The great weather following the recent wet spell was a great treat to the many members who participated in the Litchfield Pub Run. I am sorry I missed a very successful day due to a family commitment. There is a lot coming up with the approaching hospitable dry season with no fewer than 7 events in the next 7 weeks including the cruises. For those that comment there is never anything on now here it is so it is up to you to support these events. Of course, although the planning is done, Indians are still needed to help out with the running of these events. Give Steve our functions coordinator a call to assist as he has far too much on his plate and would really like a little support. From the Editor We are into the swing of things, kicking off with a nice and relaxed cruise to the Darwin River Dam and all the glitz of the Ute Run revisited. Coming up next are the car shows, the All Holden Day (see what s happening), Shannons Motoring Extravaganza and our club display at the V8 Supercars. For those Who think their car is not worthy of display, please remember that The Classic Holden is unique and the crowds appreciate them all the same. So come on in and get involved!!! I have had a little feed back from the show us your shed tour, I currently have three sheds lined up but need some more to make it worth while. Once we have the numbers I envisage the tour towards the end of the year as we have got a lot on the calendar at the moment. See you at the next event. 3 All the Goss The Cruise nites have still been going strong over the wet season and will surely get back to their former strength when the dry kicks in. Member Tracy Papworth Pope with her gorgeous V8 powered UC Torana is pretty handy with a camera and posted a number of great shots on the clubs facebook page. Volunteers required The club is after volunteers for the BBQ roster at the All Holden day next week, NMHD, and the Shannons Extravaganza. If you could spare a couple of hours it would be greatly appreciated. Please send an to info@classicholdencaclubnt.com with your preferred times and we will send you the rosters as they are made up. Jason Saddler has just come back from a trip of a lifetime. The lucky bugger won the Shannons Prancing Horse 'Overnight Escape' packages for two. The package included the opportunity to drive a collection of different Ferraris over two days, day-spa massage treatments, fine dining and an overnight stay at a four-star boutique on the NSW south coast. He says he had an absolute blast Larrie Dean has a soft spot for the HQ Statesman and found one in Brisbane a couple of months ago. He and Karen went off to pick it up and discovered that it was just as it was advertised, a beautifully straight 308 De-ville in pristine condition. They drove the car back without a hitch, well that is until they were pulled over a couple of times by the local law enforcement officers, each time it was just to admire a car that looked like it just came out of a time warp. A cop magnet for all the right reasons. In mid March I dropped into Phil Kerr s for some brake lines for my Bobber (motorcycle) project and found three Humpies sitting in a row. Talk about a flash back to the 60 s. Phil s was still in the rebuild, Bruce Walls was in for a rego check and David Clark was borrowing the hoist for some repairs. David knows his Humpy like the back of his hand, having done the most of the build himself. With the engine out of the car at 2pm I saw him driving the car down Bagot rd at 4pm. I know some of you were dreaming of owning Elise Prince s Torana when it was advertised in the last newsletter and I am pleased to announce that the car has remained in the club. Aaron Hall is now the proud owner of this pristine restored example of Aussie motoring and he had his maiden voyage at the Darwin River run. CHCC News April

4 Darwin River Run Despite the dismal wet season we had a monsoonal trough that saw a lot of rain flood the causeway at the Dam and as such the decision was made to alter the Darwin River run to just encompass lunch at the Litchfield pub. This decision was based on NT Governments road reports, in fact a few days previously a 4WD had swept off the causeway. Based on Phil s report several of us thought, the dam s only 10 minutes down the road, let s check it out. It was in great territory style to see the recovery effort for the 4WD that got swept over the causeway a few days previously (by the looks of it, it took around a carton of Goldies to get it out). With a perfect sunny day about fifteen classics and quite a few moderns rocked up at United Coolalinga and we went for a cruise to the pub for a sensational lunch. The Litchfield pub is a great place for lunch, cold beer in a great setting, with huge slab tables and a crocodile enclosure to keep the kids enthralled. For many members it was the first time they had seen the dam, for me it was the first time I had seen water over the spillway, it was an impressive sight. A great day to see the sights.. Not to be deterred Phil Springate made a quick reconnaissance to the Dam before lunch to wet a line (he actually hooked up a barra), and came back to the pub to report that the causeway was now high and dry and the road was still in excellent condition. 5 Australia Day Ute Run Revisited On a perfect Easter Saturday a convoy of around 100 cars lined up on the Hidden Valley Race circuit, ready and rearing to unleash all things Ozyute on the roads of Darwin. Yep the numbers were down but the enthusiasm was overwhelming. We had quite a few members in the crowds as well. Brent Betts one tonner back on the road again With Variety handling most of the duties, organisation and BBQ etc the call was made for us to help out on the oval. Thanks go to Trevor, Lizz, Mal and Steve for manning the push a ute Comp. Greg and Mickey for the Muffler throwing and Jeff, Peter (and myself) for the Thong throwing competitions. Your assistance was greatly appreciated and I think everyone had a great time helping out. The faithful volunteers After the procession through town the crowds gathered at the Greyhound track to partake in many of the activities on offer. With the Club cars nestled in their usual spot the call went out for volunteers to assist with those activities. Jack and Maureen Burr The club did well ate the presentations, John Obolevics scored best judged, Jack and Maureen Burr s sensational presented HQ ute pulled off best Aussie and Jim and Judith Dowling who came all the way from Tennant Creek in their gorgeous purple one tonner, scored a battery charge as they had suffered battery failure on their travels. A big hand to organisers John Obolevics and Trish Creedon for putting on such a magnificent event and next year marks the 10 th anniversary, do not miss it!!! CHCC News April
