting the clubs supporting the event (club crawl), and finishing at a venue to present the donations and have a BBQ. Watch this space for further developments throughout the year. Tim Miller, Managing Director at Holden Heaven will be joining Variety Bash Car 888, a 1976 Holden Statesman Deville on its journey from Echuca VIC to Broome WA via 5,000km of dirt roads to raise money for Variety the children s charity. His aim is to raise $10,000 for Variety, via the first truly national fundraising effort on behalf of all of the Holden Car Clubs of Australia. If he raised $1 for every member of every Holden club it would amount to over $10,000. CHCC will come to the party and donate $1 for every member we currently have. Members are encouraged to donate if they can. Honey I bought a Moke MVEC Katherine member Heath Vincent posted a Mini Moke for sale on facebook, it lasted about 20 seconds before I bought it. It will be a full restoration and will be a car for my partner Mary-Louise, in fact it s a joint project and she has temporary rights to the shed. Borrowed a mates car trailer and went down to Katherine with Steve Moller and Brian Nice to pick it up. On the way down I picked up another mates wrecked VP Commodore ute in Adelaide River and dropped it off in Katherine, done the deal with Heath and got the little beauty home safe and sound, cost $250 in fuel, the HZ chews the juice with a bit of load behind her. Chris Surin has got some Show to his Go with the Torrie getting a new lick of paint. For those of you who have seen this car on he trip or idling at a Cruise nite will know that this Torana is no slouch. Not that it wasn t before but it is now a little more pleasing to the eye with the help of his mate Mick. CHCC News June

PowerCruise The PowerCruise is yet another highlight event on the motoring enthusiast calendar and is much anticipated with many people coming from QLD, SA and WA to attend. It is an opportunity for members to drive their cars a little more enthusiastically than what is allowed on the street. With around 180 cars in attendance it looks like this event is here to stay in Darwin in the years ahead. Having said that this is not really a spectators event, sure it great to see Darwin's Hottest cars strutting their stuff but nothing beats getting out there in your own wheels. Perhaps one consolation in coming as a spectator is that for an additional gold coin donation, you can get out there as a passenger and many CHCC member took advantage of that... John Pratt's 2010 VE supercharged Walkinshaw is an absolute stunner, a one and only with all the paraphernalia to back it up it was amazing to see it go through its paces over the weekend. I told him it was great to see such a rare machine out there as most would just park it up in a shed like a trophy to keep the K's down. He responded that cars are meant to be enjoyed and as it's a one off, there's no one out there that's going to have one with lower mileage. "Pratty" took me for a spin in his car and it has all the luxury to go with that performance... I dropped the trailer off on the Friday to ensure members had a good spot and early Saturday after entry and scrutineering a few members and other helpful strangers came to erect the club marquee that provided shade for us all over the weekend. The club had drinks on ice and sausage sizzles on the go to keep everyone fed and sated. It was touch and go for a while but Chris Todd has managed to get his Big block HQ coupe to the track. After getting the 454 Chevy into the engine bay on the Thursday night he discovered a leaking rear main seal and spent all day Friday to the task. He spent the weekend just cruising in the beast to run it in in style.. CHCC News June

Phil Kerr ticked off a couple of things on his bucket list with the completion and registration of his LS1 powered FJ ute. Phil has had this ute for over 18 years and it's the first time he has been able to drive it with modifications to suit his needs. With all the mod con's of an Auto, 4 wheel disc brakes, power steering and a worked LS1 this car is simple and easy to drive but let me tell you, plant your foot and hang on...it absolutely flys. The FJ spent most of it's time on the track doing it's thing and held it's own in the off street racing. Tracy Papworth Poe, partner Aaron Reynolds and a mate of mine Sandro Tomasi kept the Hot Rod enthusiasts happy cruising the weekend away in their rods giving a welcome respite from the sea of 'moderns'. For me the weekend was a blast and the HZ got a hammering all weekend, I lost most of my 'races' but it's good to see 40 year old technology keeping it's own in this modern age of under bonnet superchargers and twin turbo'd V8's. The week prior to the event I was trying top sort out some electrical gremlins. I had disconnected my stereo and swapped batteries and such and it wasn't until the Monday after that I discovered that while the alternator was on it's way out, it just couldn't handle a weekend of 6000rpm fun. Many thanks to Chris Tinning at A&C Auto elec and Mike Brideson at Battery Specialists sorted me out in no time. Although I had fun in my own car and in quite a few others, the highlights of the weekend for me would be a ride in the "Beat the Heat" Commodore and chance to drive Phil Kerr's FJ ute. Phil's car has all the mod cons but you still know you are driving a Humpy, albeit a very fast one that GMH designers wouldn't have ever imagined. I was living the Holden dream... In between so many things Troy David gets into, he managed to bring out his latest creation. This Commodore ute based drag car is an engineering masterpiece and the level of detail is amazing. There's still some more tuning to do but he was rewarded the precious trophy for "Top Powerskid". This car is for sale if you are interested. The Wagland family recently added a new beast to the stable in the form of an immaculate 2005 CV8 Monaro. After some initial trepidation Karen Wagland spent the weekend hammering the car to great delight, I think she is hooked. It was a great family weekend for them Damon, Mitch and Hayley getting involved as well. Damon's ute is a stunning performer making mince meat of the moderns throughout the weekend, but not with out its problems. The car was suffering a regurgitating cooling system that Aaron Reynolds used as a great practical joke on the Sunday, I'll let them tell the story... Aaron and Jared had a great weekend as well both entered as spectators and spent the weekend cruising in other peoples cars, Aaron had also entered his LJ Torana in the show and shine and come away with a Supercheap voucher and trophy for "Top Paint". Let me tell you that is nothing to sneeze at with the quality of cars in the line up. It was great to see the many different factions of the car community getting behind this event. Hot Rodders, Drifters, Modern Muscle on old skool cool uniting, if we didn't stand together we wouldn't have an event. I encourage more members to get involved next year, either as a participant or a passenger. Many thanks to Gup and his team who put this thing together and we will be back next year. CHCC News June

Supercheap All Holden Day Another weekend another show, this time supported by Supercheap at their Pinelands store. The "All Holden Day" saw 33 cars rock up to strut their stuff. Competition for the best car is hotting up within the club as new members bring their cars out and newly restored ones return to the road. Prize winners for the day were;- Best Original..Harry Mellios with his Monaro. Best Modified..Trevor Tschirpig and his FJ ute, Best Unmolested..Brian Nice and his Commondore Vacationer, Best Paint.. Wondeful Wilko and his HZ Monaro and Best in Show went to Dallas Campbell and his well restored HT Premier. (pictured below in the long shorts and the funky hat) I arrived late and only just found a parking spot, kindly reserved by Wilko. It was an opportunity to also (for some) to sit back and just enjoy the show as we had arranged for a chuck wagon to be on site alleviating the hassle of a tent erection and bbq, this went down well and may happen again. Thanks goes out to all those who attended, pity we couldnt see the same turn up at other events, maybe we need to put dollar signs up toentice people to come along. Thanks to Supercheap for donation of prizes especially the top 2 being $250 gift cards. Grumpy as always. CHCC News June
